Yes, I remember the use of glace cherries! We used to get our mum to put a cocktail stick through them and put them in our glasses of lemonade!

Anyway, 5 things for Saturday. Been feeling quite ill all day :-(

    1) Had a bit of a tidy round this morning. (Though you wouldn't know it know!)

    2) Tidied the garden, swept the leaves up and emptied the waterbutt. Have to empty it every so often otherwise it overflows! I use it to wash down the path and patio.

    3) Got my renewed driving licence. Not very exciting but I'm relieved it came.

    4) Made our comfort food tea of sausages, mashed potatoes and baked beans. Sons aren't quite well either.

    5) Went to the local bonfire and fireworks and that was lovely. Big son said how much he had enjoyed it and thanked me for taking him and he doesn't usually come out with meaningful stuff like that!

and 6) Planning other stuff to do in half term. We might go to Aberdfyi on the train, its our nearest seaside and we do love it there.

  • What a great thread! :D

I've been thinking a lot lately about life and where i am/want to be etc and i've come to the conclusion that somewhere along the line i've lost my way and strayed from myself iykwim. I used to be a regular on this board but gradually life took over and i stopped posting, still lurking but not being an active member. I feel worse for it as this board was a lifeline for me at one point and one of the few places i feel i fitted in.

Also i've gotten sucked into the 'i want it now' culture, spending money on things just because i want to but its not making me any happier. I think this is because i've allowed others to influence me and i've tried to 'fit in' instead of being myself and being proud of it. Basically i'm not happy with the person i have become, i buy too many clothes, spend money unecessarily and seem to appreciate things less and want more :o:(

So a really long winded way of saying that i think this is the place for me to begin to get myself back, by appreciating the little things in life and being more grateful and being proud to be myself and not trying to be what i think i should be.

Hoping to get to know you all :)

ps. i realise i sound like a spoilt brat, i'm not really i just feel like i've lost some of the good qualities and respect for money that i used to have :o

We have three bunnies on here! - sorry kitchenb, hadn't spotted you earlier.
Wasn't it nice to go out and find it so mild today?
Hope all bunnies have silflayed to good purpose and happily this evening -that word has stuck with me since first reading WD. It's perfect.

1.Over 70 pieces of fabric ironed, filmed, folded, measured and pics just uploaded and ready to roll out on turbolister...and there are another 4>5 large trunks full. This was only 3 carrier bags.
2.Learning that Ollie's time away from here will not be the horizonless yonder I'd misunderstood.
3.Whole trolley load of bubble placky from Mr T's fruit and veg. area today. Older chap there became super enthusiastic on my behalf - it was kind of him, but obviously it's good for Mr T, too. I take it in for our Charity for wrapping.
    4. Feeling snug wearing my new ebay lambswool crocheted mules/slippers[John Lewis new £25,my lucky bid £1.04]while hearing the wind rising outside.
    5. Watching Strictly while measuring said fabric, thus feeling self-indulgent and productive simultaneously.
    6. Moto GP to look forward to in early morn...a.n.other's introduction, but I am so taken by Charlie Cox's turn of phrase and commentary and want Rossi to win again. Had been vaguely aware in my eclectic garbage bin mind, of him as an intriguing, interesting, extraordinary talent, even to someone like me, whose experience of things 'moto' begins and ends in 1952. Nearly Christmas. Foxton beach, NZ. Our big one-room asbestos:rolleyes: bach. The rooster/dinner has died en route. My Uncle, Dad and Poppa ride their Army Motorbikes there. We ladies take the train from Wellington. Males sleep out in the Army tents while working more on the bach. Come Chrimbo morning, they and tent are 'gone'...the sand has blown in the night and drifted over them entirely. Beloved Lally/Uncle takes me down to the beach and on his Army bike we motor......YEEEEEEEEESSSS! And fall off between the dunes...I'm there again now.
    So I'll watch gladly tomorrow.
Oh yes, I come down with measles or chicken pox or one such...it was regular as clockwork for me at Chrimbo and I thought for some years such coincidental timing was why there were presents, especially as my b'day is not long after.
    ######
    Sorry, have rambled on again.
    Soft hugs partout.

Grauniad, hottie, and 'summy weet'* soon. *coined by a long ago small person, from whom also came 'I want mine own different same', when being diverted from wrestling 'crips' from big sister.

A probable 'nother - think I'll redeem some Mr T vouchers for a few rugby matches. London Irish and Saracens are both in Deals and I could make a case for following both.
Rather fancy the Sarries/Castres match in December...and will probably shout pour les bleus.
That's how to win friends and influence people.:D;)

Olliebeak, I hope the christening party goes ok and your kitchen manages to stay intact. Acey, I love sausage and mash, I always have mine with apple sauce! My blessings for today
    1. Being cosy indoors even though it is wet and windy outside.
    2. Bumping into an old friend and having a good natter.
    3. Dried fruit soaking in brandy overnight ready to make my Christmas cake tomorrow. Smells fab.
    4. An extra hour in bed!
    5. A glass of Baileys and a good read of this thread.
    Love to all. X

    My five pleasures for today:

    1. Went out to a children's sports competition but let my two get on with it on their own and I stayed in the car wrapped up warm in all the fleeces I'd remembered to take, gettting on with my work.

    2. The drive there and back was lovely: blustery and autumny with leaves blowing everwhere and rusty, golden, plummy, earthy scenery - all made much more beautiful because I could apprecitate it from the warmth of the car.

    3. DS1 managed to get hold of a free sandwich and cuppa for my lunch and brought it to me in the car park (somehow packed lunch for me had got forgotten this morning!)

    4. Listening to Weekend Woman's Hour - and other interesting bits on Radio 4 through the day,

    5. I can hear my hottie and a warm drink calling :D to me, ready to take to bed.

Look after yourself Acey. Hope anyone who's poorly feels better soon. Hope tomorrow goes really well Ollie.

    Sleep well everyone.

    Such a good post it's run into a 2nd Edn already -

    Dear lilmisskitkat -
I'm so glad I spotted your post just as I was about to duck away.
It shows loving, wise, perceptive and courageous writing and growing - and as such, it is a fine, good thing for you to have done.
What is better is that it's here for ALL of your friends here to read and for you to return to if you feel yourself faltering.
Seeing you as an early joiner - 2004 - you have Senior Princess Status and I declare this to be your coronet.

-now put it on, like a good girl, to remind yourself of who you REALLY are……always.

    {and Thomas is a soft spot name for me - my Father's - say Hello to yours from me please}
-and you're in no way a spoilt brat, although we may shower you with compliments for making yourself known here.
    You've done well.

about your nasty boss - how awful for you! That is disgusting and he certainly doesn't have the right to make you feel bad. Is he your Line Manager or your employer? Is there anybody else in work that you can talk to - you do NOT have to put up with being treated bad in work? Hope you enjoy your charity day .
Hey Olliebeak my boss is a woman and we all feel the same way! My Area Manager knows and I WILL find another, better paying job soon. Anyway:

    1. Raised over £100 for breast cancer charity thanks to kind donations from other stores in the centre. one gave me a gift basket worth £150!
    2. Resisted urge to get takeaway tonight and had pasta which i got in a massive bag from Aldi for £1.
    3. MORE washing done - towels tonight all up to date.
    4. Long chat with mum on free minutes. Always great.
    5. Lovely support on here X
