I've just managed to catch up. I still have my friend staying here as she still has her right hand out of action following her operation.
Life's been a bit hard going so I've been lying low as a) I didn't want to moan and b) I just haven't had the time.
However:-
1. Just had an hour to myself as my body clock has not yet adjusted from BST so I got up while the rest of the household slept.
2. Not remotely OS but we took friend and her friend who was visiting her to a lovely garden centre for lunch.
3. A bit more OS - finding a super skirt and jumper in garden centre both reduced to less than half price. Helped to pay for the lunch, not that I would ever had paid full price.
4. Seeing my sprouts against a backdrop of purple curly kale and frondy fennel, greeting me when I open the kitchen blind in a morning.
5. Catching up with this thread and all you lovely positive thinking people
Thankyou

Good morning, lovely people.
There are my weekend OS Pleasures...
1. Money is a little tight following the move so a Store Cupboard Challenge was initiated. Okay, I've cheated a little with a £5 raid on Sainsbury's Basics.
2. I baked a cake. Oh, yes. I baked a cake. A lemon drizzle cake too. Hubby cooed and admired.
3. Stewed some softening apples for a crumble later in the week. Hubby dutifully cooed and admired.
4. Inspired by Olliebeak, I've renamed the Economy 7 routine of baking bread, slow cooking and laundry as 'The Pixies'. So, last night the Pixies did their work while I slept.
5. 'Operation Vegetable' proceeds. Another six bags of garden waste for the nice gentlemen from the Council to collect for composting.
....just one more, and not really OS, but I watched hubby chopping wood. I cooed and admired.
Have a fantastic day.
Claire.

Hello everyone & many, many apologies for dropping off the face of the earth back in July
My internet connection (or the phone line that provides it) went down, DH had his hours cut, my MIL has been very seriously poorly (it's still a day at a time) and has required almost 24 hour care mostly provided by me & my dear SIL. It's been a horrible time all round. We are still Old Styling as much as ever and I've been glad & grateful for everything I've learned as we prune evermore off the budget.
I have thought of you all often, and missed you so much, and have tried to count blessings each day, even if I've only managed a couple some days.
On a happier note we have had a doggy addition to the family :T We are now the proud owners of a beautiful, bouncy, golden Labrador who is just 14 months old. She has settled in so well and our resident Beagle is terribly in love with her(both have been 'done' so no strange puppies will ever be born
). They play, sleep, eat & get up to mischief together most days.
My five for today, as I must start as I mean to go on, are:
1. Walking the dogs this morning.
2. Being able to spend some extra time with DH these days as he isn't at work so much.
3. Using MIL's favourite fabric softener for her washing so that it'll smell nice when she next puts it on in the hospital.
4. Getting some more of DH's Christmas present cross stitched this afternoon - a picture of John Wayne that a friend saved for me from her magazine  JW has never been my style so it's a labour of love!
5. Finally being able to get back online again and catching up with everyone.
Big hugs to everyone & I hope that you'll forgive my long absence.

Hi all,
Sunnygirl, lovely to see you back here and with news of a doggy addition to your family, too!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - 7am. Started the process of making a sourdough bread loaf, the dough is now resting (for 24 hours) in a bowl, fermenting.
2 - The lentils I put on the woodstove last night have cooked to a beautiful creamy consistency (in the end I put red, not brown, because I fancied making a dal tonight). Just need to add garlic and spices and boil rice and dinner is nearly done!
3 - Free lunch at work meeting, feeling proud of myself for not tucking into the - very tempting - array of cheeses and choc biscuits, so staying firmly vegan in the face of temptation!
4 - I got really upset at somethign that happened at the work meeting today (long story, not worth sharing really) and on my return I contacted a friend who was able to see me and hear me out, so I had an opportunity to let off steam. This meant that I could stop and reflect, rather than make a beeline to the home computer and write a strong letter of resignation (which I would have regretted). Now I can plan my exit more calmly!
5 - I have managed to write an application form for a volunteer apprentice community garden post which for the successful people might turn into a paid post. It would be GREAT.
Good night everybody, I am off to cook my rice and dal. Have a great evening xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening All
I've had quite a random day - more ups and downs than a heart monitor! Anyway it's my first time posting on this thread so lets see if i get the hang of it!
1. Finished cleaning & tidying the last cupboard in the kitchen morning - it was my 'store' cupboard so i listed all my herbs, spices and baking stuff and stuck the list on the inside of the door so i can see at a glance what i have - and don't need to rummage in there and mess it up again.... DH was laughing when he seen it and asked was any door safe? i said it wasn't only the doors that weren't safe - if he bent over i would stick a list to his butt
2. Finished this week's meal plan and stuck it to the fridge - I had left saturday blank as i didn't know what to do but DS-D seen the gap and suggested baked potatoes with cheese and beans and wrote it down.
3. I compiled our household budget ( <--DH ) and put iit on a spreadsheet ready for the November GC
4. Lunch HM Pizza (bases and the tomato sauce were both HM :T)
5. Took my old/broken gold down to the little shop along the road - hoping for maybe £ 30 to get me til payday....£275!!!! I RAN out of the shop yelling 'START THE CAR!!!!!'
:rotfl:
Happy Days!

Today's pleasures:-
1. Picking more raspberries for the garden. New canes this year of Autumn Bliss have given a really good yield.
2. Still got a few runner beans to come if the frost holds off for another couple of days.
3. Dried the towels on the line.
4. An afternoon sleep, didn't think I'd slept much but I must have done as I feel much better.
5. Cuddles with DGK's after I'd cooked tea for all the family tonight.

Here's mine for the day:
1) my tea. The jambalaya I made was so awesome.
2) Above-mentioned jambalaya giving me my packed lunch tomorrow. The leftovers keep on going!
3) Having a nice chat with the bus driver on my way home. Always good.
4) It being dark going home. It means the Christmas holiday isn't far away.
5) DH waiting inside for me when I got home with smiles and a cuddle.
