I will post mine later but just had to say Olliebeak, what a wonderful spread for the christening. Glad you had good day and I hope your daughter is ok now. It must have been very scary for you aswell! Hope the GP sorts it out. X
  • Afternoon all,

Guess who altered all the clocks except the alarm? So, got up at 7[6!], let the dogs out, had a cuppa, put leads on dogs and wasnt until i walked past the newsagents,[opens at 7 ] that the penny dropped!

    # being greeted in the morning with waggy, wriggly dogs, and a big grin from teddy, the lurcher.
    # talking to other dog walkers and their dogs doing the same circuit twice a day,
    # receiving an apology from a woman over something that happened 2 years ago, very unexpected and grateful that it is now resolved.
    # getting the washing dry outside!
    # enjoying these lovely autumn days, and the darker evenings when i can curl up on the sofa!

    take care of youself.

    Hi all

After the difficult time I had yesterday at work I decided to dedicate myself to myself and my home today and as a result I had a great day (and decided that soon I am giving up the job - so I need to start saving more NOW!).

Here are mine for the day:

1 - This morning first thing (7am) I was really excited to find the sourdough loaf very well fermented and grown. I turned it on the floured board, worked it well and let it rise for another couple of hours and I am really proud to say that my first sourdough loaf has come out really lovely!

2 - While sourdough rested I made a batch of scones with the soured milk from the dairy kefir grains, they came very good, everybody loved them but I did not taste them because they were dairy - tomorrow I shall make a batch from soya kefir.

3 - While baking bread and scones I decided to prepare the evening meal to take advantage of the oven already on so I made a veg and beans casserole and an apple crumble, plus some steamed (also in the oven) cabbage. Dinner ready by 11am - a first!

4 - Salsa dancing class with DD this afternoon (in lieu of my usual Monday aerobics, which I could not attend because of a pesky work meeting).

5 - Received the bulk food order yesterday, did the accounts and the figures tallied first time round YIPPEE!

Now I am going to put my feet up and read a bit, since dinner is all ready and done. Good night everyone!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Evening all

Hope everyone has had a good day. I was back at work today so my OS moments have been few but

1, put dinner in the slow cooker before leaving for work this morning and came home to a lovely sweet & sour chicken and made 'chinese style' egg noodles with it

2, have accepted my first job as a mystery shopper for this Sunday - i'm really excited! (yes i am that sad!)

    3. When i commented that the fridge was looking decidedly bare DH said 'that might be so..but at least we don't throw anything away anymore' He's really coming along nicely!

    4. My beautiful 3 year old daughter bargaining with me this morning that I could only go to work if I promised to make more biscuits with her when i'm off work at the weekend - bless her she must have enjoyed my long weekend off as much as i have!

    5. Coming out of work into the dusk of evening and feeling excited that Santa was coming soon! (again..yes - I am that sad! lol )

Good evening everyone & thank you for the welcomes back - I'm very touched.

Ollie What a fabulous cake & buffet & it sounds like a good day was had by all. I have suffered panic attacks in the past & they are frightening. I hope that your daughter soon gets hers sorted out. It's been an eventful year for you all.

Flaire Thank you for your kind words but do rest assured that I blow my top & moan at the most random things some days  This morning DS1 committed the 'crime' of leaving his juice cup on the newly polished mantle piece :p:o:D

I've given thought to my five for today as its had its ups & downs. MIL was very confused this afternoon (she has vascular dementia, among many other issues, which is caused by her cartaroid arteries being furred up in her neck). My DH has been down about it as he lost his brother 2 years ago this Christmas, his Father last Christmas and now his Mum is not looking good. I can only pray for what will be, will be.

Sorry to sound moany or down I don't mean to. My five for today are:

    1. MIL actually made us giggle when we arrived and she told us that SIL was in big trouble as she'd been in court today & still had to confess why  She works in a magistrates court actually .........

    2. One of the cats jumped on the bed and padded around in an effort to wake me up this morning. It was actually a nice, gentle wake up call.

    3. Celery & potato soup for lunch made with 2 week old celery & a couple of potatoes - very tasty.

    4. I spent half an hour washing down the woodwork in the living room so it's gleaming now.

    5. DS2 has just ran me a lovely bath which I'll get in soon.

Special thoughts of you all as we all spend our evenings counting our blessings.

    5 for today:

    1) Have been feeling really down recently so my sister whisked me off to the forest nearby where we did the "Buzzard Walk" as fast as we could! (1hr30).

    2) Had a new Homehub as mine hasn't been wireless for months and got the laptop and the Wii working wirelessly!

    3) Got some old home winemaking bottles that my sister had found in the bottom of her wardrobe (?) so I can make some more sloe gin.

    4) Went to my brother's and he gave bigger son a trumpet lesson. Smaller son and I went up the wood to talk to my brother's pigs and they were ridiculously over excited because smaller son had some Minstrels in his pocked :-D

    5) Got on top of the housework this evening. The power was off all night and up to 1pm so the storage heaters didn't come on, no washing machine etc today. But since tea I have done a load of washing, all the washing up (no hot water until the power came back on), cleaned the loo, the kitchen, the stairs and the kitchen floor!

So all neat, tidy and organised and ready for tomorrow. My smaller son's speech and language therapist is coming out here to see him so I'm glad its looking half decent. Not much happening after that until the boys have gymnastics just before tea.

Bunny too - sweet chesnuts (not to be confused with horse chestnuts which are conkers) - you can roast them then peel them or boil them (then peel them) and just eat them as they are or freeze them for us in various recipes or in stuffing.

Ollie beak - sorry to hear about your daughter, I had years of panic attacks and they're horrible. I tried a few sorts of medication before settling on one - unfortunately they all seem to take at least 4-6 weeks to work which is awful when you are really relying on them and waiting for them to kick in! Hope she feels better soon.

  • 1) And it's a big one - DD is back home after a trip to see her bf at Uni. Am always relieved to have all my chicks back in place under our roof
    2) The car wouldn't start yesterday evening, so I prayed for it (I think you're allowed) and it was fine today. We don't need a big bill just now, thank you
    3) Pasta sauce in the slow cooker so a quick tea this evening.
    4) Lit the stove earlier, using free kindling given to us by our joiner friend, and it has kept the room lovely and warm. We're all in here together.
    5) DS and DD to their Grandparents tomorrow - DS to play golf and DD is going shopping for a birthday present.

Ev'ning all  - another fairly mild day again today :). Needed the fleecey blanket around 7.30 tonight for about an hour, but feeling ok again now.

Thank you all for your kind words regarding DD - it IS worrying for us, especially as she has moved further away - 4 miles instead of half a mile. Fortunately, dgs1 is due to start his new school on Monday, so maybe things will improve a little once he's out all day and she only has dgd2 to deal with during the daytime.

I'd love to take the credit for the beautiful christening cake - but definitely NOT my handiwork. My baking is quite good but nowhere near that standard ;). But DS2 and I were very proud of that buffet table :j.

Broomstick - well done on getting the washing done and dried in the sunshine :).
alisong - sounds like you and your family are enjoying the half-term break :). Don't worry about not posting every day - life needs to get in the way sometimes ;).
bunnytoo - hope you managed to run past the shops en route for the library :rotfl:.
flaire - well done to the Economy 7 pixies ;). Don't worry about feeding extra people at Christmas - I'm sure they're coming for your company as much as anything else - not just a feed :). Try to relax, enjoy your visitors and the day .
Louba - great news on OH car sharing for work . Good luck on the presentation for work.
angeltreats - welcome to the thread :). Well done :T on your sock knitting and apple-pie baking .
    billy858 - thanks for that :).
grandmasam - aww what a morning for you. loving the sound of 'teddy the lurcher' - real 'lollopy' dogs they are . Good news on the apology too :).
Caterina - sorry to hear that work has got so bad that you're ready to leave - such a shame. Well done on the sourdough bread :).
jc2703 - well done on the mystery shopping - don't forget the raincoat, dark glasses and trilby ;). I've done a couple but never seem to open the emails on time to get any these days.
SunnyGirl - I do hope that all goes well for you MIL - it must be a really worrying time for your OH, but it's good that she can still give you all a laugh occasionally ;). Maintaining a sense of humour is very difficult BUT ESSENTIAL when dealing with dementia/alzheimers.
ACEY - Wow what a full day! Lol at the pigs - fabulous creatures .
zarazara - going off for a quick peep at that thread now ;).
Patchwork -:T at 'having all your chicks under your roof' for the evening - what a lovely image that conjures up . I'm sure that God wouldn't have minded about the prayer for your car - after all it worked ;).

    1. Fell asleep on the sofa last night and woke up around 4.00am with a stiff neck - OH not best pleased :(. Not sure why he was complaining - he normally moans about me keeping him awake with snoring :o.
    2. Lovely porridge (made with water) with a light sprinkling of brown sugar on for brekkie this morning.
    3. Spoke to DD this morning and she'd had a good night's sleep BUT dgd2 was sick after we left last night - she'd had some noodles from the local chinese chippy . Definitely crossed off our list now.
    4. Busy morning in work with more c/h timers to be adjusted - happens every year and they are still surprised about the heating being out of synch after altering the clocks :rotfl:!
    5. Toasted cheese sandwich for lunch (done in one of those sandwich toaster bags from B&M) - very yummy.
    6. Jacket potato with (whoopsied) prawns in mayo for evening meal.
    7. Have taken pork chops (SmartPrice) out of the freezer for tomorrow evening's meal. Will have with mash, carrots, swede and apple sauce.
    8. Ready for an early night right now - better not get too settled on that flipping sofa again tonight :rotfl:.

Hope we all have a good night's sleep and have lots of energy for os-ing tomorrow - nitey nite all - love Ollie xxx
