    Hi all

Sparrer, many warm wishes for your DD's health.

Ollie: Thanks for your kind words re. my DD. Today we had a positive day, I dragged her along with me to an aerobics class and she enjoyed it so much that she wanted to get the centre membership (which I shall pay for until she gets a job, as it is about her health). Also, well done about organising an Over 55 work group!

    Here are my five today:

1 - DD came to aerobics with me and loved it!

2 - On our way back we stopped at an old Italian friend of mine's and she gave us some of her home-grown veg, which we then cooked with our own tomatoes and used them to dress pasta YUMMY!!! She also gave us some grapes that her late husband planted many years ago. DD commented that entering her home was like stepping through a magic wall and straight into Italy - so true!

3 - I gave a friend a pot of quince jam which I made with ornamental quinces from her garden, as she does not use them. She was really pleased.

4 - Another friend of mine came to visit this evening and is having a rest between her job (local to me) and her yoga class (also local) as she did not have time to go home in between. Good to see her!

5 - Discovered that our local pub does film nights (free!) and that on Tuesday after next they will show A Fistful of Dollars - as I saw the original version in Italy when I was 8 years old, I cannot miss it!

Have a great night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Caterina it's nice to be reading your posts again. You've been missed. Mine for today,
    1. Going for a run with DD2.
    2. Homemade parkin with a mug of coffee.
    3. Cleaned the house from top to bottom.
    4. Quiet time to sit and read my book.
    5. Candles lit, glass of wine and DH out so I'm able to read this thread without him asking "what do you find to read on there all the time?!"
    Love to all. X

    My recent pleasures:

    1. RainyWednesday has inspired me to start knitting a scarf :) Lovely pink mohair on HUGE needles, think it's going to be ginormous as I over-estimated the number of stitches I needed, but DD is asking if she will have it for Christmas, which I reckon she will!! :)
    2. Had today off to go with DD and class to the theatre, it was gorgeous
    3. Reading everyone's posts on here have cheered me up when I was feeling a bit low recently (hence my lack of posts, didn't want to be too whiney, tee hee!)
    4. Managed to buy DD a swimming float jacket on eb*y for £4.49 - already had £3 in p*ypal so it's only cost me £1.50 rather than £25 for a brand new one. Hope it arrives before we go away for half term.
    5. Just seen an advert for new Friday night line up on BB*1, woo hoo, sad but true, another reason to be glad I have no social life.....lol

    Hmmm, 5 for today.

    1) Went to my sons' harvest festival celebrations at school and my mum and dad went too.

    2) Went to see my Grandma. She is going really quite senile but I think she still feels better for having a visitor and I learned all about the pig she kept with some neighbours during the war!

    3) Had some lovely bread from the auction of produce following the harvest festival.

    4) Made a big roast dinner.

    5) Took my sons to mum and dad's so big son could have a piano lesson then they both played in the bath for almost an hour!

  • Hello all, would you mind if I join in? My 5 for today are
1.Meeting the cutest black lab puppy on my walk with the dog today.
2.Taking lunch of home made granary bread with me to meet friends for lunch (and clawing back the money I wasted on over-due library books this week buy not buying lunch!).
3.Made banana bread for the first time today to use up old bananas, hope it's good just about to try a piece for a late night snack.
4.Made a malt loaf to take as a present to my lovely friend tomorrow (most of mine seem to be about bread don't they!).
5.Watching my daughter tuck into bacon and advocada salad using lovely big chunks of bacon from bacon bits and 29p lidl advocada.
6.I'll sneak an extra one in..thanks to everyone who posted about the coal house prog, I watched that and thoroughly enjoyed it, never would have known otherwise.

    Thanks everyone, Ali.

 evening everybody - today's PAYDAY :j! omg - only another 2 before Christmas .

Louba - Hope all went well with your financial adviser :). Now don't you go getting all broody over that beautiful baby girl , or it'll be "bye-bye" to any more of those impetuous bike trips ;) - unless you could rig up some kind of sidecar/baby seat thingy :rotfl:.
DitaBombita - Hope your Bradford trip went well. Love the sound of your mushroom walk by the way :).
Caterina - Good that your DD enjoyed the aerobics class - exercise is a wonderful way to combat depression. Hope you enjoy 'Fistful of Dollars' - we used to think our dad looked a bit like Clint Eastwood in those days .
billy858 - lol at your no.5 - mine asks me why I keep bursting out laughing while I'm reading the threads :rotfl:.
Kittikins - sorry to hear you've been a bit down lately - (((hugs))) to you - I know it gets rough as a single parent. My DD has taken to phoning me every evening after the kids are in bed, which is something she never used to do. Well done on getting the swimming float jacket :T!
ACEY - your grandma sounds a lovely lady - they usually have loads of interesting stuff to tell. My ladies never cease to surprise me with their wartime stories - and some of them don't bear repeating  ;).

    Mine for today:

    1. Payday :) and I've had a phonecall to say that my new glasses are ready to be collected. Will go for them tomorrow IF I can get DS1 to give me a lift to the local shopping centre.

    2. There were only three of us at the 'over 55's group' :( - but we kicked a few ideas around and the HR woman went away with a long list of suggestions. She's also asked me if I would like to join the 'women's group' as well - me and my big mouth! So far there's 'under 25's', 'women's', 'men's', 'over 55's', 'racial minorities', 'disability' and 'lesbian, gay, bi and transgender' groups organised - all part of our 'Equality and Diversity Policy' to make sure that all minority groups are receiving equal opportunities - and the freebie lunch weren't bad either :j.

    3. Scouse for evening meal tonight (frozen about a month ago - so only needed defrosting and heating up). Just as I put it out, the front door opened and in walked dgs1 announcing that his mother had said 'Get the kettle on!' - typical. Fortunately I'd defrosted enough to have 'extras' later in the evening, so there was enough to go round us all :j.

    4. DD, dgk's and I all went to the supermarket as I needed to get my main shopping in. dgd2 couldn't keep her eyes open (awww) so they had to leave me in there to get off home. Not much choice in the whoopsies this evening BUT loads of bread at 10p per loaf . Got 4 loaves, two packs of crumpets, 4 oven bottom muffins, 4 mini torpedos, 4 tiger rolls, a granary tin loaf and a granary baguette for £1!!!!! Also got some bottles of ExtraSpecial sparkling grape juice - OH is a recovering alcoholic - to go with our Christmas Meal and a few Christmas goodies to go into 'the stash' - going to need a large lidded box to put everything in now. Shopping only came to £83.00 and the checkout girl couldn't believe how loaded my trolley was for that amount.

    5. Another 8 people have booked for our shopping trip :j - looks like a full coach at this rate :).

I'm about done for this evening - need to get to bed and get through a few pages of my book before dozing off smiley-sleep018.gif - nitey nite - love Ollie xxx

    Forgot one!

    6. My Food Waste Recycling containers have finally arrived :) - there's very little 'food waste', as such, from this house BUT what little there is really annoys me because I don't like putting 'wet stuff' in my wheelie bins.

Just got a minute to pop in with a few pleasures:-

    1. My friend comes out of hospital today after her hand surgery. Her hand may be out of action for 12 weeks, so she may be here for quite a while.

    2. My own hand which I knocked on Tuesday evening and it swelled so dramatically that I ended up in A&E, has now gone down and I am able to carry on. What a blessing, I had a few tense moments there I can tell you, as I am about to become nursemaid and right hand woman to my friend.

    3. Up a 6.30 getting the baking all done.

    4. A very good DH helping me to get through.

    5. The calm before the storm.

    Bella.
