Thank you Caterina, I'm sure everything will be fine - have to stay (outwardly) positive for the family even if we don't always feel it. I'm sure your DD will soon find her niche, better to admit now that something isn't right than to go on struggling through the uni years to please everyone else, as I did. She'll be fine :)
Kittikins good luck with the scarf - oh, I wish I had to patience to knit! I remember cosy evenings with my Grandma clicking away while listening to the radio (but how I hated those long grey school sox with garters, so itchy!) while my DGD sees me clicking away on my laptop in the evenings :D
ACEY aren't our elders amazing? Like Ollie I used to work with older people and some will always stand out in my mind. One little darling of 101 was reading a Mills and Boon book when I visited her on my daily round, I laughed 'Millie, whatever are you reading?' She looked at me with a twinkle in her eye and replied 'Well dear, I can only read about what you can still do'! :rotfl:

    My 5

    1. DGD staying for the weekend, we were talking about teachers and she said she wishes I could meet her maths tutor as we're so alike. I asked if she was an old dragon too and she said no, the best tutor in school :o Don't they make you want to cry for all the right reasons sometimes?!

    2. Shopping in Mr M and found a jar of mincemeat without brandy, beer, sherry etc etc in it. So difficult to find things that don't contain alcohol at this time of year, so it was a pleasant surprise and I bought 6 jars :D

    3. The supermarket where DD lives had really enormous chrysanths at £5.99 and 342 so got autumn coloured ones for my front patio and a bright red and yellow one for DD which she loved.:A

    4. Had my pulmonary rehab post course assessment yesterday pm, when I started I could walk 90meters before I had to rest, yesterday I walked 310meters - a 200%+ (can't work it out exactly, maths was never my forte ) improvement. I do hope for the physios' sake the course gets its funding again next year as it was amazing and obviously very worthwhile .

    5. So far I have 7 money-off vouchers for the Blackpool trip, including a 241 f'n'c at £2.99! DS is taking the Friday off (he lives 20 minutes away) to spend some time with us so it promises to be even better than we hoped.

Have a good weekend everybody, may the sun shine on you as it is on us - atm!

Back after being at work and not posting for a couple of days!

    1) Defrosting freezer so I can see whats in it and get stuff used up and not spend as much on shopping

    2) Emptied a large box from the garage that I had piled all the stuff out of my car from when I got my new one (last Nov!)

    3) Two loads of washing out on the line drying

    4) Just had a bacon and egg sandwich (only ate half) with HM bread, Basics barn egg and Netto bacon that was on BOGOF

    5) Finally managed to clear the drainage hole at the back of the fridge that has meant water kept running into the bottom of the fridge. Did it with a lobster fork! which was the perfect size and the water just drained away as if by magic :T

    Hi all

Thanks for lovely words of hope and kindness, DD seems to be ok and today she is cleaning her room with her BF - feels like she is doing something positive for herself and turning a leaf. Ah, I have dropped out of more courses than I have had hot meals (just about hehe), so I can understand her feeling. My worse worries were about her mental health, but so far she seems to be holding up well, probably it was more the fear of coming clean with us after leading us to believe (for over 2 years!) that this is what she really wanted to do... never mind, this also will pass.

Meanwhile here are my five for today:

1 - Breakfast in bed courtesy of DH

    2 - Lie-in until 11!! TOTAL LUXURY!

3 - Fabric and curtain sale at local Steiner school, found the perfect curtain to cover our door in winter, long enough and with rings already in. Fabric normally £32 per metre, really posh stuff, paid the lot (2.3m) the grand total of £15! Very chuffed indeed.

4 - Cup of tea here at the computer courtesy of DD

5 - Dinner at another friend's tonight, lovely not to have to cook again!

Have a lovely weekend everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

4/ Home in 20 minutes to steak and onions bubbling in slow cooker.
5/ Finished a good book & listed it on Read It Swap It!!

Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!
    :hello:

Feeling very tired now. Have felt a bit narked all day with the boys fighting this morning, the Ebay man not turning up or ringing AGAIN etc.

    Five for today.

    1) We broke up loads of pieces of wood for starting sticks for the stove (they're offcuts from our neighbours who have a joinery business)

    2) Went with my brother to get chestnuts. He says the chestnut trees are inter-war (he was an ecologist before becoming redundant in the credit crunch!) They are 2 metres in diameter and we both got a carrier bag of chestnuts!

    3) Went swimming for an hour. Younger son has always claimed not to be able to swim but after doing 2 lengths at the same speed as me (but wearing his arm bands) I kept letting air out. He can now swim with just a puff of air in one band with the other band left on the poolside! After swimming, dropped my brother off (he still lives at home, much younger than me) and went to see his pigs and sons had a go on the trampoline.

    4) Kids choice for tea - nice sausages from Mr S (reduced), baked beans and mashed pots with cheese on.

    5) Made some flapjacks to have whilst watching a bit of Strictly.

    L

P.S Younger son also decided to suddenly do pages and pages of Fuzzbuzz (the only thing the school have ever done really is to thrust the FuzzB scheme book at me ) He is now in the bottom bunk READING to his older brother in the bunk above!!!!! Strange how he is suddenly starting to get reading.

    Evening all,

    1. Seeing a friend today and nattering.
    2. Thanking a friend by giving them a present.
    3. Donating a couple of bags to charity so less clutter. Apparently charity shops are feeling the pinch and need donations.
    4. Getting an enormous saucepan for soup making, stews, etc.
    5. Find the OS special on itv player courtesy of someone on MSE: http://www.itv.com/ITVPlayer/Video/default.html?ViewType=5&Filter=104791[/

Evening all  - nice day here but definitely colder today. Still managing to hold out on the heating front though - for the time being ;).

bunnytoo - I like the sound of your 'Chocolate Ginger Slice' - do you have a recipe for it please :). Hope your meal went well.
sparrer - well done you on finding a 'non-alcofrolic mincemeat' :T - so hard at this time of year. I know that any alcohol is supposedly 'cooked off' but I'd rather NOT have the taste in there anyway. Great news about your pulmonary assessment - well done to you and your physios :j.
NJW69 - those water drainage holes are a darn nuisance, aren't they. One of my male tenants keeps asking me about his fridge (not my responsibility really!) and I'm forever visiting to clear the wretched thing. He DID have it plugged up with kitchen roll till I told him it was supposed to be clear. Perhaps he just likes keeping me on the hop .
Patchwork - I used an old crochet hook ;).
Caterina - (((hugs))) to your DD - she's not the first to drop out of Uni and certainly won't be the last. :T on your curtain find - should help to keep the draughts out this winter.
Infamy - omg steak and onions in the SC  - sounds absolutely delicious. What kind of steak did you use and how long did it take? I've got 2 lots of SmartPrice rump steak in my freezer - wonder if one of those would work? It IS actually very nice grilled but I love the idea of just putting it in the SC, leaving it alone all day and evening meal being ready without any further effort from me .
DitaBombita - Sounds like you enjoyed your 'mushroom walk'. :T well done on your HM jam and Apple wine.
ACEY - sorry to hear your ds's were playing you up earlier in the day - boys eh! But it sounds as though they are 'friends again' now, after their fun-filled day;).
mineallmine - Well done on getting that enormous saucepan - worth their weight in gold, those things are .
alisong - good to see you back again :) - sounds like you've had a really busy day in the garden and great bargain hunting!

    Mine for today are:

    1. Lovely lazy morning - bit of a lie-in, but not as long as Caterina's. Half past 9 !

    2. Visit from DS2 with g/f, and dgs's 2&3. Was dgs2's birthday earlier this week - he was 8 this time. Had made him a birthday cake. Chocolate cake with chocolate chips mixed in, topped with chocolate buttercream and white mini marshmallows scattered on the top. His eyes were popping out of his head. This was my effort at reproducing the 'tray baked cakes' that are on sale in Asda - so simple that I'm making another NEXT week for dgd2's birthday on Saturday in pink and white :). Dgd2 is dairy intolerant so will use 'Pure' Soya margarine for hers.

    3. Spent the afternoon prepping loads of veggies while watching Brief Encounter - has to be the most un-erotic love story ever :rotfl:. Have now got 2 lbs leeks, 3lbs carrots, 2lbs swede, 2lbs parsnips and a cauli all chopped and frozen PLUS a bag of peelings/stalks/trimmings for soup making.

    4. Found 2x2kg bags of SmartPrice onions in the bottom of the kitchen cupboard - bought more this week without realising some already in there. Will need to spend some time tomorrow with the food processor slicing/chopping them to go into freezer bags!

    5. Whoopsie curry night for evening meal - Chicken Tikka Masala for OH, Chicken Korma for me, mini samosas and Peshwari Naan Bread. Sat watching 'You've Got Mail' while eating .

    6. Phone call from DD, casually telling me that she's bought a 'bright red hair dye' and is going to put streaks/stripes in her hair. Given that her hair is almost waist length, I'm not sure how she proposed to manage this herself  - so it looks like I've volunteered myself to go and do it for her! Last time she tried to 'go blonde' but went orange instead - heaven help us tomorrow :rotfl:, fortunately all the kids are with their dad and well out of the way .

    7. Have had a 'missed phone call' from my lovely cousin in the USA, so am about to give her a call back for a chat. I'm going to put the kettle on, make a cup of coffee and settle down to hear her news .

Hope we all get a good night's sleep - nitey nite - love Ollie xxx
