Don't often post on here, but enjoy reading everyone's blessings when I find the thread! Mine for today are:

    1. My lovely god daughter and her sisters coming to stay for the night.

    2. dd2 and dd3 cleaning and clearing their bedroom voluntarily with no nagging from me!

    3. ds going off to watch footie with a mate and catching the train and becoming more independent.

    4. girls off out at the moment picking blackberries for me to fill the freezer with and to make some pies with the stewed apples that I have in there already.

    5. remembering our weekend break that we have booked for June and paying the second installment - lovely to have something to look forward to during the darker evenings, and may be the last time ds wants to come away with us, as he's planning a trip this summer with friends!

    1. Picking what will probably be the last of the climbing beans for dinner tonight. What a good crop we've had this year!
    2. Pottering in the garden and then a gentle sit in the sunshine reading Nella Last's Peace. As a modern woman I yet again give thanks for the independence we have gained since the World War, but what a long battle it has been. I also enjoyed Nella Last's War. The kind of book one can pick up and re-read. I love her little food stretching tips. What would she have thought of all today's convenience foods?
    3. Being able to support a friend who is going through a very rough time with a sick parent.
    4. Some household cleaning done. Always feel better when the place looks tidy.
  • My five for today are:
    1. Being woken up with a kiss on the cheek from my husband
    2. My son saying that I'm the best Mum in the world!
    3. Making a batch of twinks to share as a family
    4. Having enough nectar points to get my shopping for 37p of real cash.
    5. Taking something back to the shop because I decided I don't really need it.
Hope everyone is having a lovely day.
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!
  • Evening all,

Glad to have brought a smile to Sparrer and Primrose ref mention of rag and bone man (didn't know what else to call him!). He has a bell, but sadly no horse!

Reverbe - am intrigued by your winter bag, what is it?

Not fully caught up on pages, hope everyone is well.

    1. Done lots of washing today all dried outside.
    2. Turned lots of things off of standby around house to save electricity and do a bit for the environment.
    3. An expedition into the freezer produced tonight's dinner. Fish n chips.
    4. Added some loose change to the savings pig. Put a £10 lottery win in there too.
    5. Sat outside reading in the garden. Bliss.

    :A
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

Less things. Less stuff. More life.
 Fab thread: Long daily walks

    1. The sunshine - and getting the clothes washed, dried but err, not yet ironed ;)
    2. DD and I went out to a fairy festival and had a wonderful day, dancing, painting fairy wings, walking through a magic wood and soaking up the atmosphere.
    3. Taking a great big and delicious-looking picnic for DD and remembering to take extra snacks for home-time, so that I didn't have to buy more food on the way home like i usually have to to stop the rumbling of the bottomless pit that is her tummy, lol.
    4. Using a money-off voucher to treat myself to a rare newspaper.
    5. Putting together another bag of too-big clothes for someone else to enjoy on Fr&ecycle and getting into a few more items from my "shop under the bed".

Hello, everyone, I hope you are all well and having a good Sunday morning. Recent pleasures for me are:

    1. Having a friend to stay on Friday night and going for a yummy  and very cheap curry.
    2. Finding that my decorator is doing a fantastic job and is a lovely woman as well :j.
    3. Two new foster cats, Meg and Molly, arriving and they are gorgeous :happyhear !
    4. Watching the eye candy in the American crime dramas on 5 - I love them .
    5. Getting fantastic feedback on the first story that I wrote for a fanfic site - all glowing responses, nothing negative and I've been added to several people's favourite author/story list :j:j and :jagain! So I'm delighted.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
  • Here are mine for yesterday:

    1) Turning a big bag of windfalls into apple pies of the future! (i.e., stewed and in my freezer :D )
    2) Getting a bit more sewing done when we got back from a party laaaate last night. It was therapeutic to sit there and stitch while we calmed down from the night and warmed up from the chill!
    3) Making a coconut cake - I always enjoy baking.
    4) Doing an inventory of my freezer and making a list of what needs using next. I now have a productive list of things to work through, and it is pinned to my fridge.
    5) Having a nice long walk to the supermarket instead of catching the bus. I feel all energised. :)

    Have a lovely day :)

Good [STRIKE]morning[/STRIKE] afternoon all :hello: - still a decent day here in Liverpool and not too cold either.

Caterina - great to see you are encouraging the 'next generation' :).
Patchwork - It IS hard when we're 'not very fond of' the partner of our nearest and dearest. I feel exactly the same way about DS1's g/f - but having been on the receiving end of people's suspicions about a partner's intentions, I know exactly what it feels like from both perspectives. For me, I find it best to just accept her as his choice (for now), firmly bite my lip (saves eating humble pie if it works out) and be prepared to 'help pick-up the pieces' if it doesn't (without uttering those awful words ITYS!). OH has now been 'dry' for around 14 years and even my mother has come around - phew!
blonde36er - well done you on getting the housework out of the way so early - you're very welcome to come round and kick mine into shape as well, if you're feeling bored/energetic ;).
mummysaver - wd to your dd's - sometimes the penny just drops without us having to nag at them.
Primrose - you've all been commenting on 'Nella Last's War/Peace' so I'm going to try to get hold of them - sound really good.
AlwaysHappy - :j on the Nectar Points shopping spree!
mineallmine - Your post reminded me about DD's moving day recently. She had hired the van/driver by the hour, so we started shifting stuff downstairs and out onto the driveway well before he arrived. A big open-backed lorry pulled up outside and DD went running out shouting 'Hey I ordered a van NOT a lorry - my stuff isn't getting moved on THAT!' It turned out to be the local rag-and-bone man who thought he may have been able to pick up something - DD was most annoyed that he considered her precious belongings to be fit for his trade :rotfl:.
Kittikins - I bet your dd was delighted with the Fairy Festival - I know my 11yr old dgd would be, even now.
Reverbe - I foresee some warm, cosy evenings ahead in your home this winter.
savingforoz - well done on your story being so well received :T - a friend of mine is a writer and she submits on a website along with others. I wonder if it's the same site.
Kitchenbunny - I did a freezer inventory last weekend - quite an eye-opener . Can you share your recipe for a coconut cake please? My OH is rather partial to coconut but my kids aren't - will make a change to have something for him that they leave alone - I already make Lemon Drizzle and Banana Cakes that they all love.

Here we go then for yesterday and this morning:
    1. OH decided (for some strange reason) that he wasn't going to go off doing his own thing yesterday for a change - but that he would accompany ME shopping instead . Normally I ask him and he mumbles/mutters/decides he doesn't feel like it and goes off to meet up with some [STRIKE]'other music nuts'[/STRIKE] friends to talk jibberish.

    2. First stop was my favourite charity shop with some of dgd2's baby shoes that won't go near her! She's not 2 yet and already in a size 8  - also donated a pile of carrier bags (very obsessively flattened, folded and 'rolled into sausages' of about 20 in a roll - 4 rolls!) - I think they were more grateful for the carrier bags :rotfl:.

    3. Then off to the Optician for my eye test. Only a slight difference but enough to need new lenses - I could actually tell. Told them I wanted to keep the costs down so chose from the £75 range and got 2 pairs. Including the varifocals, graduated tints and eyetest it came to £165 in total. £20 less than two and a half years ago - so not too bad at all. I'll also get a rebate on that from Medicash when I send them my receipt :j.

    4. Trip to the posh coffee shop and OH paid (including 2 stem ginger biscuits) - and still wondering [STRIKE]what he's after[/STRIKE] why he's trying to impress me !

    5. B&M Bargains - Beef Oxo cubes 49p for 12 - so bought 2 packs, Rowse Honey £1.26 a jar (£2.25 in Asda), pj's for niece for birthday or christmas not sure which yet, and 2 boxes of decent shortbread for 99p a pack - now in the 'Xmas stash'. HomeBargains - OH bought a huge wallet for holding CD's - good bargain as he's seen the same make for a dearer price in Liverpool city centre shops. Wilkinsons - new bulb needed for halogan standard lamp - £1.24 for 2 bulbs - need to find somewhere safe for the spare bulb where it won't get broken. Asda - root veg packs marked £1.49 went through the till at £1.00 so I went back for two more - £1.36 for 10lbs of SmartPrice spuds. Then afternoon tea in Asda cafe - tea, coffee, apple pie and lemon meringue - my treat and it worked out MUCH cheaper than the two coffees and dinky biscuits in the posh coffee place.

    6. Ham Salad on crusty Tiger Rolls, coleslaw and cherry toms for supper.

    7. SC is on with Scouse for evening meal tonight and also made a pan of mixed veg soup (used up veg peelings again, large chopped onion, a leek, some cauli leaves/stalks, pathetic celery, 2 ham stock cubes, 2 veg cubes, mixed herbs, ground coriander, celery salt, white pepper - sorry I didn't put some pearl barley in it at the start, but too late now. This will do lunch tomorrow and maybe some leftover (but doubt it if OH is around!).

    8. Planning a couple of Banana and Walnut cakes this afternoon and maybe some Twinks - bought an extra bag of oats for the purpose :j.

I suppose I really should go and make an effort in the Living Room as well :( - at least show willing while OH has got dgs1 out at the car booty sale today.

speak again later folks - hope you're all having the kind of sunday that you enjoy - love Ollie xxx
  • Today has been a lovely day, just pottering about and catching up - my pleasures have been:
    1. Waking up to breakfast already been prepared by hubby.
    2. My son telling me that I am wonderful for cooking such lovely meals (?)
    3. Husband taking son off to Legoland for the day with half price tickets we had so that I could have some ME time.
    4. Making some hand made bread instead of using my trusty breadmaker - its rising as I type
    5. Realising how lucky I am - I have lots of worries - my son has lots of learning difficulties for example - but feel blessed in so many ways - despite the worry for the future he too is such a joy!
Hope you all are having a lovely Sunday.
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!
