  • Thanks for all the thoughts and hugs guys

    Today my five are:

    1) My free prescription card coming through the post. I never have prescriptions so I'm not sure why I'm so pleased to now have the card but I am.
    2) Browsing around town in the charity and regular shops but not spending a single penny.
    3) Another load of washing dried without the tumble drier
    4) Lunch with a really good friend and catching up on all of the gossip
    5) An hour dozing on the sofa
  • Hi chaps! Back again. What a week. DH is laminating the living room floor and I can't find anything. May have to catch up with the posts later.

    However -

    1) Making chutney for Christmas presents. Have also done vodka plums, mixed berry jam and the last of the beetroot, pickled.
    2) Still getting things dry on the line outside. A real blessing.
    3) Going out to shop for birthday presents and cards this morning and not buying anything else. This really did take some willpower.
    4) Celebrating Mum's fiance's birthday this evening at a restaurant near his flat. My family don't really get on very well and he has brought another interesting personality to the mix but occasions like this bring out the best in everyone.
    5) Lastly, although this is out of order, the lovely ladies at work who are all saving jars for me. I gave out some jam in return this week and have had some very positive comments.

  • Hello there, I haven't been on here to post before, but when I've read it, I always smile, so, I'm going to jump in if I may - my 5 pleasures today :
    1. Waking up in the arms of my wonderful husband
    2. Stripping the beds and later putting clean sheets on them
    3. Adding white vinegar to my wash in the machine and noticing how enhanced the smell of my washing powder became.
    4. Getting some yeast for free
    5. The smell of homemade bread wafting through my house
Have had an extremely stressful day, but the above reminded me of the life I want to lead.
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!

Good morning  - another chilly, but pleasant, start to the day! OH has just opened the back door and we can hear motorway traffic going past.

newlywed - enjoy your day out with the family tomorrow
helyg - I should have known that a 'crafty-type person', such as yourself, wouldn't miss an opportunity for one item to serve two purposes :T.
reverbe - that winter bag of yours is really coming along nicely - I just KNOW that I'd be dippping into some of those yummy things right now - certainly admire your self-restraint ;).
sunflower - well done you on not buying in your charity/bargain shop browsing - I can never resist them. Going to do the exact same thing myself this afternoon :j.
Patchwork - hope your family all enjoyed the meal out with the birthday boy and good luck with the remainder of the laminating - reminds me of that scene in Royle Family when Barbara 'got laminated' ;).
starjumper - :hello: and welcome to you. :T on your Macmillan Coffee Morning and on the hostess' perks (l/o muffins ;)). Did you manage to get bits for your Christmas hampers in Ikea? What kind do you make - you need to tell us - all ears .
AlwaysHappy - :hello: and welcome to you too. aaawww at your No.1 - maybe that's something I don't always show appreciation of :(. I'm at the sheet changing as well today - hope the day stays fine so I can get it all dry outdoors.

Let's see where can I start for yesterday:

    1. We had the firemen back again yesterday morning to finish off testing the smoke/heat detectors - only a couple who weren't around to be done.

    2. DD rang to say she'd been to register with the new GP and was going back later in the day for 'her injection' and smear test. They surprised her and got a blood test done for anaemia at the same time (she's terrified of the sight of blood!). They've also sent off an for an appointment for a 'camera down' which her previous GP never did. She mentioned dgs1 and his problems to them - luckily he was with her and the GP could see first hand what he's like - messing around with everything, investigating bits around the consulting room, opening cupboards even though he was told to sit down and keep still.

    3. Delicious lamb's liver/onion gravy, carrots, green beans and mashed pots for evening meal. I think that last lot must have been Ox Liver because this time it was very 'melt-in-the-mouth'. Half of the raw liver now been frozen for future use. A 250g (half pound) margarine tub just fits enough for two (hungry) adults.

    4. Loved last night's Emmerdale and Corrie - I've been watching them both since day 1 and hate missing either.

    5. DS2 rang and he's planning a Christening Party for dgs3 who's now a year old. Wants to do the catering himself (we've both worked in catering) and has been grilling me for ideas on what to serve. I can sense a brainstorming session coming on with all the cookery books out on the table :rotfl:! No doubt I'll get roped in to provide something! Bet I get put on chicken drumstick/pasta salad/sandwich making/crudite&dip duty . Wonder how many Lemon Drizzle Cakes we might need too ;).

    6. Got my eyetest booked for 2.00pm today - then going for a bimble around the charity shops at the same time :) - then meeting OH in Asda Cafe around 4.30 for a 'whoopsie hunt' :j.

    7. Planning 'Scouse' in the Slow Cooker for tomorrow's evening meal - need some fresh carrots and swede for that - got everything else in.

I suppose I'd better go and get showered and changed - can't sit around all day in my nightie ! Need to be out of here before anybody can shout 'Mu-u-u-um, you got any plans for today?'

Hope everybody has a great day doing what they want to do - take care and ((((HUGS)))) to all - love Ollie xxx

    Hi all

quickly in and out to put my blessings for yesterday (won't be in today so will catch up with today's tomorrow!).

Before that, though, I want to say to Sunflower76: I wish you all the best in your journey to full recovery, I am only adding to what others have said in saying that with your lovely positive attitude you will do really well! (((HUGS))).

Here are my blessings for yesterday:

1 - Pilates class in the morning, hard work but very worthwhile, discovered that my abs are nothing to write home about so it gave me incentive to do more.

2 - MacMillan fundraiser coffee morning, went after Pilates class and had a sandwich for lunch and a couple of cakes and cups of tea. Quite expensive but really not begrudging the money at all, as it goes to a very good charity.

3 - Sunny afternoon wandering around Lewisham market.

4 - Cup of tea and scone later in the afternoon at my friend's house in her amazing little cottage garden, full of herbs, apple tree, pond with fountain, squirrels and birds, you would never know you are in Inner London, really peaceful and beautiful space!

5 - Pot of quince jelly from my friend, homemade from her ornamental quinces.

6 - 3 large cooking apples from the tree of my friend's next door neighbour, who is also a friend of mine. She heard us chatting and came to a chat over the fence and offered the apples, very kind of her. Had apple pudding for dinner, and yummy it was, too! So sweet it did not even need sugar.

7 - Another batch of homemade baked beans made, DD made the sauce for me while I did the laundry. I love passing a sense of "self reliance" to my kids, teaching them that it is not necessary always to get things from shops, tins and plastic boxes.

8 - My "spreadable butter" is a success with the family! I melted half a bar of organic butter, mixed it with same amount of organic rapeseed oil, whipped it all together, put back in butter "spreadable" box, put in fridge and after a couple of hours I had perfectly lovely "spreadable butter" at half the cost of an organic one, and much healthier too!

Off I go now, loads of lovely things to do which I shall report about tomorrow.

Have a great day everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    2. OH's birthday yesterday and all my kids remembered - 2 arrived with cards/pressies and the other one who was working rang to wish him Happy Birthday. I'm so pleased about this as they struggled to accept him in the very early years of our relationship as he was still drinking back then.

(((((hugs to all))))) - love Ollie xxx

Just a note to say thanks for this, Ollie. I kept on thinking about it as we were on our way to the birthday party. It is very hard for us to accept Mum's OH - none of her family or friends think she should be with him - but in the end, it makes her happy to have a companion and it may work out very well. It's good to see things from the opposite point of view. We all had a lovely time by the way.
  • 1 - All the housework is done so I can relax for the rest of the weekend :j

    2 - Sunflower's positivity - :)

3 - Feeling Spud wriggle about, only another 20 weeks before we can meet him/her ;)

4 - Finding some tasty OS recipes on here to use up the fruit/veg in my fridge before it goes off, looking forward to some cooking later on!

5 - The sun is shining, the birds are singing in the garden and a big fat squirrel is playing on the lawn!
