Five OS Pleasures in your day today
Comments
-
some of my recent pleasures:-
1. getting a whole day to myself and getting to London to meet some friends from a Forum for the first time.
2. Having enough time to read a whole book on the train and do some Christmas planning.
3. A glorious day here today - and I got to cycle into town along the river which was beautiful.
4. I'd forgotten that the food and drink festival had started - so I spent an hour just wandering around the stalls!
5. England won at cricket!!!!!!!!!:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
Struggling hard to find pleasures at the moment which is making me cross with myself. Have to keep telling myself that it has been a h*ll of a year and that I need to cut myself some slack. So ...
1. A lovely drive out with dh and ds today.
2. A funny Sunday tea of sausages, mashed potatoes and carrots but that was what was requested & demolished by the troops.
3. Enjoying Strictly over the past two nights.
4. Having a quick catch-up with a friend and agreeing that we need to arrange a proper night out in the next two or three weeks.
5. Catching up with everyone's posts on here.
Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone, Thriftyxxx0 -
Evening all  - hope we've all had a good sunday
.
Primrose - that's exactly what I do with my curtains too - best way I've found.
Reverbe - :j on your Focus Group. The Housing Association that I work for does them but doesn't pay out like that - you get transported/fed/watered and that's your lot. You've had another good batch of freebies/samples there as well :T.
helyg - well done on the lavender bags - they're such a thoughtful gift for somebody. Have you ever made them a little bit bigger to go inside pillowcases as 'sleep pillows'?
flutterby - sounds like you're really getting into the 'single lifestyle' and enjoying every minute - good for you :T.
savingforoz - good luck to your foster catI'm sure he'll have a good life when he settles in properly.
Kittikins - aaaahhhh the big drawback about going on holiday - the return to work afterwards.
cyclingyorkie - my OH was rather delighted about the cricket as well PLUS Liverpool won too :j:j.
thriftyscotslass - ((((BIG HUGS)))) for you. Sounds like you could really do with that night out with your friend - you go and let your hair down.
1. Collected dgd2 this morning - well her mother stood at the bus stop and pushed the pram on the bus to me :rotfl:! The bus driver was laughing as poor Katie didn't seem to notice what happened .
2. Had a good walk around the car boot sale and managed to find a lovely solid wood high-chair. When I hummed and hawed about it, the lovely guy asked where I lived and has promised to deliver it tomorrow morning on his way into work - he passes the end of my road.
3. Picked up a 'Winnie the Pooh Tip 'n' Topple Game' (£1), 'Lucky Ducks Game' (£1) and 'Boggle' (£2) - so highly delighted with our little haul this week.
3. Lunch in McD's (again!) - Katie had the chicken nuggets and a drink while I had the Sweet Chilli Chicken Deli Sandwich and coffee.
4. Got the bus back to our local village shopping centre. OH's birthday tomorrow - so wanted to get him something. Slippers, socks and thermal undies (long-sleeved vest and long-johns) - also got him a book on Cricket.
5. OH has finally cut the grass in our rear garden :j - but we appear to have a problem with the Flymo. It's cutting fine with the new blade, BUT doesn't appear to be picking up the grass properly. Maybe it just needs a darn good cleaning out - do hope so! Don't fancy buying a new lawnmower at this stage of the year - on the other hand, maybe now would be the time to get a bargain - it being the end of the growing season.
I'm just about done for the evening - so I'm going to get myself off to bed. The throat is beginning to rasp a little again, so 2 paracetamols are the order of the day. Nitey nite all, love from Ollie xxx

This weekend's OS pleasures.
1. Lovely, lovely weather.
2. Not needing any heating on at all - long may it last.
3. Lovely roast chicken for Sunday lunch, never have it on a Sunday as DS isn't keen, but he's away so we can please ourselves.
4. Enough chicken left over to make a family pie one day, meanwhile it's in the freezer awaiting it's fate.
5. Bits of chicken to pick off for our lunch today - and then there's the bones.

Good afternoon everybody!
First of all, thank you for the Welcome back messages and well-wishing for my cold to get better (I am nearly 100% ok now!)
I have tried to catch up with all the details of all of you in my absence but it is so much, I had to desist. A few things came across, though, one is the fact that so many of you seem to have lost weight or gone back to a healthy regime, well done! I hope to join this healthy group sooner or later!
Hugs to all of you who need them!
Then, I could just not miss the maggot ordeal that Reverbe had to go through, poor you! Of course if you were from Sardinia like me you would not be so badly affected as we eat the little blighters in our cheese! Here is an explanation - BEWARE: NOT FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED! http://incontiguousbrick.wordpress.com/2007/07/15/grossest-food-ever-casu-marzu/
I am not going to list all the blessings of the holiday because I would be stuck to the computer until tomorrow, but here are a few of the most significant ones:
1 - Amazing weather, I had forgotten what it feels like waking up every morning and see the sun shining - incredible feeling.
2 - Got along really well with DH in fact we laughed so much, we were like kids - we spoke pig-french to each other and we just had the best of time together, and not a single argument - WOW!
3 - Plently of vegetarian food (compared to usual French experience), easy to find and very tasty.
4 - Even though the beach was pebbly, we managed to get into the sea a couple of times, it was warm and reasonably clean (this is the best I can say about the seaside experience, which was not the best part of our stay, really!)
5 - The town of Nice is so beautiful, there was always a new little corner to discover every day. Once we decided not to waste our time with the seaside we made a point of going to lovely places in undiscovered parts of the town and we were not disappointed.
6 - Found an amazing vegan restaurant, Le Speakeasy, run by a very interesting American woman. Went there twice it was so good!
Could go on but will stop here and will add some blessings from the last few days:
1 - Found the house in a decent state (considering it had been left in the twins' hands for the last 10 days, that is! :rotfl:).
2 - The weather on our return was really good, we were expecting freezing cold and rain but it has been mild and pleasant so far for the most part.
3 - The garden has been producing lovely veg and is still giving us loads of nice green stuff (and the Borlotti beans are red and ready to pick for Pasta e Fagioli soup!).
4 - My cold was not swine flu as I feared but it was just a bad cold, which has now almost completely cleared.
5 - It was really good to get back home, see the kids and sleep in our bed!
6 - Because we came back on a Tuesday, there was only a 3-day gap to the weekend.
7 - Sunday we went to the Urban Green Fair in Brockwell Park and had a lovely time, got loads of freebies including radish seeds (which I was planning to buy to plant for later greens).
And now for today's blessings:
1 - Breakfast with DS, lovely mushroom omelette.
2 - Back to the Keep fit class.
3 - Usual tea time with friends after keep fit, nice to catch up.
4 - DD first day at Uni went well, she is really pleased and I am a very proud mum!
5 - Pak choi in the garden needs eating so I am planning a veg and tofu stir fry.
Have a good evening everybody! xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Glad to see you back Caterina... Have a good evening and glad you enjoyed your holiday..
PS I'm maggot free now lolWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Evening
My pleasures for today are:
1. Having a good (and short, half day!) in work today.
2. Visiting my parents this evening, and coming home with pound of potatoes, 5 onions, green beans (all home grown), a hand mixer and chinese cookbook! All donated by parents
3. Having dinner prepared in fridge which just needed heating up.
4. Getting to the library before it closed, so I could pick 3 new books to read.
That's it for now!
Have a good evening

Welcome back Caterina, glad you had a good holiday in Nice.
Evening everyone, (((hugs))) to anyone who needs or would just like one.
Struggling with depression at the moment, it seems to have kicked in with a vengence. I've suffered badly twice in the past so I do know that given time, rest and exercise it will pass. For any fellow sufferers, it's at the stage where I'm feeling okay in the evening, go to bed, I'm wide awake at 4-5am - ish, then I fall back to sleep and I cannot wake up with the alarm and feel tearful, low and incredibly sluggish when I eventually do wake up, it's then taking forever for my mood to lift in the day. If it doesn't right itself shortly, it'll be back to the docs for me.
Five for today:
1. Managing to get into ds's room to get it cleaned today - I had to laugh at all ds charms and treasures placed in strategic places around his room, there must be some powerful magic taking place :rotfl: (those of you who live with ASD will know what I'm talking about).
2. Crisp, egyptian cotton sheets to go on his bed - it'll soon be too cold for these, a bit more autumny round these parts today.
3. Being up-to-date with the ironing - yay (two big washloads on their way - boooo, currently drying on airers, bit drizzly today)
4. Dh clearing all his stuff - sorry precious things :rotfl: off the kitchen table and from the bottom of the stairs. They'll be getting cleaned tomorrow
5. Getting big thanks for cooking pasta and cheese sauce for tea tonight - very yummy but oh, so fattening.
Very simple, homey pleasures today but so important.
Enjoy the rest of your evening, Thrifty xxx0
