Five OS Pleasures in your day today
Comments
-
Good morning all  - chilly morning and no sun as of yet (do hope it puts in an appearance soon - OH has got a lawn to sort out :j).
mineallmine - thanks for the link to the Oxtail Soup recipe - sounds rather tasty to me . btw - screening sorted:T.
newlywed - hope your neighbour is OK.
Caterina - welcome back home - good to hear you and OH had a 'Nice' holiday - Nice/nice - get it? Oh never mind, I'll get my coat ........... Sorry to hear about your germs though, make sure you take care.
Kittikins - Hope your DD enjoyed her first day in school - it's such a wrench when they first start. I got all choked up when DS1 started school - aged nearly 5 (no school nurseries back then) - by the time it came to DS2 and then DD, I was chucking them out the door and into Nursery at 3 :j - couldn't get those two there quick enough.
sparrer - How awful about your new f/f  - sounds like they handled it badly in transit. Did you phone the company - I'm sure nobody would have allowed it to leave the warehouse in THAT condition? :T on getting your bathroom walltiles on freecycle.
1. Another quiet work day yesterday :T - but 'something' must have happened on the estate because we had the Police swarming all over the place with one road 'taped off'.
2. dgd1 has been diagnosed (over the phone, I might add!) with Swineflu. She came home from school on Monday feeling poorly, sore throat and with a temperature. As the evening went on, she was shaking and feeling very 'achey', sweaty and then vomitted. DD rang the NHS Advice Line and was put through to the 'Swineflu Advisors' and asked a few more questions. Finally told to keep her isolated for 5 days and get somebody to come and collect some Tamiflu . Luckily DS1 lives fairly close to her so went for the medication. How the heck is she supposed to keep an 11yr old isolated from an 8 and 22mth old? She's not convinced about the Swineflu in this case, as dgd1 now appears 'right as rain' and is bouncing around all over the place again. And DD wonders why we didn't want her to move a distance away from us .
3. Decided to get the blade sharpened on our Flymo and rang a local lawnmower maintenance firm. Got told they don't deal with electric mowers - how strange. When I enquired about replacement blades - it costs £10 for a new blade. I'm sure it would have cost more to have it sharpened - another example of throw it away!!! Anyway, we now have the replacement and OH is going to tackle the garden again later today - weather permitting. It's been dry for nearly a full week now, so he's got excuse about wet grass clogging the mower.
4. We've been bat-watching out of the back door in the evenings recently. With the lovely sunsets and mild evenings, they are putting on a great display at dusk. The skyline is very open here at the moment, as there are no houses at the back of ours - in fact the nearest houses in that direction are about 400yds away. We've also seen some kestrels hovering over one of the cleared areas. Building progress has been halted due to the recession so all this land has been cleared for about 4 years and it's quickly reverted to wildlife.
5. I ordered myself some new shoes and boots for the winter from a catalogue and am hoping that they arrive today - delivery is normally 48hours, so fingers crossed. I have real problems finding shoes/boots for my size 9's, but this firm is good (pricey but good). Awful when you get to an age where you buy for comfort instead of style. Why can't I have both? I still dream about the cream suede, stack heeled, ankle-strap, size 8 shoes that I bought when I was 20!
Hope we all have a good day - speak again later - love Ollie xxx0 -
Hi all,
1. Making HM leek and potato soup (thanks for the recipe newlywed)
2. Have a cream cake from the local bakers for afters.
3. Helping a friend (convince a friend) that they hadn't won prize money and all they had to do was send X pounds. Told them about Mail Preference Service where you register to avoid junk mail. http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/
4. Walking past and so not wasting money on all the rubbish magazines in MrT (we all know the ones, with "celebrities",) and thinking getting books from the library has got to be better for the brain.
5. Using my own bags when shopping, so no plastic bags being wasted.

Evening everyone. Here's my 5 for the last couple of days:
1. Going line-dancing with some friends. It is years since I have done this and we had such a good time, yee-ha!
2. Clearing all my ironing, now that was a mammoth task :j
3. Home-made pasta with a tomato & garlic sauce, topped with grated cheese for tea tonight - yummy.
4. Enjoying these early Autumn days - still dry and not too chilly as yet.
5. Looking forward to relaxing in front of the tv and an early night tonight.
Look after yourself everyone, Thriftyxxx0 -
My five for today before I have an early night. I'm really tired.
1. Another lovely sunny day with washing dried on the line.
2. Getting a small bit of gardening done. If you saw my garden you would understand why I am so happy about this. It was like a jungle when we moved in.
3.Swimming with DD2. She is such a waterbaby (even at 11).
4.Getting all my 'up town' errands done in under an hour - only had to pay £1 to park.
5. Recieved a CD from my brother with photos on from our Yorkshire three peaks walk last weekend. As the weather was beautiful and he is a great photographer the pictures are stunning.
Love to all. Good night.0 -
1. DD loving the second day of school as much as she did the first.
2. Whilst she was at school, I went bargain-hunting and got.....2 pairs of casual sandals for DD next summer (not sure how big her feet will be so got size 12 and 13 - but for £2 a pair I wasn't going to complain); 7 pairs of lovely cotton socks for me for the total of £7! and birthday/Christmas presents for DD/couple of her friends.
3. The official weigh-in tonight showed only 5lb on, phew!!
4. Catching up with a lovely friend who lives nearby but I've not spoken to properly for ages.
5. Collecting lots of conkers in the park with DD; instead of buying flowers for the house, we have a bowl of shiny conkers0 -
I'm still struggling to catch up as life seems to be taking over on all fronts.
Some of my pleasures this week:-
1. A lovely day out with DH to a garden in Gloustershire which we had a two for one coupon for.
2. Then on to a nearby NT garden, we're members and the new OAP subscription only works out at just over £1 per week so we can afford that.
3. Happy that we are able to budget for these treats, but we do have to be strict with ourselves e.g. if we pay for admission we take all our food and drink with us for the day, and long petrol guzzling trips are limited.
4. Buying plums and damsons from a roadside vendor on the way home, never see them round here.
5. Making four damson pies, flash open freezing some of the plums, stoned and halved.
6. A boiled egg, homemade granary roll and plums and cold custard for tea. We don't very often have teatime teas and it was a real treat.
7. Cooked the rest of the plums and they are cooling ready for me to get my hands in to stone them, then they'll be some crumbles coming up.

I need to catch up too. Ditched a few days notes... let's start with Tuesday
Tuesday
1. Bacon and egg sandwich for brekky bought by my flatmate
2. Flowers from a local florist friend
3. Greggs token for £1 in post after I had to make a complaint about a tech issue accessing vouchers on their site
4. Alice IN The Cities finally arrived form Lovefilm posted on the 8th..
5. Free Attenborough dvd - penguins and dolphins
6. Birthday card in the post from a mate at footy Ted - HUGE surprise
7. Birthday card from flatmates parents with £20 in which I spent on My Name Is Earl series 3 dvd box set
8. big carrier bag full of home grown runner beans and tomatoes from flatmates parents - had been hoping for some as I have given them a lot of free seeds for things this year
9. free Venti Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks with voucher
10. Glass of wine watching Titfield Thunderbolt.

Hi all, here's mine:
1. Baking some bread last night - third time and still working out ok.
2. The slow cooker cooking my butternut squash soup overnight so all I had to do this morning was blend it
3. Yellow stickered chocolate muffins yesterday.
4. Finding out I had £2.50 worth of nectar points to take off my shopping (down to my last few quid till payday)
5. Finding a quid in my jean pocket when I went to put them in the wash
6. Finding my £1.50 tesco points voucher (really at this point in the month every little really does help!!!)
7. Looking forward to the weekend and baking lots of goodies!!
add 8. The Red Arrows flying not too far from our office. Better than staring out the window at the cloudsworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
1) Coffee at a friend's house this morning, so it was very inexpensive!
2) Dealing with the produce from the allotment. It feels very harvest festival here. I'm not sure the bottled beans will go down too well but I have pickled some of our own cucumbers and I am looking forward to them.
3) Finding enough money in my purse to pay for everything I needed at the supermarket. Set myself a budget in cash this week and it hurts so much more to part with my pennies.
4) "Take out" bags from the supermarket for this evening. DD's bf is having his last supper before going off to Uni. I'm providing the food and they are bringing the booze - it will be about half the cost of going to the pub and eating there and both families need to be frugal, so it feels good.
5) Still being able to dry washing on the line. The sun has come out now so I'm off to stick some more outside and make the most of it.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone0 -
