Welcome Rui, if it hasn't been said before.

    1) Cleared out the cupboard under the stairs in an effort to find something that wasn't there in the first place. However, it has now been swept and vacuumed for the first time since 1956 and looks scarily organised.
    2) Spent most of the day up a ladder sawing off the branches of the lilac tree that were growing through my apple tree. Only fell off once. Landed on my back with a bump in the spongy grass and counted myself lucky to a) be uninjured and b) not to have squished a slug or a rotten apple. I hope we will have more apples next year, now that the tree can breathe.
    3) Had three cats and two robins watching me at different times during the day. I don't need to own a cat. I just need to step outside purposefully and one will come running up to see what I am doing now.
    4) DH shelved the shoe cupboard. He did it so economically that we now have one pack of boards to take back to the DIY shop and he negotiated (this is the man that has been smirking at my moneysaving efforts so far) with the shop selling all the plastic boxes that he put on the shelves for the shoes (saved £8.50).
    5) Leftovers for lunch, whipped up by DD and home made baked beans with home grown chips and poached eggs for tea. Very frugal for a Sunday.

    Have a lovely evening, everyone
  • Evening all

I have had the most unexpectedly wonderful Sunday :) My OS pleasures for today have been:

    1. Woke up early and put out washing to dry on airer
    2. Spent morning sitting on the balcony in the sun, finished my book and read a magazine.
    3. Bought myself a slow cooker for £7 from Asda :)
    4. Went for my first bike ride round my new area. Rode to next town along (about 8kms round trip). Beautiful scenary as the path runs along the coast. it wass lovely to see people out enjoying the sun.
    5. Had an unexpected call from a dear friend, who I worked with at Camp America last summer, who was in my city visiting family and had spare couple of hours and did I want to meet up! So spent 3 hours in local pub having a catch up.

I haven't had time to cook anything in my oven thats been fixed - other than cheese on toast! but all set to cook tomorrow.

    Happy Sunday night everyone :)

    1. Being back on track diet-wise and not feeling hard done by, have just clicked back into it.
    2. DD sprinkling my head with magic healing glitter and stroking my poorly ears to help me feel better when I was grotty earlier :)
    3. Finding the name tapes for DD's uniform, safely hidden away....I WILL get them in the clothes before she starts!!
    4. Being double-booked for a night out at the end of the month, a nice feeling as I rarely go out, just need to try and get a babysitter for whichever night I choose to go to.
    5. Mooching on MSN, watching TV and feeling v-e-r-y happy that I'm not working this week :):)
  • Hi everyone

I haven't posted in the last month so I have ten pages to catch up on . That's my coffee breaks sorted for the next few days .

It has been a horrendous month, very emotional and painful. Unfortunately, we have alcoholism in our family and I have made the extremely painful decision to sever contact with my Mum and my brother. As a child, I lost my father to alcoholism, the cycle is repeating with my brother drinking and my mother unwittingly enabling him and I cannot go through it all again.

I am so glad to be back and my five pleasures for today are:

    1. For the first time in a month feeling like I am able to look beyond my own pain and wanting to come back to MSE.

    2. Knowing that I have lots of uplifting posts to catch up on.

    3. Looking at my own dh, ds and dd and knowing without a shadow of a doubt that I have made the correct decision to step out of the chaos.

    4. A beautiful, beautiful day

    5. A lovely walk enjoying blue skies, green hills and blue seas.

    Love to all, Thrifty xxx

    Hi Ollie

I've lost so many posts on MSE that I now automatically copy my text before posting. Then if I lose my post all I have to do is reply again and paste my copied text. Saves me hours and keeps me chilled :D

Hi all. Hugs to those that need them.

    Here's mine:

    1. Greengage crumble - yum (couldn't remember if I liked greengages or not - but I do :D)
    2. Stretching a roast chicken to make 12 meal portions, plus lots of stock for soup making :D That's gone a bit further than I usually get - 10 has been the max so far.
    3. Looking at the price of butternut squash in Sainsbug and deciding to check Aldi - then getting 2 butternut squash for 49p each in Aldi, as well as leeks, corn on the cob, cauli, and lots of other veg for just a fiver in total :D Glad I checked :D
    4. Looking forward to making butternut squash soup and leek and tattie soup for my lunches (using some HM chicken stock).
    5. Yet again being glad the police turned up about 3 am when someone was yet again screaming blue murder in the close (this time a woman but going for the same woman's flat as the bloke did last time )
    6. Leftover chicken barlotto (barley risotto) for lunch - tasted better cold :o
    7. OH not believing I made my mock chelsea buns - he thought they were shop bought ;):D
    8. Buying more bread flour from sainsbugs for more bread fun next weekend :D
    9. Having £20 more than I thought in my account (a huge relief coz I thought for veg portions, we'd be rationing the quarter pack of frozen peas and 6 carrots till payday :D)

and 10. Enjoying the English Heritage tour round the streets I used to live, learning bits and discovering there was what used to be a huge market garden just behind the terrace where we lived - and we never knew!!! And the horticulturist that lives there does various courses on organic gardening too :D

  • Evening all,

Boy I'm tired, but lots of OS pleasures:

    1. Fussing the cats.
    2. Catching up on paperwork/appointments to book/etc.
    3. Picking up some books at the library.
    4. Not buying some bits for the home just because they were reduced, they were not quite right so were put back on the shelf. Like wow!
    5. Making gravy for the first time in ages. Years. Followed the gravy bit on this recipe and it worked out well.

 Fab thread: Long daily walks
  • 1. Dried washing on the line when the forecast said 'drizzle'.

    2. A walk with DH to the Library to a free talk with free coffee and biscuits.

    3. The remnants of the chicken I cooked for my family on Saturday, served with home grown salad leaves for lunch.

    4. A few raspberries from the garden with hm yogurt for afters.

    5. A complete meal of leftovers tonight after the 'posh' visitors yesterday - looked like another Sunday roast and was completely effortless.
