Thanks for all your good wishes for my holiday. We had a good journey and arrived in good time. The rain came shortly later, but never mind, we had a smell of the sea and have spent the rest of the day unpacking and with the help of a complementry g&t, unwinding.

A great big bonus is that we have free wi-fi internet access, but I am going to TRY not to be on here all the time.

Think I've got my five pleasures in here somewhere but not so sure that they are all old style, but hey, I'm on holiday.

    Hugs to all.
    Bella.

Happy birthday for yesterday ginny, you do sound like you had a lovely day, relaxing and enjoying time with your family and having "you" time.

    Mine for Friday:

    1. Putting together, with the help of a lovely neighbour, the hammock on a stand that has been in its box for the past few weeks - it's fabulous! So big and comfy, if it was hotter tonight, I'd be tempted to sleep out on it :)
    2. Offering to look after another neighbour's son for a couple of hours whilst the parents ran about and did important things. He was a little cutie and he and DD play really nicely together. Mum of said little boy bought me a lovely houseplant to say thank you :)
    4. The sunshine
    5. being overcharged in Mr T's for something that was very heavily reduced in price and actually being bothered later in the day to take it back to ask for a refund of the difference. I didn't realise they give you 2x the difference, we got over £3 back, well as they say, every little helps!! :)
    6. Having a lovely evening with my friend, putting the world to rights and catching up on each other's news. Made me realise I must stop being so much of a hermit and should call my friends more....maybe tomorrow...

:hello: all - rather chilly Saturday so far in Merseyside.

mineallmine - well done on having a 'use-it-up' with toiletries - we're doing that as well at the moment. I couldn't believe I had three tins of hairpsray and 3 of mousse (one of each bought while on holiday as well ). Love the sound of Eton Mess as well .
Caterina - :staradmin to your DS for his farewell to you :kisses3:.
newlywed - your ciabatta lunch sounds absolutely delish - and :T you on the mealplanning - go girl!
LameWolf - hope you and OH have a great weekend with Molly-Dog emoticon-animal-003.gif.
PatchworkQuilt - typical Lakeland holiday then ;) - rain, flooded campsites and wonderful waterfalls - and, of course, that's why we all absolutely love the place. One of my favourites is Stock Ghyll Falls just up the road from Ambleside town centre - had many a damp picnic in the woods there .
mommyof4 - :T to your DS6 on his glasses and to your OH for the bonus - so handy for your holiday ;). Enjoy your smiley-eatdrink043.gif this evening.
thriftyscotslass - well done on your sanding - you well deserved your smiley-eatdrink058.gif afterwards.
kiwiblue - sounds as though you and your family are having a great time :j - funny how the old lego is always popular, no matter what the 'toy/gadget' of the moment is!
bella - cooeee - good to hear you arrived safely and hope the weather eases off for you!
ginnyknit - Happy :bdaycake: for yesterday - an os one sounds good to me  - family and good food - what more could anyone possibly want?
Kittikins - Well done on getting your hammock sorted out - just hope the weather lets you get the benefit of it. And great news about the refund in Mr T - similar happened to me in Asda couple of weeks ago.
Reverbe - oooooh Bringing Up Baby - one of my favourite films - OH bought it for me last Christmas. :T on your Lidl and Poundland bargains .

    1. DD was here yesterday tea-time - very annoyed as she had been to the court and the mortgage company hadn't sent anybody along. So once again it was postponed for another month. It's THEIR case for goodness sake! On top of that, her ex-OH gave her £100 (promised her £120 a month for Council Tax that she has to pay on his behalf (backdated debt) plus £30 a month for the children) and then said he was skint. She accepted that and has since found out that he then took his new gf to a hotel for the night. I hope he's got some good running shoes - cos he gonna need them when she sees him again. Should have some firm news about the neighbour who wants to buy her house - maybe she won't need to go back to court after all.

    2. Tonight's tea is going to be Turkey Chilli (HM and out of freezer) with pasta and garlic bread (whoopsied and in freezer).

    3. Must remember to take a chicken out for tomorrow's lunch.

    4. Doing quite well on the 'use up the toiletries' mission. Another three used up aerosols gone in the bin this week :j.

    5. Need a good sorting out session in the bedroom - too much clutter hanging around - will go and make a start when I've finished on here and had some lunch.

    6. Got 2 defrosted granary rolls - going to toast them and spread with SmartPrice 'philly' and chives for OH and myself. Bet the doorbell will ring just as we sit down to enjoy them :rotfl:.

    7. 2 samples of Cheerios through the letterbox yesterday .

    8. Confession time now - still enjoying Big Brother :o:o:o.

Have a great day everybody - special ((((((HUGS)))))) for all who need them.

Speak again later - love Ollie xxx

    Hi all

Ollie, thanks for the explanation re. tragus!

Am a bit sad today because DH went away for a week to do his martial arts training and grading. He had asked me to go along but I declined, it would be a pity to spend that money going there and not seeing him hardly at all, and also I think it is good that he has some space away from me. It would have been like if he came along to, say, a knitting week with me!

Anyway, here are my pleasures for today:

1 - DH called me from his holiday to say that he had left some of his equipment in the station by mistake. So I went and it has been found, he will pick it up on his way back home.

2 - I went to a real bread event in a lovely little community cafe (the Hornbeam Centre, where a few months ago we had an OS meet!). Lovely food at incredibly cheap prices and a real sense of community.

3 - Back home, DD's BF has brought back more cakey things from his work as trainee patissier, yummy stuff!

4 - DS is back and he told me he really enjoyed the short break. It is good to have him back home.

5 - It is raining cats and dogs, meaning no need to water the gardens (I was slightly groaning inside at the thought, usually it is DH's job mainly!) and the water tubs are getting refilled.

    Good night everybody xxx

    1 -
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Still struggling to find time to catch up on all the posts. Hopefully will get an hour or so tomorrow.

    1. Usually up early on a Saturday and catch up then but I didn't wake until 9.55. Assumed the clock needed a new battery, went downstairs and it was almost 10am. Haven't slept that late in years but I certainly felt in need of it.
    2. Going to see parents with OH and doing some gardening. Dad is struggling to keep on top of the garden at the moment and mum is unable to help.
    3. Managing to get lots of bits and pieces for DS & GF from Home Bargains and B&M for when they move into their new place hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
    4. DS GF asking me for help yesterday as she was cooking tea. Felt really proud that she felt she could ask me what she could do with a pack of mince and saying she knew I would come up with all sorts of ideas.
    5. DH cooking tea when we got back home today as he knew I was still feeling very tired - wish I knew why especially after sleeping so long last night!
    6. Just had a lovely bath and off to bed shortly.

Night all and have a lovely weekend.
  • Happy Birthday for yesterday Ginny and I hope your week without DH goes quickly Caterina.

    1) Brunch! It's been so long since we were all here on a Saturday morning with time to spare, so we went out to our favourite place for brunch (£21 for four of us - not bad!)
    2) Mooching round the charity shops in town afterwards, trying to walk off some of the above. Found some tights at silly prices and a wind-up alarm clock, which is very pretty in a shabby chic way. Does anyone else like the thought of not paying for batteries?
    3) An hour at the allotment harvesting beetroot, onions, potatoes, lettuce and garlic.
    4) Chilli for tea with homegrown wedges and salad
    5) A bag of Minstrels, shared with DH after tea

Good evening all  - very rare event here today - a whole day without any rain :j

Caterina - you always seem to get to these yummy food events - wish we had similar around here. Only freebie giveaways are usually the sample ladies in Asda on a Saturday afternoon - and I miss out on those as I don't like Saturday afternoon supermarket shopping.
shopndrop - you were probably still tired with the gardening for your parents, shopping for ds/gf and showing gf what to do with mince! Lovely day of self-lessness rewarded by having your tea cooked by your OH ;).
PatchworkQuilt - know exactly what you mean about batteries - trouble is having to remember to wind it up every night before going to sleep . I use the alarm on my mobile phone - it never fails me .

DD in a much better mood today (phew) though I don't give her ex much of a chance when she next sees him.

Promised to take DGD2 off her hands for a few hours tomorrow. DGD1 and DGS1 were a pair of demons today - so she grounded them! BIG MISTAKE as she couldn't get on with anything at all then. She's going to make them help her to sort out tomorrow (only dgd1's and her bedrooms left now) while I've got the other one out of the way!

going to get off to bed early now - got an Agatha Christie beckoning to me from the bedside cabinet . Nitey nite all and sleep well - love Ollie xxx

Good news about your DH living to see another day thrifty, have to admit I did think you were taking your thrifty OS ways too far at first :D
Caterina I love Jenny Joseph's poem, I first heard it in the 1980's recited by a 101 year old lady at a 'do' I had for my then residents. I'll bet my bottom dollar Ollie knows it too :), and isn't there another of us who is in the same line of work? I'm going to live by her words, and like you am practising already . Don't know if I'm brave enough to have my tragus pieced but am thinking a nice wee Star of David tattoo (in memory of my ancestors) wouldn't be offensive...
Kiwi I do admire you, I appreciate that cheese making is hard work but on the couple of occasions I've done it, it was so rewarding
Nitha never beat yourself up over housework, it's like trying to dust the desert. I clean one room a week thoroughly, the others just get a lick and a promise - their turn comes around all too soon anyway!
Hope you're having a good rest Bella, and what are you doing reading this ;)? You're supposed to be on holiday! (Admit I take my lappy when I go away too lol)
    Kittikins wrote:
DD and I spending what felt like ages watching a beautiful butterfly resting on the path this evening after a visit to the library
yes I can see how tiring all that reading must be for a butterfly kittikins ;)
Ollie thank you for the very useful info on prepaying, I'll certainly look on line in the next few days to see what (not if!) we can save. Hope all goes well for your Calamity J, she certainly deserves a break. I've had to pick up the pieces for both DD and DS in the past, I love being a mum
LameWolf your No 1 is truly a blessing at the moment, please tell me where I can get some?! And what are Birsay biscuits, I've not heard of them before
Belated Happy Birthday ginny, sounds like you had a really good one :T. I like Birds custard powder, all the boxes and cans in comes in these days are far too sweet for me
Reverbe my ex OH is delighted re the Fulham win, he's been a stalwart fan ever since, as he puts it, they had two deckchairs for their supporters. It's great to see them reach where they are today

    My 5 for today..

    1. Lost 2 lb in my first week of low fat/sensible eating plan. Not calling it a diet as the very word makes me want to eat more in sheer defiance!

    2. Harvesting my first ever garlic and being very pleased with the result. 10 beautiful bulbs are now drying in my garden shed

    3. Some friends and I are going to a convention in Jersey next March, I managed to book a flight locally for silly money. Now I have to save for the hotel but I've paid a small deposit which will hold in for the time being

    4. State and private pensions went into the bank today, I do love it when the 28 day one catches up with the 31 day one. I just like to see them on line, side by side. How sad is that?!

    5. Am making a conscious effort to save fuel by keeping the tyres to the right pressure, not over filling the boot or the petrol tank, driving at 56.4 or as near as I can! The latest which I read somewhere is not to turn the engine on until I'm ready to move off, and to turn it off the second I pull up at my destination. I don't think it will save more than a teaspoon a month, but they all add up. Hopefully :rotfl:

    Night night all, sweet dreams
