Hi sparrer - spot on - love the jenny joseph poem - we had it printed off and framed for in our lounge at my last scheme .

Here's a link to another one of my favourites: http://www.mamarocks.com/my_get_up_and_go.htm

by the way - :T on the 2lb weight lost - fabulous news. Going to have to really knuckle down with some proper effort to lose weight myself. DS2 and g/f have informed me that they're getting married in June next year. I've got 10 months .................:j:j:j:j:j - that's my exercise for the day :rotfl:.

I'm really sorry everyone, I know it's not an OS 5 but can't send this as a link as I don't know how to do links :rolleyes2. Ollie it's a pome wot I rote as part of a project in my early days as a Warden - long before we were grandly (or is it correctly?) known as Scheme Managers. Names have been changed to protect the guilty...
The Warden
At nine I pipe on for the daily toll
Exchange a few jokes with the wags at Control
Greet the carers, the cleaners, sort post and the like
Then it’s out of the office and into me hike.
With keys, piper box, mobile phone and a smile
I visit the flats, walking mile after mile.
We’ve a mixture of people, most have a good time
And I’ll tell you about us in this little rhyme.
First there’s my mobile, Sally-Ann is her name
Whatever the day brings our Sal’s always game.
She baths, helps at lunch club, gets prescriptions, she shops,
Just like the Wardens, her work never stops.
On Sundays Communion is held in the hall
On Mondays it’s bingo, attended by all.
On Tuesday keep fit- ‘Stretch those muscles girls!’
On Wednesday the hairdresser trims, colours and curls.
On Thursday the rent man joins in coffee morning
On Friday there’s Lunch Club, then feet up and yawning.
On Saturday some will go out to tea
Or look forward to visits from family.
And Sal and I will sit down to discuss
A day trip in the Community Bus.
At flat 10 are the sisters, they’re called June and Freya
The latter’s the elder, though June is much greyer.
Both widows, now living in peace with her sister
Or to quote in their Cockney ‘me ol’ skin’n’blister’.
At flat 9’s little Beth, one hundred years old,
A poet, a reader, eyes sparkling like gold.
She cooks and she cleans, her flat’s a new pin
And she just loves the bingo, she always joins in.
Cyril’s just moved into flat number 4
The others all say he’s a terrible bore
Some think our Cyril’s perhaps slightly mad
But he’s just very lonely – it’s all rather sad.
26 is still empty, no new tenant yet,
We all speculate about who we’ll get.
As I pass I drop a newsletter through
So he or she gets to know what we do.
At 37 lives a Welsh lady, Bronwyn
A round, lively lady who’s seldom in.
She helps out at the Over 60’s club
(and isn’t against a quick nip in the pub!)
Upstairs lives our joker, Northerner Larry
Plays dominos, bowls, and has a canary
Loves a laugh and the bookies for a bit of a flutter
Puts his cloth cap on sideways and acts a real nutter!
Flat 16 I usually leave until last
When doing my round I always go past
Then when everyone’s piled all their problems on me
She welcomes me in for a nice cup of tea.
These folk are just a few in my Scheme
Many have problems, many have dreams
Don’t misunderstand, these aren’t the best
Just because I’ve not mentioned the rest.
They’ve all got their idiosyncrasies
(and arthritis and wrinkles and two gammy knees).
A Wardens job’s tiring, but when the day ends
She can honestly say that she’s spent it with friends.

Courgette - so sorry about your miscarriage. A double whammy like this must have been a real blow. Do look after yourself and take time out to try and come to terms. Hopefully a nice relaxing afternoon with your fiance will do you both good and with an exciting wedding to look forward to, the future will have something good beckoning for you both.

Dear Courgette,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your babies, there are no right words for such a loss and I can only say I think of you (((((((HUGS)))))))

BTW this is the right place for sharing, everybody is ever so kind and loving and it feels like we are a large family of sisters (with the occasional brother thrown in occasionally!).

Dear all

Here I am again today.

Patchwork Quilt, thanks for your good wishes about my week without DH - so far these two days have been ok, I miss him but am also feeling ok in my space, if it makes any sense. I would not want to be too long without him but a few days might not be a bad thing after all. Check me back on Friday (and don't quote if I am whinging, please!).

Ollie, the food events are the upside of living in London, I suppose!

Ollie and Sparrer I loved both poems, they are really great and so much truth in them! BTW Sparrer, well done for your weight loss, I wish I had the willpower to turn away from so much fattening food!

Here are my blessings of the day (some, among so many!):

1 - Finished reading a wonderful book called "Eat, love, pray" by Elizabeth Gilbert - very inspiring, funny and moving, I would strongly recommend it! I am going to lend it to my friend, I know she will love it too!

2 - Got up full of energy, made pancakes for the kids (DS, DD, DD's BF) washed my bedding, cleaned the kitchen, did another wash and went shopping for a few bits and pieces - all in the space of a morning, very unusual for me, especially on a Sunday!

3 - Had lunch with DS and one of his friends in the garden, lovely weather and nice company of young people. DS unusually chatty!

4 - Popped into Sainsburys towards closing time and found quorn sausages, ready mash and box of raspberries, each reduced to 30p. No-brainer dinner tonight!

5 - I got a couple of good treats via my mobile, one is "surprises" unlimited calls to other O2 mobiles - so I am going to talk to DH for a loooooong time tonight! The other is "treats" 20 minutes a month for 3 months to other O2 mobiles and landlines!

Have a great evening all! xxx

(((Hugs))) to Courgette

My five for today are:

1. Feeling in a great frame of mind (not that I am normally a grumpy old bat, you understand, :D but today I really have felt full of zest and zing).

2. A beautiful sunny day here in Bristol, which meant that I could catch a bit of the annual Harbour Festival.

3. Using our wonderful free library resource to get some great books.

4. Making a yummy batch of soya yoghurt which will last me the week.

5. Walking down to the Festival which is about a 4 mile round trip, so getting some exercise in today.

6. Spending time work on my future plans, which include escaping a job that I outgrew light years ago, and which recently has been the source of much stress and upset. I am feeling very happy and optimistic about what the future holds.

7. Researching a local cafe where I can go to start the process of brushing up my rusty Spanish - they hold conversation classes there and maybe I can help somebody with their English in return.

So all in all :D, :j and :T
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Hi guys

Had a weird day today;

1) Free bottle of wine for running an errand for my parents
2) AF finally arrived so I can stop fretting about being pregnant
3) Finally got the washing dry
4) Watching the Royle Family - it always reminds me that you don't need money to be happy, just family
5) Writing down my 'goal' - to be a stay at home mum until my kids are at school. It gives me something to work towards. I need to reduce my outgoings by circa £200.
Taking baby-steps
