Five OS Pleasures in your day today
Comments
-
1. Managing to keep cool in a darkened room during this hot weather.
2. Crocheting a summer top from some age old pink 4ply cotton as I sit.
3. DH and DS 'resting' in the other room, peace, perfect peace.
4. Pears with tinned cream and homemade scones and cakes for tea. Very OS.
5. Happy 'just being'.

Taken my DM back to Oxon today after her week's holiday with me, it's really quiet and I don't like it
Recent blessings...
1.Hitchin market and lunch out, we got lots of 'bargains' - no, really we did
- packs of lace, ribbons and so forth, then a decent lunch of 241 duck salad, yummy
2. Phoned some of my friends who DM is fond of, to invite them for tea but we ended up going there for a barbeque and had a hilarious evening singing rounders of all the old school and skipping songs we could remember
3. Enjoying this amazing weather, sitting in the shade with gallons of factor 40 on, lots of cool drinks, wondering while peeps complain when we get a few days sunshine
. We don't like rain, are caught unawares when it snows (which it does every year), complain about the cold, then when the sun comes out for a little while we whinge even more! We are a funny nation, aren't we?
4. Our village supermarket closed 3 months ago and Mr M opened in its place last week, lots of opening offers and am delighted to see they have fresh meat and fish counters, something we've never had here before.
5. DM offering to pay for me to have a tattoo for my b/day next month! She's 88 and I'm a little bit younger so I was amazed when she said she'd buy it for me...after she'd got over the shock of me saying I want one, then telling her what it's to be
. It's the AA triangle of Recovery, Unity, Service, and will have my DoS (date of sobriety) underneath. My DD said she hopes I don't slip or I'll have to have the date crossed out and a new one underneath - and heaven help us if it's more than once, the dates will reach my fingertips:rotfl:!! Such trust!
Wishing you all a good evening and hugs to everyone

Sparrer the only weather I don't like is the sun. The heat just makes me sleepy and uncomfortable under the skin. I am pleased for it in nature and for people who do like it. But there is little one can do in the heat.I actually like wrapping up when it's cold but one can't take one's skin off (sorry for the mental images there folks) like I ache to do when it's hot.
We can't have the windows open cos of the noise and the flies and people who smoke outside the flatsas not only does it ruin the fresh air factor but the smell of cigarette smoke makes me feel ill , it always has. We cant have cold drinks cos our fridge takes a few days for things to get really cold and ice cubes from our water taste vile.People in the flats below us still have heating on which makes it unbearable.
You do make a good point there about the moaning tho. I just get pleased for people like you who enjoy it. Plus there is good points like you dont feel like eating so it saves money on food n stuff..:DWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Today's pleasures:-
1. Getting the bread made and the ironing done (in my nightie) before the day got too warm.
2. A nice tepid bath when those two jobs were done.
3. DH cleaned the windows. It's wonderful to have help, I feel so much calmer in myself as I was always chasing my tail trying to fit everything in.
4. Sweet peas brought in from the garden making the house smell lovely.
5. Don't have to water the garden tonight as we had a downpour earlier.

Mine for both yesterday and today
1) Lie in and the morning spent just plodding in the house
2) Singing along and dancing around to Madness on the TV at Glastonbury
3) Sitting in the sun and re-potting some of the veggies that are growing in our garden
4) Homemade pizza and potato wedges for tea – so much cheaper than the takeaway and was just as nice
5) Receiving good customer service in a shoe shop after visiting two others were the staff didn’t seem to want to help.
6) Buying two pairs of shoes – not my usual style but the colours are nice and they felt so comfy
7) Chatting to DM on phone
8) Eating dinner “al fresco” and spending the rest of the evening sat in the garden with DH, chatting and reading. Very relaxing and made a lovely change from sitting in front of TV0 -
Over the weekend....
1. Finding out from my landlord I don't have to pay a water bill.
2. Checking my meter reading and realising I've only used £30 or less electric in 2 months not the £60 I was expecting.
2. Buying my first things from Aldi, pesto, sundried tomatos etc as a treat - so cheap!
3. Cleaning student rooms (gross and hard work) and being allowed to keep loads of news and second hand stuff including enough to make two goody bags for birthdays/xmas, a beautiful purse, a Ben Sherman belt, a Miss Selfridge top, two new cooking tins and a lot more saving me prob £30 if I'd bought it at cheap car boot prices!
4. Signing up to 3 college courses/qualifications starting in Sept for £196, a saving of £417!!!! because I'm unemployed and being told that me starting work tomorrow means the discount still applies as I was on Job Seekers the day I enrolled!!!!
5. Being given a bottle of ecofriendly washing up liquid.
6. Finding about 20p worth of loose change.
7. Eating my homegrown stawberries and watching my balcony veg grow...
Great week :ASaving for my future...0 -
Where is everyone?Today I have:-1. Made up a batch of marmalade from a tin. Rather a hot and steamy job for a hot a steamy day, but I did it early on and it's a good job done.2. Shortened a dress that I bought ages ago very cheaply but it was far too long for me. It is cool cotton and ideal for the heatwave, so another good job done.3. Eaten yet another salad from the garden. I have not bought any salad for weeks now as my container grown mixed leaves provide us with something every day.4. Sat in front of a wide open window and made cards.5. Eaten new potatoes (sack grown). Just one more sack to 'crack' open, but then I wanted them all finished by the time we go on hols, in 4 weeks time.A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth. I have had a lovely day0 -
Hi everyone
Back again after a hectic couple of weeks. My five are:
1. Being invited to telecommute on a part time basis for my old company - I retired three years ago, so was very flattered to be asked. Able to work at home, as many hours as I like, and negotiated a very fair wage.
2. OH has recovered so well from his cancer operation that he has decided to enter an International game fishing tournament in Tonga in October, so he is on a fitness regime to recover his strength.
3. Very cold wet weather here, so I feel totally justified in keeping the log burner going all day.
4. Intend to spend the day setting the house to rights.
5. Despite it being mid winter, there are still enough roses and carnations in bloom in the garden for me to pick a huge vase full.
Blessings be
