Five OS Pleasures in your day today

Rhiwfield you did exactly the right thing, you didn't know the circumstances and you'd not have been able to forgive yourself if you'd done nothing. I think you're marvellous to find some blessings in an otherwise traumatic day, helped by the lovely family you have around you. Thinking of the little 2 y/o with the cucumber puts things into perspective, doesn't it?
Far too warm to sleep (even I feel it just occasionally), but as I'm one of those who enjoys retirement I can do some housework and other chores now while it's cool, and lay in in the morning as long as I want - if the animals don't disturb me of course
Wednesday blessings -
1. Having my first cuppa in the garden and enjoying the early morning air. There's a lot to be said for watering at 10pm so I can enjoy the freshness in the morning. I'm just waiting for the inevitable hose-pipe ban, but I've saved some 6-pint milk containers and fill them throughout the day with any waste water which would otherwise go down the drain.
2. The washing drying on the line in an hour - we may wash clothes more often in warm weather but it's a real blessing to be able to hang it out. No tumble dryer in this house now the family has grown and flown
3. Driving along with the windows wound down, feeling the breeze and singing my head off to a Michael Buble CD. No air con or electric windows in my car, less to go wrong I think
4. Appreciating the prices now Mr S/field has departed, I can now shop locally a little more rather than having to drive 8 miles to a decent supermarket, which was hardly cost-effective before the advent of Mr M - and although they've only been open a week they already have a well stocked YS shelf.:T
5. Finding a suction hand rail in a charity shop for the over-bath shower, which means I don't have to drill holes only to find it's not in the most convenient place.
Hope everyone is managing to sleep in this warm weather, hugs and blessings to you all

rhiwfield what a shock I hope you are ok now and that your neighbour is recovering.{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}} to you both.
SO far today
1. A delicious breakfast of tropical fruits, sliced and cubed, displayed nicely on the table and accompanied by a small amount of bran flakes, fat free yoghurt and honey. I fel so blessed to have these foods available to me.
2."talking" to my sons via email
3. DH is tiling the floor, I've waited 4 years for this, we got rid of a hideous red carpet which came with the house when we moved in. Its taken 4 years to save for the tiles and cement. The sitting room will look positively colonial. I'm so happy.
4. Its warm [hot!] the grass is growing and the hedges too, flowers blooming, oh joy of joys
5. the washing machine has done a load of washing, how great not to have to do it all by hand."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -
1) Eating raspberries from my garden with homemade yogurt for breakfast.
2) Picking the last of the gooseberries and the first of the blackcurrants.
3) My washing all being dry by 11 o'clock.
4) Andy Murray getting through to the semi-finals tomorrow:j
5) Watching this clip of David Essex and feeling all fluttery inside:o don't you just love Youtube?:) Enjoy.
Edit: Just remembered another one. I borrowed this book Sucking Eggs from my library. It is right up my street. It's all about how we coped with rationing, digging for victory and the war on waste during the war. But it is more than just history, the author Patricia Nicol has plenty of suggestions for how we can use those skills to live a greener, thriftier and more sustainable life today. Check it out;)0 -
Not feeling quite so chirpy today after totting up the cost of our day out yesterday and realising that we had spent half our month's 'happy money' on one outing. The cost of the petrol pushed up the price, don't think we've ever costed it out that closely before but now we've got too.
So looking on the bright side here are today's pleasures:-
1. Having the time not to rush about in this hot, hot weather.
2. A lovely salad lunch with cold frittatta saved from last night's meal.
3. Realising that the top I was crocheting was not coming up to size and taking it undone to re-do - because I can.
4. Planning some really cheap outings - free bus and free swimming - I'll get the hang of this someday.....,
5. A glowing end of year report from school for DGS (10) scored very well on accademic achievement and more importantly personality.

Had a lovely day today at the annual agricultural show:
1) On the drive there we drove through a jet of water from a farmer's sprayer and we drove through with our windows open which had us all (me, DH & DS's) screaming with laughter.
2) DS1's excitement when he saw all the things to do at the show - he had expected it to be "some boring food thing"!
3) Collecting as many free pens, stickers, balloons, free food and drink samples, etc as we could - reminded me of when we used to go on school trips to events like this.
4) Met Dolly from 'Jimmy's Farm'. We had a lovely chat about keeping ex-battery hens.
5) DS1 has recently decided that he wants to be a policeman and had a great time talking to the police at the Norfolk Constabulary stall. While DS2 enjoyed sitting on the huuuge police motor bike.

4. I've got all his washing done, just have to dry it nowso hoping it'll stay dry overnight & tomorrow morning.
5. A lovely cool bath before I went out.
Love to all that need it right now.0 -
I don't usually post on this but today I feel like it
1) The sun, I always feel happy when the sun is shining
2) The laugh we had a work, its really hot in our office and our manager went and got squirty bottles from the store (given to cleaners, we are a cleaning contractors) so we could fill them with cold water from the water cooler and squirt ourselves, dunno what anyone would have made of it if they had come in, all these women drippin' wet
3) Extra laugh when said manager picked mine up and said its lovely when you spray in on your hair, trouble was mine was not set to spray, jet of water hit my head and dripped down, I now have a lovely clean keyboard :rotfl:
3 1/2) The look on her face when this happened and the laughter from the rest of office
4) Having a conversation with my son on the phone that lasted for longer that 20 seconds, he is going away on holiday with his fiancee and family at weekend and although he is 23 and trying to sound cool you could hear the excitment in his voice (first time abroad...don't ask, the ex did not like sun so we never went)
5) Having a lovely cold glass of wine when I got in from the hothouse, and thanks to me lovely OH for buying it for me yesterday.whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

Alia Idaho are you a Dune fan, by any chance? Snap!
1) Getting the housework done while it was still cool, then going to Mr T's, which was air-conditioned, to do the weekly shop.
2) Spending the afternoon with DD, mooching around the charity shops
3) Dying some of my inexpensive finds from the charity shops to make a couple of matching outfits (black - it's so hard to be smart for work and cool at the same time)
4) A walk down to the local pub for one drink with DH. It's just opened, which seems like a miracle in the current climate. We saw two families we knew within about 10 minutes.
5) The spag bol DD made for tea has stretched to 9 portions!0
