    My 5 for today are:

    1. Going out with my friend for a mooch round town. No money spent and we got books from the library too :money:

    2. An old friend who I'd lost touch with has found me again on Facebook.

    3. Getting some florists cellophane for my Mum's birthday hamper. It only cost £1 and she threw a bow in for free :D

    4. DH has replaced the fence panels in the back garden. It looks so much neater now that they aren't all tatty. We had 3 bikes stolen last year and the culprits pulled them over the fence to get them out  and runied it.

    5. The dog escaped twice while the above work was going on. The relief when we found him was a pleasure indeed.

    Blessings to everyone this evening.

@ Patchwork Quilt " This is one of those days where nothing seems to have happened but it's still been a good one, if you know what I mean " hehe oh yes I DO ! I love those kinds of days, I don't get enough of 'em what with work ! I don't always find my " five a day " and sometimes its a struggle but its very beneficial to jot them down when I do, and look at others' :)

    Today's five :

    1) ANOTHER lie in ! Oh I do love BH weekends, I may still have to work the actual weekend but I so appreciate having the Monday & Tuesday off all in one go.

    2) Postie had left a parcel cunningly hidden amongst the overgrown ivy outside my front door ( maybe I shouldn't get it cleared away after all, LOL ) which was a gorgeous big green glass fishing float I'd bought off eBay for a couple of quid. Spent a happy hour amusing myself with it - so lovely and cool and smooth to hold, and great to hold up to the light and see the world all green through it.

    3) Nice sunny blustery walk down to the local shops. Good ol' browse through the charity shops - picked up a Staffordshire Midwinter plate for a £1 and a local history book for a £1 also, and a big pillarbox red enamel teapot in Bert's Homesetores for £5.99 - looks so cheerful and homely and must hold about 12 cups worth - will be just right to use for tenants' tea parties.

    4) made a delicious potato salad from leftover boiled new spuds from yesterdays dinner, a mix of low fat mayo and greek yoghurt along with chopped spring onions and a bit of fresh lemon balm from the garden. YUM !

    5) for the fourth day running have kept on top of the washing up ( my bete noire ) so will treat myself to a nice long soak in the bath later along with the smug glow of domestic satisfaction :D
" Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.. "

    My pleasures today:-

    1. DD and DGK's came for coffee and scones but as I had no scones I managed to find just enough mixed berry muffins in the freezeer.

    2. Had DGD for the morning so we did the library and the play area in the park and walked home with bags of shopping for tea.

    3. Were joined this afternoon by DGS who amused himself with anything electronic he could find while I did crafting with DGD.

    4. Later we were joined by their parents for a chicken dinner.

    5. Large chicken on offer cost very little more than a small one, so I have lots of LO chicken to play with.

    Here's mine from yesterday:
    1) Picking DS1 up from scout camp - yay! He had the best time EVER. Was lovely to hear his excited chattering on the long drive home.
    2) While we waited for the day to pass so we could pick up DS1, I took DS2 to play at his friend's house while me and his mum (also friends) chatted and had a nice lunch.
    3) Rhubarb plant, a grassy plant and some plastic netting given to me by his mum.
    4) A lovely OS potato and bacon bake for tea with a very happy re-united family.
    5) Springwatch!

Hello  and welcome BigMummaF - always lots of space for another in this thread :j. I found that my kids became far more tolerant of each other as they all got older too - mind you that was after they had moved out  - funnily enough my mum says exactly the same about myself and my sisters/brother :o. But it is a sign that family life is a constant change. You must be doing something right if they ain't flew the nest yet :T.

Welcome back, KarrieBee - you just ignore that OH of yours if he takes the mick out of your 'lists'! We all know what their packing would look like if they were in charge of a camping trip - 1pr socks, 1pr undies, 2 t-shirts, box of beefburgers, bag of bread rolls, 4 trays lager, 1 i-pod/mp3 player - followed by the phrase 'Oh dear, I've forgotten the tent!' on arrival !

Thanks for the info on Bill Oddie, Reverbe :T.

I'm with you on the hormones , Caterina - still tweezering here .......... and congratulations on your 'posh afternoon tea party' what a beautiful civilised treat :T. Enjoy your trip and safe journey!

Sounds as though missing the bus and staying home was the first of many blessings of the day, jollymummy :D. All that fun to be had without having to brave the bus queues :j.

Enjoy your reunion with school friend, Patchwork - I don't live in my childhood hometown, so never meet up with any of old friends which is a great shame.

:T on getting your fence secured, SunnyGirl - hopefully that'll be the end of the intruders. I know that feeling of having something stolen from your home and it isn't a good one. We were brought up with 'Is it yours? No? Then don't touch!!!!' I just don't understand this attitude of 'I want - so I'll take'.

I do miss 'tenants' tea parties', kittyscarlett. My new scheme doesn't have a 'community room' which makes 'Encouraging Socialising' a bit difficult. That new teapot sounds just right for brightening up the table :).

Those are the kind of days that I'm looking forward to after retirement, Bella - love having my dgk's round :)! Hope by then, they'll still want to spend time with their old Narnie :rotfl:.

Good to see that your son enjoyed his Scout Camp, Blimus :).

Well done, fiveyearplan - admire your No.3 - wish I could do the same. My dk's aren't very imaginative when it comes to pressies and keep giving me yummy choccies. I've got two boxes of the darn things in the wardrobe - trying to be 'out of sight, out of mind'.

Not much for me for yesterday at all - first day back at work and all that :(.

    1. Managed to finish off all the laundry from our holiday - AND got it dry outdoors.
    2. NSD - chips, egg and baked beans for evening meal.
    3. Found some cooked chicken pieces in the freezer (from a roast chicken the day before we went away) - will 'do something' with it for tonight's meal - something with pasta and sauce probably.
    4. Visit from DS1 yesterday morning for his usual breakfast/chat catchup session.
    5. Visit from DS2 with dgs's 2&3 in the afternoon. His OH was at Uni for the day and he couldn't get on with anything towards their imminent move (imminent as in today!) as he had both children to contend with. He raided my supply of Home-made celery soup (first attempt) and then left with my new holdall - they go on holiday tomorrow. Moving house today, going on holiday tomorrow - don't make life easy for themselves do they!
    6. Put a request on Freecycle for DS2 for a cooker - feels a bit cheeky, but I have passed on things from him in the past. Fingers crossed as they're moving out of rented accomm (with white goods) to their own home for the first time.

Will call in again later in the day to see how everybody else is doing today. Speak later - love Ollie xxx

Yesterday I had the pleasure of:-
    1. An unexpected lay-in as No1 didn't want to wake me :o I'm usually first up around 6:15 each morning & I remember listening to the news on the radio.....:p
    2. Finding that elusive web-site I read something on a couple of weeks back, then moved on without realising I would want it again
    3. Wandering around THREE garden centres but still only buying what I had intended :D
    4. A lovely tea & cake break, sitting in the sun & surrounded by amazing topiary & gentle waterfall feature. We wold have stayed longer but the tea room wanted to close
    5. Spending this special time with my mum!
    Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;
loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

    Hi everybody
Thank you all for all of the posts and keeping the thread going. I haven't deserted, just had a very hectic but beautiful few days. Welcome back Ollie :hello:, so good to see you again - it sounds as though you're back in the swing already, isn't it a pity we can't have a few days at the end of a holiday to mull it all over without interruption of horrid things like work?!

    Recent blessings...

    1. Having 12 y/o DGD2 to stay until yesterday when she was supposed to be going home on Monday - an extra day to enjoy her company. She now has to sleep in my bed as she's 5'6" (no, not a typo and we don't know when she's going to stop growing but her Daddy is 6'4") and I'm only 5', so I get the junior bed in the guest room now

    2. Making burgers instead of going to a fast food restaurant. She's grown out of them now and much prefers to cook at home, very conscious of what goes into processed foods. Well done parents and schools for leading them in the right direction

    3. Raspberries and cream for afters, yummy (even if the cream did undo our healthy start to the meal)

    4. A friend visited for the day on Monday, a mature lady who's such fun, she's so good at bringing herself down to the age level of the children she's around that they adore her. What a marvellous gift. She's just bought a smart convertible so after lunch the three of us went for a spin through Bedfordshire, I don't know the north of the county but found it very beautiful, very 'Cotswold' in appearance. We stopped at a quaint village and walked a little way, a heron flew not 6 feet above our heads, stopped on a bridge to play pooh sticks and watched dragon flies dancing among the reeds. Later stopped at a country park with a well-stocked lake, it was hilarious watching the different varieties of ducks bobbing down for their tea. I didn't know the breeds all have their own very individual way of 'bobbing' :D

    5. On Tuesday, DGD2 planted some hazel nuts, hoping they'll grow to match the chestnuts she potted last year. They're now 15" tall so we've to find a nice bit of woodland to plant them in before long ;)

    6. Sitting in the sunshine sewing. Sorry to everyone who had rain on Tuesday, it was a lovely sunny day here :p

    7. Being invited to dinner when I took DGD2 home

    8. Waking up this morning to find it had rained in the night so the garden has had a good watering

    9. Not having any commitments today, just a day when I can do what I want at my leisure. Even in retirement those days don't seem to come often!

    10. Just heard that DGD1 has passed the theory part of her driving test

Enjoy the rest of the day everyone, God bless

    My 5 today are:

    • Got a hair appointment – not very OS but I haven’t been in ages and getting rid of the grey streak will make me feel about 10 years younger – im 28 and going grey……..not good but at least I can dye it!
    • My DH has half term off and in his words will make me ‘a dinner fit for a queen’ when I come home!!! But it’s a surprise!!! Exciting stuff!
    • Yesterday I saw a dozen or so long tailed tits in the tree outside the window at work - for the first time ever, I love bird watching and have always wanted to see long tailed tits cos their beaks are so small and they look so fluffy and tiny, and they were just as perfect as they looked in the book!!! A real treat!
    • Hoping to get a call soon from a jeweller who will buy my old gold – I weighed the gold and it was 570 grams, a calculator online said that if that is all 9k gold, im due £4000 – ill bet its all crappy tin though – still I dreamed my aerobics class away thinking about what id buy for £4k!
    • Got a lovely email from some friends in Spain who had rehomed a stray dog we found whilst staying in Spain a few years ago. They took her in and took such great care of her, we saw them in Feb and the dog is really lively and happy – not like the terrified pup we found. They even sent us a wedding present – they truly are lovely people and I cant wait to see them all again. Fingers crossed my old gold will buy 2 tickets to Alicante!
    • Cheering on Barcelona tonight in the Champs league – I cant stand Man Utd, so I shall be an honorary Barca fan tonight – may put a bet on Man Utd winning so that I win either way
    • Have a magazine waiting for me at home – its only Heat mag, but I like trashy gossip!
    have a good day all!

    1. A very quiet day today.

    2. Making Apple and Mint chutney.

    3. Giving a jar of chutney to my hairdresser, just a youngster who doesn't know anyone else who makes chutney. Obviously never been on here.

    4. Forgetting to do the ironing, well there's always tomorrow.

    5. Shepherd's pie with the last of Sunday's lamb.
