Five OS Pleasures in your day today

hello all - lovely to read of your pleasures folks. Big welcome to returnees and to new friends on here.
My pleasures for today:
1. Sitting on a bench at the riverside pub with a plate of sandwiches with Dh and watching 2 swans flying up the river.
2. Seeing a little kiddie 'steering' a boat and thinking he was in charge - so cute - he was so serious!
3. Pleasant shower of rain this evening meant that the wonderful smells of wet grass came wafting in the kitchen window. We haven't had rain for a while and the garden needs it.
4. Long afternoon sleep which was restorative - woke with my young dog's wet nose in my ear
5. All packed now ready for my Scotland trip to see DD (24) and DS (22).
Back in just under a week. Hoping you all encounter many pleasures in the week ahead

Morning all, welcome to newbies and welcome back to those who haven't been around recently. So good to see this thread back on track again.
1. Lots of gardening all weekend, now have weed free borders.
2. Planting out all my bedding plants.
3. Finished planting all the veg seedlings and neighbour offered me some more lettuce seedlings which I accepted as I have used most of the lettuce that we planted as we both take a salad to work most days.
4. All washing dried outside and all ironed last night.
5. Knowing it is only a very short week at work, due to the Bank Holiday and the roads will be quiet on the way to work.0 -
Many thanks for your kind 'welcome backs' - much appreciated and I have missed you guys recently.
Great news about your card, kittyscarlett :j - and oh boy do I recognise the feeling about 'the door knocking' I get it all the time as well. Even had phone calls while away on hols from family members asking me to 'pop in' - told them it would take me around 10 hours to get there, but would try my best.
Good to hear your dad is back driving again, Sunny Girl, and on the road to recovery.
Hello  and welcome to Rainbowchild - sounds like you've had a productive weekend - laundry, drawer sorting and heavy gardening - you well-deserved your takeaway and BGT evening :j.
Oh drat, I forgot about Springwatch  - wonder if I can catch it somewhere else. Thanks for the reminder, Primrose - sounds like you're enjoying your garden at the moment - plus an OH who can make strawberry tarts .
Well done on your M&S shopping trip, Caterina - and hope you have a wonderful trip to Italy to visit your DM.
Sounds like a wonderful time had by all at 'Casa Bella' this weekend - company of good friends is something to be treasured. And good friends who come bearing the fruits of their own labours to share are always extra welcome :j.
My idea of 'sunday heaven', scrummy-mummy - especially the choccie eating after the kids have gone beddy-byes :rotfl:.
Sorry to hear that Bill Oddie's had to go back into a clinic for his depression. Such a shame that a guy who can bring so much joy to lots of people with his personality can suffer so much internal sorrow/angst - let's hope he's feeling some peace within himself.
Well done on getting on the allotments waiting lists, jollymummy - hoping that some of those 'also waiting' lose interest and your turn comes along a little quicker.
I guess you're well into autumn in NZ, kiwi - well done on your knitting. I'm sure your OH and dgd appreciate the hand-made sweaters.
Lovely gesture re the knee blanket, Patchwork and a great way to use up oddments of wool. Also a great way to keep your own knees warm in the winter months while crocheting at the same time.
What a lovely Sunday afternoon, wmf. Enjoy your trip to Scotland :j.
Hi shopndrop - missed your post then while I was doing my own. I see you're another one who's had a busy gardening weekend. I'm also grateful for a 4-day week this week - still need to recover from my holiday.
1. Spent the day with two of my dgs's - Dylan (7) and Billy (9mths). Started with a bus trip to Liverpool. Sort of a treat, as they normally go everywhere by car, but Dylan soon got fed-up due to the length of time that the bus took.
2. A joy to discover that their mother had packed a bag of 'home-made' meals for Billy - baked beans in an old Heinz jar with home-made mushy fruit salad for lunch followed by 'roast dinner' (peas, broccoli, mash, tiny amount of meat and gravy) with more fruit salad for evening meal plus a banana for snack. That child will probably 'poop' for England today  - but so good to see that it wasn't a bag full of jars of ready made foods. He's milk/lactose intolerant so we do have to be very careful about what he eats.
3. Watching Dylan choosing something in Argos to spend his own money on and wanting to get full vfm - that's my lad :j.
4. Taking them both on the Mersey River Cruise - not terribly OS (OR Money-saving ) but it occupied part of the day and kept us out of the drizzle that started late-afternoon. May have been better to have gone in the museum for free though .
5. A very crowded bus journey back again but Billy was charming everybody around him with smiles even though he was getting bags and jackets pushed into his pushchair most of the time.
6. Unexpected phone call from DS2 to say that he, his dgf and my OH were on their way back and bringing Chinese Banquet with them for our evening meal - so no cooking for Ollie last night :j.
Hope everybody has a great OS money-saving day ahead and that we can all perhaps enjoy a little sunshine at sometime today.
speak later - love Ollie  xxx0 -
1. Waking up to rain. The water butts are full again and the lawns were starting to look very dry. Perversely I have an automatic watering system installed for my vegetable areas but I rather enjoy watering manually with the hose round the roots. It gives me time to stand and stare and inspect my growing plants up close.
2. Another pack of mixed soft fruit removed from the freezer to mix in with a milky jelly. Our freezer seems to be like the biblical well which never dries up. No matter how much stuff I keep removing to use it up, the empty spaces never seem to get any bigger. (Do you think the packets are quietly breeding in the night?:rotfl:
3. Washing done and drying on the roll-away lines in the bathroom and all bedrooms dusted. Now I can coast on housework for the rest of the week!0 -
*Knocks quietly* May I join you? I've always been 'accused' of never letting things get me down, but sometimes it's good to see your 'achievements' in black & white as it were----makes them more real. I don't know that I shall have much to say every day, but that will only add to the fun
This week-end, I have had the pleasure of seeing:-
1. My [three] adult offspring co-operate--no mean feat when there's less than four years twix eldest & youngest & they all still live at home!--on major horticultural beautification:rotfl:
2. The [STRIKE]jungle[/STRIKE] back garden has been restored to some normality that [STRIKE]should[/STRIKE] WILL be easier to keep under control.
3. The look of bewilderment on Pup's face as his adventure playground disappeared in piles of clippings...bless him!...but also the fun he had with all the new smells.
4. The simple things still providing the most enjoyment in my children, as we built our own bacon cheese burgers for tea
5. My mum & sharing a cuppa in the supermarket.
Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

hi to all you 5 a dayers! I've had a quick squiz through all the posts - so much has happened i'll just have to send a big hug to all and catch up properly later! i've been away for so long i'm embarassed to check the actual date when i last posted but i had such a lovely OS weekend full of blessings it spurred me on!
1. Hopping on our local train to a campsite we booked on the spur of the moment on Friday night.
2. Realising that we had everything we needed and nothing we didn't - to think OH mocked my list of stuff to pack!
3. Sitting looking at the beautiful views of the Yorkshire countryside, listening to the birds and watching 2 swallows swoop over the field
4. the really friendly welcome from the farmers who own the camping field
5. Going for a great walk through hills, woods and streams - and actually being able to read the map and help out some other walkers who'd got lost.
6. lounging around when we got back complete with sunday papers and a cuppa made on the campingaz
7. meeting some lovely people who were also using the site, there were only 4 caravans and our wee tent and it had such a nice atmosphere
8. having hot chocolate and marshmallows and watching the sunset
9. the fact that we had such a lovely weekend with no hot water or electrical items- just good weather, good company and good food and it only cost £4 a night!
10. Getting home before the rain started and cuddling up with a book and the cat and having a little nap on the sofa!
blessings to allWhatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!'0 -
.
5. Will be watching Spring Watch tonight and seeing how Bill Oddie's replacement fares. Never did find out why he left the programme. Would I be right thinking it's the BBC being ageist again?.
Bill hasn't actually left Springwatch. He suffers from depression lifelong on and off and often checks into rehab to kinda recharge his batteries etc. He is currently suffering and this is why he isnt in the show this time round. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Hi all
Since I have been working on the PC today, before logging off I have decided to come in and put my five for today!
1 - Very reasonably priced threading of my chin hair (it was becoming really very visible and was getting me down - bl**dy hormones, who'd have them....).
2 - Freebie Crussh strawberry smoothie, courtesy of Time Out, really delicious!
3 - 3 Baby Gap hats bought to take to Italy for the three babies of the family, 30% discount, courtesy of Grazia voucher.
4 - Came home to find my DD had cooked lunch for me too, a lovely pasta with courgette and tomato sauce, yummy!
5 - Thanks to my kind OS friend who gave me the link, I booked for posh cream tea for all the family at the Cavendish Hotel in Central London (at £10 per person, what a bargain!), to celebrate my DD and DS's 20th birthday. We are planning to dress up and be "proper, like" LOL that'll be fun!
So many more blessings, not enough time to put them all in, going to prepare my luggage now!
Love to all, see you in a couple of weeks' time
Caterina xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

This is one of those days where nothing seems to have happened but it's still been a good one, if you know what I mean
1) Finished the crochet whilst listening to all my OU dvds back to back. It had to be done at some point
2) Coffee with DS in the coffee shop that DD works in
3) Bargains from charity shops - £12 dress that should have been £70, new with tags on, for DD going out tonight and a pair of heels for me (not had a pair for years) for £7,both good brands
4) Leftover chicken for tea with rice and salad bits. Also Australian Crunch (Bero) for afters
5) Unexpectedly meeting a school friend in the street. They were on their way to the station but we'll see each other soon0
