Five OS Pleasures in your day today

  • For yesterday

    1) Collecting half a pig from the butcher and stashing it in my freezer.

    2) Bought some forced pink rhubarb from the farmshop, grown not too far away. I diced and cooked it with some sugar and put it in a bright pink bowl. It looks fantastic. Just had some for breakfast with hm yogurt.

    3) Getting the washing out - but having to bring it in by 3pm as it had clouded over and wasn't going to get sunny again. Think I might have better luck today.

    4) I think my early daffs are going to flower soon -I hope.

    5) Have booked our summer holiday (not very OS). Pleased with myself as I managed to do it in French.....yes, we are going to France, a gite in Normandy for a week.
  • Sunnygirl, sorry about your Dad. I think maybe it is a good sign that he is responding and speaking so soon.

Hi to all newbies, you've come to the right place to brighten your day.

    Yesterdays pleasures:-

    1. Hanging the washing on the line - and it dried.:j

    2. Seeing the crocuses in bloom after the two weeks they spent under the snow.

    3. Jenny Wren is very busy in my garden - nestbuilding?

    4. Making the second yummy meal for me and DH from a YS beef post-roast which cost two pounds. If I had been really keen I could have stretched it to three but decided to have a treat and gorge.

    5. Sowing sweet pea seeds from a free packet on the AG magazine.

    Bella.

Sunnygirl - hope your Dad is continuing to improve.
It is good to see so many people posting their blessings - I love reading this thread and it always makes me try to focus on what's good in my life rather than dwelling on problems.

    1. Seeing my rhubarb starting to sprout - I can taste the first crumble already!!
    2. Noticing daffodils if full bud in a neighbours garden - spring must most definitely be on way.
    3. Being asked to babysit 11 yr old DGS - that means he gets to thrash me on the Wii machine at bowling!!
    4. Making Twinks hobnob biscuits yesterday for the first time - and tasting that they are as absolutely delicious as everyone says! Think they will become a regular here now.
    5. Finding the 'finishing off ' items I wanted among my own collection of "stuff" for my study - double pleasure there - it looks great and cost me nowt!

    Have a lovely weekend everyone.

    Hi all

Thanks for good wishes I am now almost 100% recovered and 100% painkiller-fre (what a relief, I shall never take my health for granted again!).

Sunnygirl, warmest wishes for your dad's speedy recovery (((HUGS)))

Ampersand and others: I am looking forward to having news of Kiwiblue, I really miss her beautiful and inspirational posts. I hope all is well with her and her DH!

    Yesterday's five:

1 - Sunshine on my face as I walked across the heath with my friend

2 - Cup of tea and cake at cafe with her too!

3 - Back home, not feeling very well, DS brought me a cup of camomile tea in bed and sat and chatted with me, he is so sweet when he wants to be!

4 - Finished reading Nella Last's Peace. Great stuff!

5 - Started reading The 40's House (based on the BBC programme). Also very interesting, but not as much as the real diaries, but on the positive side it has a lot of pictures too, which give me more of an idea of how it was.

Wouldn't it be great if we all could get back to the wartime habits (minus the war, bombs and killings - or bossyboots old bats in uniform - of course)? Perhaps this is the sort of thing that the Transition Towns movement will bring, now with Credit Crunch and Peak Oil being the Enemy!

    Today's five:

1 - Long lie in (up after 10!)

2 - Tea and toast in bed courtesy of DH who got up extra-early to get some work done before going into the office.

3 - Shopping done and managed to save some money with the nectar points I had accumulated.

4 - Camembert and pickle sandwich, blueberry soya yogurt for lunch. I was really craving pickle - I am sure I am not pregnant, though! :rotfl:

5 - DS and his friends are going to make pizza from scratch today, I am really looking forward to tasting some, he is usually a very good cook.

    Have a great day, all!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I have only have one for today. My darling Dad had a stroke yesterday & is in hospital having lost his speech. He has survived so far & said 'hi' today & waved when we left.

Hugs to SunnyGirl, as another poster said an MRI scan will hopefully show what caused it, eg a clot or a bleed. There's a useful book caused "The Diary of a Stroke" about a Headmaster who recovered from his mobility and speech problems. Know this is scary but see if you can get this from the library. Best of luck.

I have lurked on this thread for a while and thought how nice it is, so even though I feel a bit weak today, here's mine:

    - going for a walk for some fresh air (and a little bit of sunshine)
    - just finished a nice cup of coffee
    - switching off lights/appliances knowing it's cutting costs and do a bit for the environment (our gas bill is in credit, woo hoo!)
    - avoiding unwanted/unnecessary/awkward to get offers for the sake of it. I love moneysaving & there's a free pashmina offer tomorrow, I'd love it but there's no TieRack nearby and so, I won't gallivant around in my car to get it, I'll let someone else enjoy it ;)
    - let myself have a nap this afternoon :A

  • Hi all
Thanks so much for your kind messages and support. Have had computer access problems, our village has its own tiny broadband system which is manned by volunteers, so if something goes wrong it can be a while before we are connected again. One of the pleasures of living in a remote area!
OH is ok, he has a major operation scheduled in mid March, so we are living day to day at the moment. Anyway my five are

    1. The support and strength that I get from your kind wishes, it really, really does make a difference.

    2. Spending a couple of days with OH at our house on the lake (Taupo). It was so quiet and peaceful, coffee on the deck, listening to the tui's and watching the lake water - soul enhancing.

    3. Coming home and being greeted by a very enthusiastic dog, a cat that deigned to come and sit in my lap, and three chickens that didn't seem to realise I had been away.

    4. Going to a great restaurant with OH and really enjoying a fine meal, complete with zucchini drizzled with olive oil and slivered almonds, definitely an idea I will be copying.

    5. Bringing home some loquats and making jelly, this is a new fruit for me, am interested to see how it will turns out.

Once again, thanks so much for your kind support

    Blessings be
    Jennie
  • hi all
    my 5 for today are;
    1) Being woken up by my 2yr old ds who marched into our room this morning announcing top of voice "Im here everybody" - well he had just spent his first night in his own bed in his own room - bless him - that image kept me going all day.
    2) Managing to throw together a decent barley & turkey soup & cooking it in the sc despite not having much ingredients - It served 4 & recieved compliments too.
    3) Taking advantage of weather & getting loads of washing dried outside.
    4) Watchin the bunnies hopping about in the garden
    5) Looking forward to another night of having the bed back to ourselves
( :o No not like that Id be more than happy just to read a book & get a decent nights sleep!)

Have a blessed weekend all x

Welcome back to the world of the Internet, kiwiblue.
Congratulations, Caterina - must feel good to be pain-free. Hope you get a full night's sleep.
Good Luck for tonight, scousewife - fingers crossed that he stays in his own room/bed again .

    1. Woken by Tiggy-tiger this morning - he had heard the alarm go off and wondered why I didn't immediately jump up to feed him. Ain't that cat ever heard of 'snooze buttons'!

    2. Managed to bake a delicious Fruit Tea Loaf AND a Lemon Drizzle Cake this morning.

    3. Had the pleasure of helping to show a prospective new tenant around an empty apartment this morning. He was delighted and accepted the property - so a new member to join our small community :D.

    4. Home-made Carrot & Butterbean Soup for lunch - mmmmmmm.

    5. Beans and Poached Egg on Toast for evening meal today.

    6. Visit from DS2 with dgs2 (little Billy-blue-eyes age 6mths) to look after for a couple of hours this evening. He was hilarious in his Tippee-toes (similar to the old 'baby bouncers' that we used to hang from door-frames).

    7. Hoping to get the grass cut this weekend - as long as the rain holds off on Sunday.

I'm off to bed now - my book awaits :D. Nitey nite .
