Five OS Pleasures in your day today
Comments
-
Thursday blessings here:
1. Having half an hour chatting to all 4 kids seperately so they all got a bit of one on one time.
2. A nice hot bath and pj's on to watch ER on tv with dd.
3. Spending the morning with my friend who I haven't seen for a week.
4. Cuddling with both dogs.
5. Going to the library for some more books to read.0 -
Hello everybody - definitely a bit warmer up here in scouseland - no frost on the grass this morning.
Hope you're all having a good day so far and that it only gets better ((((((Hugs)))))) for all:D.
Here are my five for yesterday:
1. Home-made Spicy Parsnip Soup with crusty bread for lunch.
2. Haggis (thanks for reminder sparrer), with mash and carrot/swede (cooked and frozen before christmas) for evening meal.
3. DS1(aged35) visited and said my Lemon Drizzle Cake wasn't as good as last week's- I thought I'd over-drizzled it last week as it was so moist that it was breaking up. So this time, I used a little less drizzle - oh-hum back to using most of the juice of the lemon next time!
4. Speaking to DM on the phone last night as she's staying with my brother for a few days. We've arranged to meet up tomorrow. Now this won't be very money-saving/OS as DM is a Bingo addict and I will be obliged to go with her. BUT as it's her birthday on Monday, I shall 'treat her to a session' as a pressie (I know that will be appreciated!) plus you never know - we might just win.
5. Received a book through Amazon and started reading it - 'Finding Peggy' about the author's experiences of growing up in post-war Glasgow.
6. Baby-sitting DD's children this evening - dgs1(Nathan-age7) and dgd2(Katie-15mths) so I forecast fun and games ahead when it comes to bedtime!0 -
Yesterday was fairly 'ordinary' but here we go:-
1. Receiving a package in the post from a friend, containing some sunflower seeds to sprout.
2. Giving the new (cheap) skirt I've made a good press with a damp cloth and it looks really good now.
3. Vaccing our bedroom to within an inch of it's life, now it looks better and I feel better.
4. A good long afternoon card making.
5. A shepherd's pie with such a little bit of lamb and DH proclaiming it 'very nice'
Bella.A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth. Luke 12 v 150 -
Good to hear your mother came through her tests OK, sparrer.
Mine's 78 on Monday, loves her Bingo and her ciggies (let's not mention smoking bans pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese!). She works 3 morning shifts a week in their local charity shop (does the early shifts because the 'younger ones' are no good at getting there early enough to unlock and open up!). She's a retired Housekeeper/Companion and now lives with my sister and her family. I think she's under the impression that she's now in charge of their household and loves to prep things for the evening meal while sis is still at work, do the laundry and ironing. It makes her feel as though she's contributing instead of having folks look after her - which is really great.0 -
Yesterday's blessings:
1. Managed to get a copy of Grow your own veg by Carol Klein - so a few hours of happy reading guaranteed
2. Making a lovely dinner of duck (free - bartered), roast potatoes (free) and cabbage. The sauce on the duck was flavored with HM hedgerow jelly. Delicious
3. Realising that so far this month I'm well under budget on the housekeeping and I'll have some to put away for the Costco shop later in the year.
4. Watching Masterchef and the Victorian Farm whilst drinking a glass of HM wine
5. Snuggling up lovely and warm on the sofa - covered with a quilt and no draft because we've put plastic film up on the window.Enjoying an MSE OS life0 -
Being complemented on my sausage casserole plate pie (2 meals stretched from 1)
Coming down stairs this morning to find no dog mess or distruction - took the chance of leaving the kitchen door open for them, Good Doggies
Singing with DD who is 18 months (in the car) on the way to child care.... lalalaaaallaaaaaaa
Pizza Party and a movie for a gaggle of kids tonight (niece and nephew and friends 4) - trip to iceland for some nice but cheap pizza's after work
And an extra one - finishing at 4 today and its FRIDAY!0 -
Really must remember to do this every day - i think it's good for the sole!!
1. Making home made pizzas last night followed by home made white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake and getting lots of compliments about my cooking!
2. Having followed fly lady all week my house is almost spotless and very organised - just the spare room to tackle but that will be a work in progress for a while!!
3. Making my DH a lovely valentines card for tomorrow and planning a romantic evening together.
4. Having DH say how much he has enjoyed coming home to me in an evening, house work done, animals walked and fed, dinner cooked so all that's left is for us to snuggle in front of the fire and chat about our day.
5. Seeing the beautiful bunch of daffodills MIL bought me open up into such a cheery display for the kitchen table
6. Seeing sunshine outside!!!0 -
Yesterday
1. Getting the local "Hitler" at the jobcentre when signing on but she was surprisingly alright with me. I think the credit crunch/recession has actually made her nicer rather than her normal nasty way and assuming we are all skivers who don't want to work.
2. Free Coffee from Pret
3. Porridge with cocoa nibs and dried blueberries
4. Day off from Jobsearch.
5. Walkers Chili and Chocolate crisps
6. Free Dunkirk DVD - will use for Gift for flatmate
7. Robyn Hitchcock in Concert
8. the flurry of snow on the way to the gig
9. free cd on the way out of gig.
10. nice hot mug of hot chocolate before bedWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this Thread. It is definitely one of the highlights of my day to have a read of what you are all up to. (even if I don’t get time to post myself.)
1. Spent half an hour with my 6 year old son on my bed reading books of his choice.
2. Watched half of Victorian Kitchen.
3. Sorted out my can food cupboard, as I am fed up buying food without checking what I have in.(I had 7 cans of mushroom soup.)
4. Using half of my frozen cooked chicken to make homemade chicken and bacon cream pasta for evening meal.
5. Went into Town as my dad wanted to go shopping. Only thing I bought was strong bin bags from Wilkinsons. Can’t be accused of wasting my money for once.

Hi all
Isn't it great that this thread is one of the favourites?
Disflop, we must have syncronised libraries, I also got the notification that Nella Last's Peace is in!
Applemint, thanks for mentioning Carol Klein, I had meant to get her book and after reading your post I went on the Book People and found it for £4.99 (plus half price delivery £1.75 - much better than Amazon!).
I have so many past pleasures for the days I wasn't online but will concentrate on today:
1 - Breakfast of HM cake (which incidentally is probably my first successful cake - I am great at savouries but rubbish at puddings and slowly learning!).
2 - Pilates classes very gentle and helped my shoulder a lot
3 - Tea after Pilates with a few other women who attend this class and another I go to (the Monday over-50s aerobics). I was commenting with one of them how nice it is to meet with other women of approximately same age and generally same interests, and how everybody is so friendly in our group.
4 - Nella Last's Peace at the library for me!
5 - DD's boyfriend very kindly sawed a whole load of wood we had in the back garden for our wood stove, for a very small sum of money. He is a real sweetheart!
6 - Last night I slept almost all night and this morning I am feeling so much better, perhaps I am really on the mend this time! I HOPE!
7 - 2 lbs haricot beans in soak for the next batch of HM baked beans
Have a good day all, hopefully I shall be back here more often now! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
