  • My five:

    1) DH exchanged some XBox games for £89 store credit, so we won't have to part with any real cash for his 'entertainment' for a while
    2) I sold 30 old CDs to my BIL who has a CD/DVD shop for £35 (https://www.musicmagpie.co.uk would only have offered me £12 for the same!)
    3) Made an "unusual variety" of cupcakes by using a Tesco Value sponge mix (pop some plain mix into first 3 paper cases)... add ground almonds & almond essence (pop into next 3) then add some cocoa powder... you get the picture! Well most of them were edible, lol! :rotfl:
    4) Got my 8MB AOL broadband package down from £14.99 a month to just £6.99 :T as my contract was due to expire and I threatened to leave (I've been with them since 1999!)
    5) Prepared the breadmaker before I left for work this morning so that MIL could have some nice fresh bread with her lunch - she actually phoned me up at work to thank me!

    Hello all

Here are some from the weekend..

    1. Pickling some beetroot that came in our veg box

    2. Making a banana loaf with some past their best bananas

    3. Making chicken stock with some bones from dinner, for freezer

    4. Watching the birds eating the scraps we had put out for them. Poor things are so hungry with the snow

    5. Defrosting the freezer and realising that there is loads of space in there. Actually not much lurking, so quite pleased with that

    6. Making rhubarb crumble with some of our frozen garden rhubarb

    7. Making pastry, for a quiche for tomorrow, and some to freeze.

Raggydoll, hope you are feeling ok. Give yourself lots of time and care.

    1. Leftovers for lunch :)
    2. Almost missing my stop this morning as I was so engrossed in my book....!
    3. Slightly warmer weather - I miss the snow but the ice was a struggle for so many older people.
    4. Laughing at my cat climbing up his new giant scratching post (made out of a 6' cardboard tube and some leftover carpet!)
    5. The kindness of strangers - this evening my train journey was terminated a long way from home, due to flooding. Some kind people offered me a lift, going out of their way in awful weather on a horrible night. If it wasn't for them I'd probably still be waiting in the rain for a bus! Was really nice to have a chat with some random people, it's one of the things I love most having moved back "home" after living in London for two years. :)

apparently they are whacking mine up to £13.99 from £9.99. I dont have bb but my flatmate has aol bb.which I use to access my aol as a guest user. I have been offered bb for 6.99 a month but is it possible for me to take that offer and just keep accessing it as I am already or do I have to get another bb line put in? Been an AOHell member since 1998.

Not much from me for today. Had a bit of a 'down day' as one of my lady pensioner tenants has died this weekend. Many of the others are feeling quite low as she was very popular in their little social circle. Brings it back to them all that none of them are getting any younger. That's four of them since October.

I've really enjoyed reading everybody else's blessings - coming on this thread is helping to lift my mood - thanks folks.

Sending ((((((((((special hugs)))))))))) to raggydoll, folks with friends/relatives in Aus and anybody else who needs them.
  • Over the weekend:

    1. baking old-fashioned rock cakes (recipe from my 1970s Cordon Bleu Baking 1 cookery book, itself a bargain reduction at the time)
    2. baking fairy cakes and icing them
    3. baking a victoria sponge and filling it with my neighbour's plum jam
(is it cheating counting the baking as 3 things )
    4. Going out and hacking down some of the garden jungle
    5. planning our first attempt at growing taters in sacks

    My five for Monday:

    1. Loving watching my sons have one-to-one sports coaching this morning.

    2. Chatting with a friend over a coffee.

    3. Got a £5 voucher for a well known stationers in the post. Very, very useful.

    4. Sorting out a cheap mobile phone package which I think will prove cheaper than my current pay-as-you-go (and has a straightforward out-clause if it doesn't).

    5. Coming across some toiletries that we use regularly on special offer in town and so buying top ups for our store cupboard. It is soooo satisfying to see the store cupboard's contents growing a little bit more each week.

    Sleep well.

Warm thoughts going out to everyone wherever you are

    Monday blessings...

    1. A pack of Snap cards arrived in the post, that's the 5th from a company which was giving them away (thanks to the Freebie forum). Many more and they'll need a table of their own when car boot sales start again :D

    2. Went to the dentist this morning and all is well

    3. Visited DD after the dentist, saw DSiL and DGD1. That's always a visit I enjoy :A more so because it was the first time I've been able to go out for a week. Popped into MrA on the way home and bought 5 Easter eggs @ £1 each

    4. YS steak pie, mash and cabbage for dinner...cheap, quick, filling and tasty.

    5. Searched for travel insurance for DGD2 and myself for our trip to Rhodes, quotes ranged from £39 down to £11 for the pair of us. Found one that covers all eventualities for £14, so that's bought and paid for. Another step on the way to our holiday:j
