If I had one of the affected cars, I'd keep it off the road for the next 15 years or so - it'll then be one of the few "original cheat cars" left as people get rid of theirs; might attract a collectors' premium:rotfl:
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Audi: 2.1m of their cars have the "cheat" software. Not sure if that's included in the 11-odd million worldwide figure already disclosed by VW
5m VW passenger cars are affected:

So that leaves around 3.9 million as the rest - VWCV, SEAT, Skoda.
I guess Bentley, Ducati and Bugatti don't use those particular engines0 -

The biggest immediate threat is the banning of sales of Euro-V cars in countries where they have a lot still to sell if they don't come up with a plan by October 7th. They are working hard on a 'fix' for all Euro-V cars:

The next hurdle is what happens with fleet, which is more or less 50% of sales for most manufacturers. In principle, any large UK organisation (national charity, big company, local authority, NHS, retail chain, whatever) that has environmental, social, or other governance policies might be duty-bound to take VAG off their PSL, at least in the short term. Plus, there are rumours that the EU might stop buying asset backed securities from VWFS.
There have also been lots of stories about other manufacturers being implicated... but nothing concrete being said about any other manufacturer.
In fact, I read over the weekend that a BMW was also tested alongside the VWs by the American team that first broke this, and by all accounts it was entirely within spec. Interesting that this news never really broke... I guess it was better political capital to just hint that all of them there 'German Vee-hi-culs' might be affected.
The fuel is irrelevant IMO.
The damage is to the brand, even for those unaffected.0 -

I suspect that the hint that other manufacturers would be the same came from a certain part of Europe as a deflection tactic. I would be surprised if many other companies are found to have done the same thing.
It is time that the testing of cars performance was tightened up. Why not have it that the car tested must be the spec that is on sale, no removing parts for weight, a set temperature not a range, no disconnecting anything to remove power drains etc. Would be interesting to see the results then. Probably be much closer to real world numbers.0 -

Actually going up and down a hill during the test would provide a significant 'vorsprung durch präzision'.
At present, only a very slow Dutchman can hope to get anywhere near the advertised MPG.0 -

Now's the time to buy a second hand VW. Great cars, dead reliable and all the social justice warriors won't want them anymore0

Numbers of vehicles affected:
- VW - 5m
- Audi - 2.1m
- Skoda - 1.2m
- Seat - 700,000
- VWCV - 1.8m

Media has died down on this abit now, until we hear dates for recalls and fine amounts from the US.
For a minute I thought the shares were on their way back up today, but it wasn't to be. If my maths is right, they're sat just over 41% down on their share price at the moment since last Friday.0
