Mumto5 - my mum organised a fundraiser for MacMillan and raised £300+. My last encounter with a MacMillan nurse left me sobbing on the phone. She was telling me bad news, but there are ways to do it, and I was shocked at how she did it.
I shall be subtly suggesting that in future fundraising is done for Cancer Research.
I was really shocked to discover that they don't cover your area.
Back from the pub. Sister is sorting things. Delivery men have arrived and their lorry has brought down two telephone wires - ours and next doors. We still have a phone line, if no fascia board, next door are apparently not quite that lucky.
Anyone want to write a sitcom based on my life in the last 24 hours?:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
Afternoon flyers. I haven't read everything back so hope everyone is ok.
Natty - sorry to hear about the dog
CY -its a good job you have a sense of humour which shines through at the moment
I have been missing in action all week due to the paid stuff. The only flying I got done was in our bedroom and emptying the ironing basket. I even got bothered by the paid stuff on my day off, and today I have got man-flu from DH so am just doing the bare minimum.
Think I'll take a leaf out of Yorkshirelasses book, literally, and give the dogs a short walk, then read a book.
Have a great afternoon/evening everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -

Good luck with the application. I hope the personal statement writing goes smoothly.
He was in the RAMC, attached to the 12th (Service) Battalion, Manchester Regiment, killed in the southern area of the Ypres salient. He's buried in Ridge Wood Military Cemetery; my father found the grave and photographed it about 40 years ago and that's in one of his albums I have. I've got a more up to date photograph of the headstone from the CWGC website, and I had originally planned to go there for yesterday but had to abandon that idea quite a while ago. I'll get there one day. (His father, grandfather and great grandfathers were all doctors, and all four of his brothers also graduated from the Universtiy of Manchester Medical School. One of them, Marshall, served as a Captain the Royal Welch Fusiliers in France and Palestine and was wounded at Loos.)
Happy anniversary to the Yorkies and the Kittens, with heaps of happy birthdays going to Valli, as well.
Congratulations to you, Mumto5 on the great niece. Lovely name.
The element went in the oven last night while I was doing lazy fish and chips. That's the third element in 13 years so we've decided we're probably going to to cut our losses with this one unless by some miracle I can find a freelance local engineer who can sort it. We won't be getting another Be11!ng.
OH did all the flying for me this morning and walked the dog while I was learning how to plaster. He's stripped all three beds, run the bedding, towels and a dark load through the WM and pegged it all out, as well as straightening the place out and phoning someone who's looking for accommodation for two weeks from Monday *kerching*. (I managed two coats and they stayed on the wall! Very chuffed with myself.)Better is good enough.0 -
:j:beer::kisses2::bdaycake: there that should cover all the celebrations today, although I hope DS3 better to enjoy tomorrow Dusty
After a late start owing to a good book, I have had a mainly botanical day - did church flowers then lots in garden.
Had severe argument with TV/recorder/digital box thingy as it kept saying it was 2009 hence could not possibly record programmes...... think I've beaten it into submission now.
Realised with horror that I am booked for 5 assessments next week (3hrs with student plus about 6hrs report writing for each one), not to mention the 2 I did this week and am in process of writing up - in fact being on this site at all is procrastination.......which sadly can't be disguised as planning!
I did manage to do a bit of my Mindfulness course yesterday.
Still a few things to put away from holiday case.
No more faffing; time for attacking a report before a break for Str1ctly and food (enough left over from yesterday), then more report while Mr N watches the rugby.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.0 -
Happy Anniversary to Mr and Mrs Yorkie despite the catalogue of chaotic events.
Happy anniversary to Mr and Mrs Kitten; GWS vibes to your DS3.
:bdaycake:
*sings* - now that there's definitely no copyright in force - Happy Birthday to you, Valli.
We are home.
We have enjoyed lots of sun today at the Malvern Show.
I am tired after driving for most of the morning and walking around for five hours.
DH offered 15 minutes ago to go and mow the lawn and give me time to unpack and sort the washing, but he hasn't started yet and the sun is going down behind the trees so it will soon be dark.
I also need to cook some tea ( just scrambled eggs or possibly jacket potatoes with beans) and make up a shopping list for tomorrow.
Best get DH up and moving then!0 -
Congratulations to all those celebrating, and get well vibes to all who need them.
Just parking the remainder of the lists here for the weekend. Hope to get some more of it done by tomorrow night.

A brief update. After much cursing I now have a functioning hob.
I am one piece of plumbing short of a functioning dishwasher. OH is now dealing with this. Hopefully in 48 hours....
My sister arrived with the correct size of dishwasher in her car. The disaster with the telegraph pole meant that the men were only too willing to be of assistance. They removed my old dishwasher, helped install the new one and took away all the rubbish including my old hob. In addition to sorting the return of the dishwasher that wouldn't fit.
My nerves may just be starting to settle down.
Hope everyone else is having a less eventful day.:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
Blimey CY glad things are going the right way now.
What a lazy day I've had. Done stuff. But none of it took that long, except for the dog walk :
[STRIKE]Make beds
DW
WM
Worktops
Kitchen floor swept and mopped
[/STRIKE]
HHI
[STRIKE]Decent length dog walk[/STRIKE]
Card and present for DD1's friend
[STRIKE]Clean LR windows
Clean door.[/STRIKE]
The dog walk walk was long in time rather than distance as the kids came along. much stopping to wade about in the beck and pick blackberries which was all very lovely but the dog is much happier doing a five mile route march.
I've spent much of the day messing about with a calender / organiser app I've installed on my phone. Sick of forgetting stuff. I've clung on to a paper diary for years but the reality is I forget to write things in it and also forget to look in it! Hoping using my phone will work better.
Note the avoidance of ironing again. I will have to tackle it tomorrow, running out of clothes.0 -
CY, blimey................I am glad things are sorting themselves out, please make sure you get some rest xx
