My 2006 Dell 6400 laptop, limited to 2 GB ram, got rid of Win 10 preview, clean install of Win 7 Pro SP1, (no updates), upgraded to 10 Pro, and I can't see any difference in speed.
So I've not yet bothered with a clean install.
Speed is fine for browsing.
Same model and RAM. Mine was over a similar clean install of 7 pro. I might give it a bit longer or try a clean install of 10. CPU use is definitely down over 7.0 -
I have never upgradedI'd like to upgrade but Win10 has driver issues with my laptops Wifi forcing me to rollback, waiting for them to sort the issue out but I doubt they will.0

I have never upgradedI'm not going anywhere near Windows 10 until Threshold 2 is released, which was supposed to be in October but has now been pushed back to November.100% debt free

Clean install has fixed the speed issues and had no problem with the display drivers. With the upgrade I had to go and find them myself.
Perversely, disabling "Fast startup" has improved the previously glacial start up time.0 -

Good to know.
Initially for me, there was a small problem with the graphics, but on the first check for updates something was downloaded which fixed the glitch.
re the ram, have you had a problem with ram slots?
If I fit any memory into slot A, mine gives the 45 flashes code the same as 7th down in link.

So, I'm limited to one slot.
p.s. I've got an SSD in mine and have turned off Hibernate, which also disables 'Fast startup'Move along, nothing to see.0 -

No problem with the ram, although it was installed in 2008 so I may have forgotten any issues. I'm not going to bother with an SSD as I only use it as a backup machine. I did stick one in my 2008 Dell XPS 420 desktop and it really gave it a kick up the bum. It may be unrelated but it starts up in seconds running 10.0 -
I have upgraded and kept Windows 10I've just bought a new 8.1 laptop (previous one was still on Vista), and it took me all of 30 seconds to decide to update to Windows 10. A bit of a faff and a couple of aborted attempts but now everythings up and running OK, perfectly happy with it.Out on blue six..

Make sure you turn off W10's spying and bandwidth hogging [strike]features[/strike] anti-features, plenty of guides available on the net.

They may wish to use some of the features rather than turning them off.

Didn't realise you had 2 shares in Microsoft, I can understand protecting ones investment even though it's ethically unsound.
How are your VW shares doing by the way ?Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0
