  • I have upgraded to Windows 10 but reverted to previous edition

Why not try a clean install of 10 first? Something went wrong with your first upgrade obviously, W10 is fast to start up and not sluggish in any way.

Because 7 was fine and worked, and was quick. I'd rather go back to basics again with that. Found UI much better.

I didn't like how windows update is now on all the time and you can't stop it from doing updates unless you stop it from working completely. You can't even choose which updates to install.

Considering how badly the last update went I'd prefer to have control over when and how I install updates. As I have often found after updating something that it messes things up and I've had to roll back to a recovery point before.

The only positive I've got from this is that it means I've had to clear any unnecessary crud off the computer.

Actually despite all that I've just said, I've decided that I might try doing a clean install of windows 10 first. If that fails I'll go back to 7,

Might as well since I can't use computer at the moment anyway!

Running fine now I've clean installed Windows 10.

Can't change vote in Poll but probably be keeping it now ;)

That was my point. Your problem wasn't an actual W10 one, it was just a bad install. Doing a fresh install, before reverting to W7 made sense as you had nothing to lose.
Glad it's worked out for you and as you say, you now have a nice clean PC to play with....:)

Surprise surprise, my ancient Dell Inspiron mini 1080 has upgraded from windows 7 starter.
Funny as it was reporting an incompatable driver until recently.

I'm just about to start looking at a 2011 Samsung N145 Plus with Win 7 Starter.
It's their spare and they just want Win 10 to see what it's like before upgrading their main laptop.
I've got 10 days while they're away on holiday.
1st job up ram to 2GB.
Currently, 'only' 81 running processes with 1GB ram.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I've upgraded a couple of Windows 8 VMs and a laptop to 10, but it's not really grabbed my attention; the laptop had issues after the upgrade and Update stopped working.

It's probably better than Windows 8, but I don't think I'll be moving any Windows 7 machines over.

I've got to cover off a procedure to close the spyware and bandwidth stealing before I'll use it properly.

Out of interest I just upgraded a 2006/7 Dell laptop. It works, but it is a lot slower than 7.

Do a fresh install? (The installation will be registered with MS and so you shouldn't have any activation issues).

My 2006 Dell 6400 laptop, limited to 2 GB ram, got rid of Win 10 preview, clean install of Win 7 Pro SP1, (no updates), upgraded to 10 Pro, and I can't see any difference in speed.
So I've not yet bothered with a clean install.
    Speed is fine for browsing.
