Is it just on the fence between you and them or all the way round their garden?

No this is our fence that runs all the way to the bottom - about 150 ft

Then if they think it will keep cats out of their garden, they're underestimating the local cats.

You need to ask them what its for. If its to stop cats a single wire a few inches above the fence will work but if supported by your fence you need to agree to this.

If you do speak to them always refer to the fence as my fence and not the fence, just to make it clear who owns it.

Boundary fences are supposed to be under a certain height. Find out from your local council planning office if this addition is above that.

They could always put up a fence panel on their side of the boundary and put chicken wire on top of their own panel.

I'd just leave it. Might be unsightly but you can't do much about it.

  • I would. We also have a fairly unsightly fence on one side which is to stop the neighbourhood riff raff. It works. And they're unfortunately not cats.

They really should be asked to take it down but if you don't want to do that the how about fixing a 2 ft high trellis to the top of you fence that should hide it or alternatively grow some cotoeaster or other prickly shrub / climber up your fence.

Unfortunately our fence is around 150ft long and we had brought a fence that we felt looked nice in our garden. We dont want to start attaching stuff to it to hide their unsightly mess :-(

Have you decided what to do about it?
