Can you not push the metal sheets through the gaps in the fence away from the fence during the night when they are not watching the fence and next morning say it must have been windy during the night?

    Cracking advice

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

Fences as supports: Can I hang things on my neighbour's fence?
Fences as supports: Can I use my neighbour's fence as a support for my own plants?
Fences, appearance of: Can I paint my side of my neighbour's fence?

Only if your neighbour gives you permission to do so.

Leaning things against your neighbour's fence, hanging things on your neighbour's fence, even using your neighbour's fence as a makeshift retaining wall, will place a much heavier burden on the fence panels and supporting posts than they were designed to bear. The consequences of such actions are easy enough to predict and you will be liable for the cost of any repairs. On top of that you will still have to do, and pay for, the work that you did incorrectly and which resulted in the damage to your neighbour's fence.

In short, anything you do to your neighbour's fence without your neighbour's permission
    - including staining, painting or applying preservative to your side of your neighbour's fence -
    amounts to criminal damage.

If they are not approachable and unreasonable your best bet is probably just to leave it. Even if you do get them to detach it from your fence, are they the kind of people that would just put up some poles on their side and attach the sheet to the poles they have put up. Nothing you could do about that and it might look even worse.

We cant leave it, there are 1ft high sheets of chicken mesh stapled to our fence that goes on for around 100 ft.

How can you tell they have put things up against the fence on their side. Is the fence see through or have lots of gaps in it?

They have stapled 1ft chicken mesh all along the fence for about 100ft. My daughters saw them with the staple gun.

Hi, in op you call them metal sheets, implies solid sheeting, then you say it's chicken wire 1 ft high , sounds like they are animal proofing, either to keep in there garden or keeping something out, either way how is a 1 ft high chicken wire unsightly from your side, I would just like to understand your objection a bit more.

One foot high chicken wire is not the same as metal sheets.

Is it at the bottom or top of the fence?

........and do you by any chance have a few cats?

I'm assuming this is attached to their side and that it isn't visible from yours?

Sorry wasnt completely sure how to explain what the material was yesterday. Be good if we could post pics.

It is unsightly because it is 1ft above the fence line, so as soon as you walk in to our garden, you dont see a lovely 6ft fence anymore, you see 6ft fence with a foot of mesh/or whatever it is going along the fence for 100ft. Its all odd pieces.
