Not to mention it is a waste of taxpayers money unless the claimant walks or cycles to the JobCentre. !!! if much can be done in half an hour a week jobsearch there - yet they will be paying out travel expenses.
Plus the extra benefits that people who have to work pay for, even those who get benefits on low wages actually go out and do something for their money0 -

Plenty of people claiming JSA live at home with their parents.
There are other things that people on JSA get that working people have to pay for, and if a person is living with their parents they can survive on 70 odd quid a week even though they feel they have to 'work' for it0 -
There is no point in continuing the discussion because it's going in circles. If you have a grudge toward people on benefits please create your own thread and discuss it there.
Many thanks.0 -

Really - well let me tell you something - on Wednesday I was taken very ill with a severe chest infection by the time I got to work I was on the verge of collapse I couldn't breathe and I thought I was going to die, luckily for me I live in the UK with a fantastic NHS, I was able to go to a GP surgery I was not a patient of, got seen in 10 minutes diagnosed and given prescriptions for steroids, antibiotics an inhaler and an inhaler spacer.
BUT where I am very very lucky and very very grateful I am now 60 and the powers that be have decided I don't pay for prescriptions any more that's 32 quids worth of medication that this country gave me for free.
Now of course I could have an entitled attitude like you the country supports me when I am sick and I am going to just take that support , I could say that as I have paid in for 45 years its my right to have the freebies that I qualify for, but that to me is totally the wrong attitude.
So no I don't begrudge anyone who needs support and benefits , but I do and I always will take issue with people who want these things but complain about having to do something to get them or having to prove they are doing something to get them.0 -
As you enter the world of work be prepared to have people not be very nice to you sometimes. You will at times be belittled and have to smile and get on with it. Think of your appointment experience as good practice.
Nobody is kicking you here just pointing out that you seem to expect compensation or an apology because they were not very nice to you. If you came into my office wanting me to do something for you with the defensive and entitled attitude you have displayed on this thread I would certainly not go out of my way to make it easy for you.
My advice for what its worth, chill out do the 1/2 hour a week, find any old job as quick as you can with the hope of moving into your specialist field as something comes up. Every day is a school day.0 -

Do you need a hand off your high horse?

I've re-read it the early posts and come to the conclusion that while you may not have liked the attitude of the lady your saw, your grouse is being asked to go in for half an hour a week so you then looked for a reason to complain.
She may not have been the employee of the year but did she really do anything wrong? Some people you will hit it off with and find you have a football team in common; some are just not your sort of person.
Sounds like the feeling was mutual and unfortunately for you she had it in her power to make things a little bit inconvenient for you - but she's done nothing wrong.
Maybe she suspects - rightly or wrongly - that you aren't putting a lot of effort in to job-hunting - well not lack of effort exactly but limiting yourself too much - maybe completely dismissing anything that doesn't match your aspirations.
You said you are a recent graduate - did you work to support yourself at all when studying? If so, what happened to those jobs - are there similar you could be doing meantime? They may not be what you aspire to but employers do like people with a track record of discipline and application.0 -

Thanks for your insightful response. I think you are correct about her making things inconvenient. I've reflected on my meeting with her and it seems that what may have caused her to be agitated was that I asked where my usual advisor was when I sat down which she may have thought was a personal attack or dislike towards her. I say this because she looked at my record and accessed my jobsearch account and said it was "excellent" and to "keep doing what you've been doing!" I have the usual work skills because I've had many jobs. I worked as a full time teacher during summer for past 3 years and would love to teach but if I don't apply my degree in my next career path I'm afraid I'll forget the information I learned, so I'm aiming for a specific field. However, they gave me 3 months to find a job in my professional field, if no luck then I have to apply for everything.0
