Thank you MSE Martin - I followed your advice regarding the AI Scheme, it took me all of 5 minutes to fill in the form, and today I received a cheque for £172

I've just had 1997-2005 repaid by Barclaycard for an Affinion Card Protection product (Sentinel Gold) - if this experience is anything to go by then they are not making it difficult to reclaim.
I called AI Scheme Ltd and asked for the year in which I acquired the product, then called Barclaycard on their main customer service number (0800 151 0900) and worked my way through the automated system to raise a complaint. Had a rather muddled conversation with the overseas call centre where he firstly said there was no record of me having such a product, then tried to refer me to an Affinion phone number. After re-iterating several times that I wanted to raise a complaint against Barclaycard for mis-selling he did so & said i'd hear in writing within 21 days.
Five days later I received a form asking how i'd like the money paid back if the claim was upheld, and the day after that a letter upholding the claim!
At no stage did I provide an Affinion membership number, or have to explain why I felt the product was mis-sold, or produce any paperwork (not that I have records going back that far..). The claim letter notes that the complaint was upheld as they were not able to establish that, when originally sold to me, the product was suitable to my needs or adequately explained. It also directed me to the AI Scheme Ltd to claim for the post-2005 period.
Hope this info helps someone
I followed the similar process as you above, but I have already received a offer cheque of £78 from AI which I wanted to review today before the 30 day deadline as per the AI letter, so after reading your blog, I called the AI helpline 0800 678 1930 to ask who sold me the policy pre 2005, and managed to find out that it was Barclaycard since 1990, I then called Barclaycard direct, I stated "complaint" on the voice activated service then got through the overseas call centre to be fogged off! that the systems are down for a few hours, & they can’t call me back either!, I have to call them back after a few hours!:(!,
Then I remembered  I could try calling through my Barclays mobile App and when I got through, I explained to the operator that I wanted to register a complaint for misselling of the CPP and got put through to Barclays CPP claims and informed them that I have received an offer from AI for after 2005, but need to claim direct from the Barclaycard for the previous years, they then registered my complaint of misselling CPP, and when asked why, I just said that “I was mis-sold the CPP as I was already covered for some services directly from the bank" with no specific details given! and then a cpmplaint Ref number given by the BarclayCard CPP Claims..
Will keep you informed if I get anything of the outcome (as a little bit will go towards a charity for orphaned children and people in need),
Thanks Again

As above, I have no recollection of having the product, on which card and for how much. I am unsure how to complete the claim form.0

We've had Sentinel for several years and the service was extremely efficient and helpful when we reported that my wife had had her purse stolen.
The literature I received led me to believe that if we submitted a claim under this scheme the cover would automatically be cancelled and I don't want that to happen so I haven't done anything about putting a claim in.
Have I been advised correctly please?0 -
Thanks got £460 refund re. Sentinel after using template letter!0

I had Sentinel protection for years but it would have started before 2005. I hadn't received a letter but I moved house last year so I called AI, we ran though all my old addresses but Im not on their system
. They have opened a customer ref for me and sending me docs but say I need proof that I had Sentinel protection. Im sure I purchased this as part of being with the Halifax and was told at the time that I needed to have it (never used it though!). Can anyone advise where I go from here? Thanks

What happens if you have had Sentinel for many years but don't know who sold it to you? A I Scheme don't have the record and Sentinel have said the package I have is Afinion House Gold Plus, but no one knows who sold it to me!!
From what I can gather if you were not sold this product through a scheme member then you can't get the compensation. Is this the case?
My father has received a renewal letter from Sentinel, when I contacted them they told me his product was taken out 1st November 1996, with British Telecom Charge Card, 'it was probably just a ticky box', and it is not part of the A1 scheme, Does anyone have any idea where I can go next to find out if he is eligible for compensation?0
