Sentinel (AI Scheme) compensation help guide

Despite the blurb from the AI scheme people that claims wouldn't be paid until 2016 I received a cheque a few weeks after sending in their form. £167. Result!
One omission in the info on the scheme on this site is that although the headline figure is 8% interest paid it isn't actually as they deduct tax from that.0 -
Thank you all. Under the AI scheme I received £450 plus and thanks to the posts on this forum I have now received a further £550 plus from Barclaycard for the pre 2005 subscriptions0

I got a letter today saying I'll be paid £301 by Barclaycard. For sentinel from 1993-2005.0

Big thanks to Money Saving Expert and everyone in this forum for suggesting it was worth contacting Barclaycard to claim for pre 2005 policies. I've been refunded £193.78, on top of the £368.24 I had for the post 2005 policy. Really pleased!! :beer:0

Can't fault the Co-Op....
Wednesday 18th I called A1 helpline 0800 6781930 for a duplicate claim letter & to ask about the pre 2005 claim. They told me Co-Op bank was the origin of my Sentinel cover & provided the start date. I called the dedicated claim line for the Co-Op 0800 8404985, they found me on the system using my scheme reference number from A1. I was told there was no need to write in & that I'd receive a decision by post in 5 days. Saturday 21st I received a cheque for £180.72!
It's really worth claiming, my premiums pre 2005 were only £94.00- the rest is interest (less tax)
Co-Op done & dusted in less time than it's taking A1 to send a duplicate claim form!
Thanks MSE0 -
Thanks to this website for bringing this to my attention. It only took about 6 weeks for AI to send me a cheque for £460 this morning- just in time for Christmas0

So I have completed my AI claim form and then having read some of the posts on here thought I should check about the situation prior to 2005. I spoke to AI who confirmed that I had been paying for the policy since 1994 and would need to speak to Barclaycard direct. After having spent 37 minutes on the phone to Barclaycard being passed from pillar to post they now don't see why I am claiming prior to 2005 as that is when the fraudulent activity was included in bank accounts and prior to that we did need Sentinel to cover us. I am confused, how come others have received compensation for prior to 2005, what were you claiming for exactly? Barclaycard are going to write to me and have escalated it to their complaints department but I am not very hopeful of a positive outcome. TBH what she said made sense so I am bit confused as to what others have received extra money for?
Any help appreciated in case I should really be fighting with Barclaycard.
Many thanks.0 -
Thanks for all the advice on here. £398 paid out by AI this week. Took about 6 weeks to process. Just waiting to hear from Lloyds now for pre 2005. Great advice on here as always.0

Got a cheque for £134 from AI scheme, I only had it from 2005 until I cancelled in 2009 after realising my self it wasn't offering any benefits, now do I just wait to see if the years before that are automatically refunded like others on here have found or do I have to do something else now?
Thank goodness I frequent MSE ...lol :money:No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere0 -
Just to share my experience. I have had Sentinel cover for very many years, but had no record of how and when I signed up to it.
Nevertheless I returned the claim form (not expecting much really). I merely paraphrased the two paragraphs from A1 letter, completed the form in normal handwriting, (not capitals) and sent if off about a month ago. Took two weeks to receive a cheque for £370 from A1. I wasn't going to bother to pursue the pre 2005 claim as I had no data to work on. However yesterday out of the blue I received a cheque from Lloyds Bank for £270 in respect of the pre 2005 payments . Good on Lloyds!! All in all a very much simpler process than I had anticipated, resulting in an extremely useful christmas bonus!0
