So, I'd be replacing '65' and '16' plate cars with new ones?

    Hardly seems moneysaving......

Paying to exchange them for 2 new cars........It makes absolutely no financial sense.

Also, as Nissan are in bed with Renault, and Renault offer shockingly bad customer service (so much that a dealer manager and one of their national fleet managers are banned from our offices), I wouldn't touch Nissan with a barge pole.

I'm also abroad with the car for a lot more than 14 days a year. 2 cars = 28 days, but that's still not long enough.

Pah. I shall say it again. Pah :)

This is nothing new. I have driven a *British* electric car years ago.

It had everything. Fantastic range. Premium collision protection devices which didn't involve pesky airbags. Fantastic agility. No pesky recharge time.

In fact, the only thing which spoilt it was the bloke who would jump on the back of the car bumper and tell you to get off. :(

(I'm not going to that fairground again)

Battery chemistry and technology is complicated. If you've ever seen a faulty Li-Ion battery go up, you'll be aware of just how much energy they contain and why spontaneous failure is not an option.

Charging to partial capacity can be done fairly safely with a higher voltage, some phones with Qualcomm chipsets actually support 9V or 12V charging (with the right charger), as long as the battery monitors its condition.

There are new cell technologies evolving (eg high concentration capacitors, lithium coated carbon mousse, all kinds) which each might add 1-2% storage/weight but it takes time. Some of these new technologies are more robust in the face of heat/rapid charges (lower dendrite growth I gather?)

As I see it, re charging, if you've not got your own point then there's no point.

It could be said "most service stations have one" - but you know it won't be the service station near you, or that one shuts at 10pm.... and even if you do drag yourself out of the house, to the right service station, before it shuts, you know there'll be 2 other suckers in front of you in the queue, who will take an hour to refill ... so, what now, you need to do it, but you don't want to sit and twiddle your thumbs in the car for an hour waiting for your turn, which will mean another 30 minutes of thumb twiddling ....

It all sounds like it requires a lot of pre-planning, faffing around and potentially waiting behind others for your slot ....
