    You're right.

I went to look at one and it was completely misleading.

If anything, the one I saw was a silver colour. No green whatsoever.

Don't expect accurate fuel economy figures. They were too optimistic on the diesel one too.

There were some awesome contract hire deals on that when it first came out and with a minimal bik and no ved it was a no-brainer...except that in the phev you could only get a 5 seater rather than a 7 seater, otherwise we probably would have got one at the time.
    I think....

Bizarrely the thing that stops me looking at electric cars is the design. Apart from the tesla which is not really very practical, all the other manufacturers seems to deliberately make their cars ugly... trying to discourage them next to their normal cars??

I actually agree with you on that one - I suspect the designer were given a brief to make it look 'different and futuristic' so they came up with odd shapes, lots of angles and much bigger on the outside than the inside.

Actually, the one thing that really surprised me about the Tesla (and the BMW i3 for that matter, not seen the i8 close up) is that the interiors are far, far more spacious than for a petrol car of similar size.

I'm not sure that the interior space is laid out that effectively, so I don't dispute they aren't great for cargo, but they are far better than they appear to be from the outside.

Case in point - in the Tesla you can fit two pretty genuine child seats in the boot, and still have the 'front boot' (where the engine would normally be) to fit some modest packages.

You wouldn't normally expect a car of that form to be a 7 seater.

maybe if they started rolling out electric and petrol/diesel cars that looked the same they would have more success...

I like the idea of electric - most of my journeys are short, city type and it would be great. If they can get the shape right and bring the price down to below carbon emitting cars then that would do it for me!

Range anxiety is normally cured when you realise you don't travel more than 30 miles on any given day.

Cos if you fast charge the battery above 80% it gets hot and degrades so you probably only charge to 100% using much less current and thus taking proportionately longer.

Although apparently the latest leafs continue to fast charge above 80% so we will have to see what is reported re battery longevity. Nissan have a battery health meter which goes up to 12 bars - you get 12 bars if it is still at 85% of original capacity and then the other bars are lost linearly - I wonder why they decided on that scale....

I work for Nissan only rapid charge to 80% the new 30kw batteries take a bit longer now to reach that.

It's not that we'd not all love an electric car, it's that the majority of people can't afford them.

I might get one in 20 years' time when they're what all cars are.... so the same price as any other car might be.

Also, I read that replacement batteries on electric cars were £8k (although I did read that 3-5 years ago).

It doesn't matter how fabulous something is .... how eco-whatever it is ... how money-saving it is .... if you can't afford it, that's it!

As it is, too, those charger points aren't everywhere. e.g. if I drove to somebody's house 300 miles away and waved my plug at them they'd say "what's that then?" .... no idea where a recharge could be obtained.

My commute is 40 miles each way, OH's is 60 (although admittedly not daily).

I also regularly do 600+ mile drives through Europe, usually when it's significantly cheaper than a last minute flight, so there's that to take into consideration too.

If there was a decent diesel hybrid (I've not found one yet), preferably made in Britain, I'd consider one, but wouldn't go all electric.
