    Could I ask...

One of the posters mentioned you're only allowed four nationwide accounts. Is that just four flex accounts or across their range?

    Thank you.

Just had email from moneysuperrewards saying my £100 cheque is on it's way, wasn't sure I would get it as already had a nationwide flexdirect account when I applied for this one.

My switch was completed on the 2nd October.

I just got a email too saying my cheque is on the way, and I too already had a flex direct account when I switched,

I know I wont get 5% on the second account, I will empty the account into TSB once the cheque is received.

I have switched out the other Flexdirect which is in progress so I will only have one, and know I have to close the account for a year to be enable to get the 5% again in a year.

    Switch completed 29th September.

My understanding is that theoretically one can have a max of 4 current accounts, across the range of current accounts offered by Nationwide.

However, I've managed to get a fifth one in respect of this offer, and yet my last-but-one application was declined , the customer services operator stating it was because I had 4 accounts already

So it seems to be an idiosyncratic system, and I guess it's worth applying for more than the 4th account if one isn't bothered about any upcoming real need for proper credit ( re too many searches)

Can I ask the last 2 posters if, like me, they did the bare minimum of transferring an old account with a low balance and no direct debits or any meaningful transactions. My concern is that the £100 cheque may not be forthcoming unless I use the flexdirect properly (I can't get the 5% interest rate as not a year since I closed the last one, and hence don't want to do the £1000 monthly funding, etc etc )

I transferred a BOS account I didn't use with a zero balance and no DD's, on the nationwide opening I transferred £1000 into it and straight out, no plans to keep feeding it £1000 though as like you won't get the 5% as have already had that this year on the other flex account.

I had £5 in the account I switched no DD, and I too wont get the 5% so wont be funding it going forward although I did transfer 1k in the day after the switch completed and transferred it back out again, so its sitting with £5 from the switch credit in it.

  • Am I right in thinking for the purposes of this offer there is no requirement to fund, even once, the account with £1,000 unless one wants or is eligible for the 5% interest?

I was also wondering if opening a second FD account when the prior one is still getting 5%, resets the 12 month clock beyond when the 5% would have run out, meaning the second account should be closed at the same time or before the first account loses its 5% interest eligibility so as to serve the 12 month period before a FD account re qualifies for 5%? (If that makes sense:()

When you open the second account this is a new flex direct so you will need to wait till a year of this date and not the year of the expiry of the first flex direct.

This is the same position I am in, my current flex direct is due to end on the 5th November and will be swtiched out to TSB, I opened a new flex direct account end of September, when the first flex direct is closed as part of the switching process I will still have the new flexdirect left. My plan is then to downgrade this account in branch to the flex account and at this point the 12 month count down begins... (an alternative will be to switch it out but I am running out of incentives and banks left to open account with, although that said Tesco has just allowed me to open a new tesco account a month after I switched my last one out. Thought I would try as I was going to use tescos for 3% instead of Santander when the fee goes up next year.

So it seems some banks/BS are not that fussy about accounts being reopened after you have switched away from them.

Tried last night using the MSE link but when transferred through to Nationwide they wouldn't let me start the application as their link to the CRAs was down. Suggested I try again from 6am today.

Completed the MSM/MSE form again this morning but this time it wouldn't let me proceed as "that email address has already been used for this offer", so used a different email address.

    This post serves 2 purposes:

    1. To warn others not to apply late at night, and
    2. To help secure the £100 from MSM/MSE if there are problems later because I completed the form twice. :)
Didn't need to worry! E-mail received today to original e-mail address confirming 'the cheque is in the post'.
