Does anyone else still use soap instead of shower gel in the shower?

Mostly I use shower gel, but sometimes I'll take a notion to use soap in the shower - there's always a bar there for baths anyway. The type of soap varies - currently it's Johnsons baby soap with honey.
  • I've always used soap and these days I like to use medicated soap on my face, such as Dettol. The only place I keep a bottle of hand wash (Carex) is by the kitchen sink! Still, I think this soap v gel, etc. is probably just a generation thing. :p

  • I use Dove moisturising soap on my face as I am allergic to anything stronger. However, my wasteful husband gets through a bottle of expensive Original Source mint shower gel every four days so I have to track it down when it's on offer at half price and stock up. I have just bought 20 bottles!

How?? Does he pour it down the drain!? I wouldn't use that much even if I were washing myself, my thigh length hair and using it as conditioner every day...

Wow! What's he do? Drink it?! :p

It's on offer at Tescos atm....just incase you need anymore! :p Although you probably already know that :)
  • I still use soap in the shower, with a flannel so I can be assured of a thorough clean of my skin; also to use the flannel after to mop up the wet on the skin to save excess moisture being left on towels or bathrobes.

  • I have returned to a bar of soap for hand washing and in the shower. It is massively cheaper. I buy soap without sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium tallowate (smelly animal bits) and no, it's not more expensive but I really have to look at the labels and choice is limited. Sodium lauryl sulphate is drying to my skin and my skin has been much improved since I stopped using it. I bought several bars of reduced own brand soap from Sainsburys a while back and I'm still using it. The teens don't like it so they buy their own expensive hand gels and shower gels - even cheaper for me so quids in!

I take small bars of soap on holiday to get around the 100ml liquid rules, usually have a stash given as gifts.

Day to day, I use Dr Bronners fairtade organic liquid soap. It's expensive compared to most shower gels that can be bought for a quid but each £5 bottle will last me an age as a tiny amount goes really far. It feels really good on my skin and the fragrance is really good.

"Dr Bronner’s soaps are 100% true pure-castile soaps that use certified organic ingredients under the fair trade act without animal testing, and are mostly 100% vegan..Our products are packaged using 100% post-consumer recycled plastic".

The following page describes their production methods and ingredients.

I don't like the religious text on the label though.

  • I've recently started using soap again after many years of using shower gels.

I've noticed that my skin feels better so I don't need to use as much, if any, moisturiser and soap lasts so much longer than shower gel.
