JM -- she's at the very end now. Apparently today was a better day for her. I am wondering if it will happen on my birthday as its quite a significant date in the family. My aunt is also not your fault WaS. It's harder for my mum who is adamant that she will not break down and won't accept any comfort. Sorry about your friend JM.

I'm not sure I have any goals. Mr CP always makes a fuss which is nice but I'd quite like to skip this one.

Birthdays are over-rated - go and do something lovely with Mr CP and stuff everyone else.
I sometimes think they're a bit like New Years Eve where you presume everyone else is out having a wild time partying when actually they'd rather be at home with their feet up.
(My twin didn't send me a card one year because he forgot. Oddly enough he didn't forget his own birthday.)
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Code, I gave up on birthdays about three years ago as they made me so unhappy. The last remaining person who used to send me a card, I asked her not to any more. I never tell anyone when it is now, either! That way I can ignore it and it helps.

Remember, it's just a random date on the calendar. You could just treat it like that if you want. It's just another day!

The only problem I can see is whether Mr. CP remembers. I think from last year maybe he doesn't? Forgive me if I'm wrong. (I can see that that would really hurt, though, and makes it harder to forget the date). :A

Well, we're in our fourth hotel, and are here for two more nights. (It's 8.00 am. Have had breakfast and walked around the gardens and caught up with the thread).

We're right up high in the mountains, in the middle of the tea-growing country. All the slopes are covered in tea plantations, and most of the estates have scottish names, due to the Victorians who started them! Yesterday we visited a tea factory and saw how black tea is made. They still use machinery that is 100 years old! I have bought some very special teas but crikey it was expensive! Harrods prices! I found that a bit disconcerting.
Sri Lanka is starting to cotton onto the fact that tourists have money, but I'm afraid they might be going over the top. So if you want to come here, come before it gets spoiled by tourist development!
This hotel is the least good so far, as far as service and amenities are concerned, but the others were fantastic! Strange, as I thought it'd be the best, being the old colonial administrative headquarters!

The town has a red brick Victorian post office, and Sri Lanka has retained the red pillar boxes for post! I saw one that had GR on it ! (King George!)

We're singing this morning then seeing some sights this afternoon.

Oh, by the way, I've had to sit in the lobby to post this, as there's no free internet in the rooms, unlike the other hotels, and it works out expensive to have it in the room, given that I'm not in the room long! On the other hand, the laundry is much cheaper than European hotels, so I'm indulging having that done! And it's ironed! I never iron! :T

So for the next two days I might be 'quiet!' :D

Edit. Funny about the pancake hoppers. The only hoppers I've had were string hoppers..........like very thin noodles, very light, and sort of stuck together. I really like them!
I'll ask our guide about the pancake type.

    Good luck today, melly.

Storm Imogen is here. My windchime is going crazy.

Day 15 of the never ending period. I think I will call the doctor later.

  • Happy (?) Monday everyone.

Saturday started OK, went for breakfast with the in-law family for BIL birthday, did some tidying up, took dogs for a long walk with the MIL (we get on very well), stocked up on firewood, plumber arrived on time, as did the Wickes delivery. I was pottering around when the plumber announced he had to leave me with no hot water or central heating which took the biscuit a bit so that stressed me out majorly. I ended up sleeping on the sofa with the wood burner stocked up so not the best night, and I really missed the OH who was away.

Yesterday was awful. I came so close to leaving/running away/I don't know. Took dogs out in the forest behind our house and they ran off and disappeared for an hour and a half. I went mental, had a breakdown in the forest and was sobbing my heart out, calling the dogs. I actually walked out of the forest as I thought I would just abandon the dogs but turned right back around to go find them. Ended up climbing over multiple barbed wire fences, across two large fields and finally found them in another private forest, absolutely caked in mud. Must have been chasing something and one of them lost her collar and halti, hurt her paw, and the other one who had his cruciate repaired last year is looking like it might be going again - £4000 down the drain if that's the case and I can't afford any more surgery. Frog marched them home, hosed them down and sobbed my heart out again. Did the ironing, tried to clean up a bit more and made beds up. OH was worried and wanted to come home but I'm too embarrassed for this to be affecting him more than it is. He's a bit short tempered too with everything going on, so we both feel we are on eggshells at the moment. Luckily heating and water was sorted by end of yesterday but I am exhausted now.

Awake at 4am again today although managed to drift off at 5 again for 45 minutes until my alarm went off. Three mega long days at work ahead, but hopefully get some rest at weekend. OH is away in the US all next week which I'm not happy about :( I'm hoping my referral for psychiatrist comes through today so I can get something booked in. Really, really struggling :(

Oh Charlie no wonder you feel bad. You're living in an unfinished house with pets and your OH is away. I'd be feeling rubbish too. I know that feeling when the dog runs away or gets injured. Hope psych appointment comes through quickly.

Pyxis, it sounds amazing aside from the touristy bit. I know that tourism makes the money and my home town depends on tourism but it always feels a bit sad when something lovely is just used to exploit tourists. Like Loch Ness. Your trip sounds just incredible though. Photos missus. I want photos!!

Ww - go and see the doctor. Its possibly nothing but good to have on record in case it happens again or becomes a thing.

WaS - this ESA nonsense will pass soon and you can get back on with loveliness and living your life. Remember that everyone has limitations and yours are just different. They don't define you as you have so many good points. You remind me a bit of my mum in that way. She was turned down for ESA when she had ME and couldn't work because she just couldn't bring herself to put on the form how limited she was. Trust me, in the office yours will just be another form that someone has to read in a day and rubber stamp. It's a horrible pain in the backside but you are awesome and if you can go and pet sloths and make friends with llamas and drink champagne in John Lewis, then a wee form is not going to beat you, no matter how annoying and instrusive and scary it is.

Pyxis - Mr CP would be very cross at the idea that he would forget my birthday. He likes to make a fuss and take me to a posh hotel and a nice dinner. I'm more likely to forget birthdays than him. For all I complain about him, he is a good man. Yesterday he gave up watching one of the most important football matches in the season for his team and drove my parents to see my aunt through some truly awful driving conditions as my dad can't drive anymore.

I can't believe we're up to Storm Imogen already. It seems we've had one every week since the start of the year. I think we are only supposed to get rain here so fingers crossed as I really need to be in the office today.

  • What do people think about telling their boss at work about how they are feeling? I have only been in this job a week (although with company for 8 years) but I'm worried I may need some time off? Once I get through this month things should become far easier in work - I've taken a pay cut and dropped two grades to do what I think I will love, and I'm essentially in a training position for a year. Don't want to scare him off though!
