Thanks WaS
It's not pathetic or daft at all. I always feel disappointed too. In my case, it's probably because I'm so darn competitive! :rotfl: But I start to worry that it means that my eyes have got a lot worse, and if the opticians pauses or ums and arghs, I worry he's seen something. It all stems from my Mam's problems with her eyes I'm sure.
Do it if you can WaS, as my Dad always said, "you only get one set of eyes, taken are of them".0 -
Ok, I am going to give myself a goal to do it before the end of the year. That sounds like a long time but considering I haven't managed it for 10 years it's a very short time! I have scarring on my cornea from untreated Blepharitis (guess who wouldn't go to the hospital until she was in agony?) and light sensitivity so it is very important that I do go really. I just have to cope with feeling like a failure when the little letters turn blurry and not apologise to the optician for it! He gave me a very odd look the last time I did that...Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Please do go WaS, having properly corrected vision make such a difference. The last time I had my spectacles replaced I was finding that my eyes were getting very tired by the evening and I was rubbing them all the time. It turned out my prescription hadn't changed very much, but it was enough and gettng new specs made a big difference.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230

WaS,
Do they use little pictures for young children on the eye test? Would using the children's charts make it a new experience rather than trigger old failures?
Are you having a home visit from the optician?
code,
that picture is great. It made me smile.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

Just remember, you are not a failure if you can't read them. I hardly could this time, I struggled. I got a few letters, but not them all, and my prescription is not really that strong. Only people with 20/20 vision can see them extremely clearly.
Go for it WaS, you can do it! You can get yourself some cool new specs whilst you are there!
Eta: D had Blepharitis and he said it was a really nasty thing to have and his eyes were so sensitive to the light.onomatopoeia99 wrote: »Please do go WaS, having properly corrected vision make such a difference. Same with me. I could tell my right eye didn't seem right, it was feeling more strained and I am always rubbing it. Sure enough, that eye has got slightly worse, and my prescription has been adjusted slightly.0 -
I do think you're a wonderful lot. Every single one of you! What a great, supportive community this is!
WaS - would it help if you felt how satisfying it is for the optician if you can't see letters and then he sorts it out for you with some new glasses?
melly - good luck with the Director, but I don't think you'll need it, IYSWIM.

I also have dry eye syndrome so use drops up to 10 times a day or my eyes become very painful and itchy. I do see an ophthalmologist at the hospital every 6 months but they don't deal with the glasses side of things. I really have no excuse for not going, I only have corneal scarring because I put off what would have been simple to treat for so long. It's entirely my own fault.
A children's chart may well help, whitewing. I honestly feel like I have let the optician down when I can't see the chart and that I am not good enough. I also know how ridiculous that is. Please make sure I go before Christmas everyone, it's not like I even have to pay for new glasses as an excuse.
Oooh JM, I like the idea that it's satisfying for the optician. I am making sure they have a job and can feed their families by needing glasses, yes? There is mileage in that to manipulate myself myself into it...Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

codemonkey wrote: »The other thing I wanted to bring up is the answering communication thing. I am ashamed to say I am poor at keeping in touch. Part of it is the esteem thing as I wonder who would want to hear from me. The other part is just poor organisation on my part.
Here's what happens when I get a text, fb message or email. If I'm not doing anything, I will answer quickly. If I'm busy, I will read it and decide to answer when I have time. If I'm coding, I lose track of all time so may not read it for hours otherwise I risk getting out of the zone.
So, I've got a message I haven't dealt with immediately. To be honest, after that I generally forget it's there or I remember it, but decide it's too late to respond then forget again. 8f it's a request to do stuff socially, I panic about being out of my comfort zone and try to avoid thinking about it. Its almost never about me not wanting to talk to the other person and more about me being generally rubbish as social stuff really. No wonder I don't have many friends.
I could have written all of that, word for word. I'm awful at keeping in touch with people, and the longer I leave it the harder it is and the more I wait, and then I get cross with myself for prevaricating. And part of it is self esteem, I worry that people have more important things to do and won't want to have their day interrupted by a message from me.
I can get quite obsessive about computer games though, and about other things that interest me (typically nerdy /geeky person behaviour and I am both of those things). I wasn't able to make my ex see that it didn't mean I wasn't interested in her, nor that me spending my time doing that was (in my mind) no diffferent to her spending her free time at the stables doing stuff with her horse, which I didn't resent at all.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
If I took others playing computer games personally my relationship with WaSp wouldn't have lasted a year. He spends at least 5 hours a day playing computer games and if he doesn't have time during the day he stays up all night to play instead! I have been similar on and off over the years but not quite so consistently. Right now I'm playing a game with my american friend and we probably spend the same 5 hours playing it every other day. Sometimes WaSp and I can sit in the same room and hardly talk to each other for 8 hours solid, there is just whining in my case and in Wasp's case yelling when we both die in our games.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France
