I also hate those brighthouse type places or payday loans with exorbitant interest rates, because they prey on the desperate who might not have the capacity to realise it's just going to get them into more trouble. I had a friend at uni who was tight for money and she'd use those cheque cashing services for her grant and loan cheques and waiting for paydays because she didn't have enough money to wait for them to clear but of course they took a percentage so she was left short the next month and she just got into more and more debt.

Just seen one of the adverts for these loans involving a boiler not working and getting a loan at well over 1200% so she can fix it the next day and I just think, what's wrong with boiling a kettle and washing in the sink and/or showering at school/work. Most workplaces have showers for cyclists etc.

Funny you should be talking about this as I've just been ranting about the number of posts I'm seeing on local sites from people 'desperate' for stuff to furnish flats that they've just moved into and then refusing offers of free items because it's not what they wanted! There was a post this morning saying that they were 'Desperate for a fridge, washing machine, sofa and 6-seater dining room table'!! How the heck is a dining room table a 'desperate need'?! It then got me onto the people who post in baby groups wanting a free/cheap pram then turning their noses up at offers because they're not the right colour/brand! If you want something in particular, earn the money and buy it yourself otherwise you accept something with good grace!

What ever happened to starting out with the bare bones and slowly building up to nicer things? Brighthouse et al have a lot to answer for, everyone wants the best, and they want it now.

I know I've just spent a lot on frivolous Emm@ Bridgew@ter tableware, but a) I can afford it and b) DH and I have lived in our flat for 7 years and we've had a mixture of a hand-me-down dinner service from my parents and supermarket stuff all that time and decided that it's now time to upgrade, like normal, sensible people!

Anyway, Tea, make the decision about which rooms to use for which purpose then get on with making a beautiful space and share pics so I can swoon with jealousy! Which room gets the best light? That should be the craft room. Moving your bedroom might be a nice idea too, as well as redecorating to get rid of all signs of FOH!

I agree that you Birdie. We recently got a new sofa and instead of selling it decided to give it away. It was still in really good condition. I thought it would be snapped up but people wanted to see photos, they wanted us to deliver it, they didn't like the colour etc. It's bleedin free. My first sofa was an ancient old lady one but it was a handdown and I was grateful. I just chucked a throw over it. I eventually managed to give it to a woman who was so happy about it she kept emailing me to say thank you.

People on these sites are crazy. I've seen requests for laptops, ipads and cars.

I also think it's ok to buy new stuff and treat yourself but I think you do appreciate it more if you've made do with hand me downs and saved for it or you don't get new stuff a lot. There's nothing like buying something you love and grin everytime you see it.

I had to leave the local free facebook group as it was winding me up too much - some people are just unbelievable in what they think is an essential, and rude with it!

When was the interview? Perhaps they are still deciding? Did you go to the Coven interview.

Fwiw I haven't heard from the agency again. So I took a cue from you lot and made a LinkedIn profile.

Hehe - now that is a cake!!

Birthday is pretty dull so far - so standard for a day at work. I've brought food in (cakes and fruit - it's January!). Some do here, some don't. I tend to err on the side of generosity... useful when it comes to workplace snacks, less so when it comes to over-investing emotionally in strangers. But I digress....

Now I'm not sure what I've digressed from. I'm filling up the boredom with codeine, it may be starting to show!

Our first sofas were a pair of really ugly (but stupidly comfy!) old lady 2-seaters that we bought for £140 (for both!) from a charity shop. When we could finally afford a new sofa and armchair we were beyond pleased! I still love my armchair, even Baby Bird knows that it's 'Mummy's chair!' :p

When we did our big clear out of Baby Bird's room at the weekend we decided to just send the lot to the charity shop as we knew we'd just get too annoyed at trying to sell it/give it away on FB! Would rather give the stuff to charity for them to make money and save my sanity! ;)
