Didn't get internet back until lunchtime today and consequently had loads of catching up to do, so two pages after you stopped talking about this ...codemonkey wrote: »I like Pretty Woman bit don't see why people think it's so romantic. I'm not a fan, or of Grease. My favourite escapist romantic fantasies are Strictly ballroom and Some kind of wonderful (best kiss ever committed to film in this). Next bit is not a penguin but a spoiler for Pretty in pink, so I've "penguined" it

Evening shipmates,
I need some ideas for a 30 birthday. Its my SIL she has had difficult couple of years. Her father has terminal cancer.
I want to do something really nice for her and only her without her two boys.
Could do afternoon tea somewhere posh. It does not have to be with me it could be something that she can do with my brother or her mother or even her father.
Yours

Don't know where you are, Calley, but if you're near London, one thing that's rather nice is an afternoon Tea Dance at the Waldorf!
If you're not near London, there may be something similar at a swanky hotel!
In the Palm Court room, there's a live band, playing a variety of music styles, so you can have a slap-up afternoon tea, and dance! All served by deferential white-coated waiters!
If it's a birthday, you can pre-order a birthday cake, and get the band to play Happy Birthday!
I took a couple of relatives on two occasions, for an eighteenth birthday and an eightieth birthday respectively, it was great fun! There was a wide variety of ages, from young teens, right through every age group.
And it was surprisingly affordable!(I just lurve spiders!)

My brother and I took my parents to tea at the Savoy for their 40th wedding anniversary as part of a weekend of things, it was superb. Over £30/person and that was more than 10 years ago though.
They didn't hear where we asked the taxi driver to take us, when we pulled up outside my mother said to the driver "I think we've come to the wrong place!":rotfl:Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

About a 100 miles away.
I have a couple of months to look in to it.

Happy Birthday, tea! sorry I am late!
I was sent to a food bank once by my social worker. I had just moved into this flat it was unfurnished so I had no furniture apart from a cooker, not even a bed. I had a full credit card from moving fees and deposit and rent in advance and they hadn't sorted out my benefits a month later. WaSp had given up his job to look after me so we had no income at all. We lived off plain, dried pasta for a week then we simply had nothing left. We had no car so couldn't even get to Milliefleur's. My social worker gave me a note for a food bank and they completely saved us. I had rice, pasta and tins of vegetables and some wonderful person had thought to include a small pot of basil! I could have kissed them for that, that one little pot made plain pasta and rice taste so much better. I honestly became tearful over a pot of basil. Combined with a few tins of tomatoes we managed to make the food last for another 2 weeks until my benefits came through.
My social worker also applied to a local charity for me who furnished my flat for minimum cost and I didn't have to pay them until I got my benefits. They gave me a bed, a sofa and a chest of drawers all for £10 each and threw in a free rug for a bit of luxury. The kindness of others totally saved us, the only things I owned was my laptop, clothes, blankets and my cuddly toys, WaSp had already sold his computer. All we could take was what we could both carry on the train. I am beyond grateful to everyone involved so it really can be a lifeline to some people. I know people do take advantage but I do try to donate when I can because there are people like me who really need the help out there. If you do give remember things like herbs and spices, it can make such a difference from making a plate of plain carbs into a meal.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Is it just me or is MSE having problems?
happy birthday tea. We hope there is cake of the chocolate variety?
Just in case people don't browse the codes bit of the forum, amazon is doing £10 off if you spend £50, till midnight tonight, if you buy from them not another seller. Just in case anyone has something expensive they were going to buy. I actually couldn't think of anything I really wanted so Gitdog now has enough food to last him for 6 months. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
