My mother is a functioning paranoid schizophrenic WW.
I have had no contact from 21. My brother has had no contact from 21 the littlest still sees her occasionally

The no contact was my decision

I saw a councillor when dad was dying and she only knew that I had the care of my brothers and mother from about 8/9 she didn't know the other stuff

She asked if I was angry with my dad cos.of the amount I had to deal with the answer is no I knew no different.
It was the early 80s WW different time.

S'S came round for my brother and bruises my mother put her shiny face on and they left

Oh melly. I wish we could give a great big cuddle to the little girl that you were. No one deserves to have been let down by so many adults. Apart from us on the thread, who have you told in real life?

(If I log off, it is not because of anything anyone has said, just that I am needing to go to bed - been burning the candle at both ends)

I am glad you have told us too. I hope it is the start of a far better period of your life. What a start your OH is for you to be able to share it with him; that cannot have been easy for either of you. I hope that, in time, you will be able to discuss it with your gp or therapist, if the moment seems right.

    You are amazing.

    melly

Just to be functioning is amazing after what happened, but to be so knowledgable and caring and self aware is beyond that.

I am so sorry for what happened but I know you do not want to be defined by that or feel like a victim.

You care about other people and want to make a difference and stand up for the right thing even if it rebounds on you which is so brave and principled.

You do deserve better and I hope you will get it.

I think it made me self aware elona
I read a lot of very dry psychology and psychiatry text books in order to understand my mother.
It helped me.decide not to have children (that and the thought of doing this to another human)

If I had to had dad I would be a hell of at worse
