MU - there's a big difference (imho) between a friendly 'love' in a shop or similar and a sleazy 'hun', 'babe' or indeed 'sexypants'.
  • I hate it when shop assistants call me love, I find it patronising. I don't know why, just do. Sorry MU :o Teas right though, there's a huge difference between that and what Calley mentioned :)
  • I cannot imagine any circumstances in which I'd call someone "sexypants", or "babe" for that matter

Context is everything. Love, Babs, Duck - all fine in different parts if the country aimed at both men and women as a general greeting. It's easy enough to tell when you're being patronised and have to deploy the death look or take your custom elsewhere.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Before I went out last night, I popped down to the club that my Uncle is president of as he'd invited someone from the charity that we did the NY dip for to come down and have the cheque presented to them.

The Vice President of the charity came down which was lovely, and my Uncle said a few words about what we'd done and why the chairty is so important to us. He was like you come and stand at the front while I'm speaking and I was like "I'm ok, I'll sit down until you've finished talking and then stand up", but no, he made me stand there infront of 50 folk!

I didn't mind really as I know most of them quite well as they've known me since I was born, and my Mam & Dad met at the club, but I still don't like standing up infront of a lot of people. I don't know how public speakers do it!

Oh yeah, without a doubt. Most definitely a regional thing. I think it's because a lot of teenage/early 20's lasses in our town use it all the time, and it's like "you're about 12, stop calling me love!" :rotfl:

What I don't mind which you get mainly off older men, is Pet. Now I know a lot of people will probably find that patronising, but I guess that's what I grew up with so am used to it.

MU I agree with Tea and GGirl its about context.

In on line dating they are always say you are gorgeous, sexy and call you babe and hun and lush etc. I find it very uncomfortable and patronising as well.

No hang over and I was awake by 8am and even told my lodger to get up 10 mins early as its scraping weather :rotfl:

FB, I did spend most of yesterday watching youtube vids so that might be why I managed to crack it.

I am 43 so have to be careful I don't look like mutton dressed as lamb. And those girls on youtube are a lot younger and a lot more stunning than me :(

Mind you the difference that it makes when they have makeup on is amazing you would never believe that it was the same girl. Granted some have way too much on and as my dad use to say when I was teenager I looked like a clown or that I had put it on with a trowel

Looks like its going to be sunny but cold today here. Need to finish getting ready in other words put my face on and socks might be helpful.

Oh forget to mention I weigh in on a saturday morning and I had lost 1lb. As a certain supermarket says every little helps.

    Yours

    Calley

I'm from a 'duck' part of the country, although you don't hear it so much these days.

Sexypants was an online message, not in a shop you'll be pleased to hear! Although it might brighten a dull trip to asda I suppose :D

    Sexypants = blegh!

We get Love a lot where we are, and a bit further up North we get Pet a lot. I don't mind it too much, but it really does matter who is saying it and the way it's being said! No-one at work ever refers to anyone else in that way, for instance, but in shops you'll get kindly old ladies calling you love, dear, sweetie etc which can be quite nice. :)

Hope your night wasn't too soggy WaS! Have they managed to get in to Mr Upstairses now? I'm sure you'll be able to claim on the landlord's insurance for a new bed!!

"lush"? That'll be the Bristolians then, especially if it's "gert lush". :D

I spent yesterday evening completely failing to write a profile on pof, even missed the snooker. One of my friends told me years ago that "you have to sell yourself". I couldn't sell water to a thirsty person in a desert, so that's not going to go well :o

I'll have another go at the weekend.
