Before I went out last night, I popped down to the club that my Uncle is president of as he'd invited someone from the charity that we did the NY dip for to come down and have the cheque presented to them.

The Vice President of the charity came down which was lovely, and my Uncle said a few words about what we'd done and why the chairty is so important to us. He was like you come and stand at the front while I'm speaking and I was like "I'm ok, I'll sit down until you've finished talking and then stand up", but no, he made me stand there infront of 50 folk!

I didn't mind really as I know most of them quite well as they've known me since I was born, and my Mam & Dad met at the club, but I still don't like standing up infront of a lot of people. I don't know how public speakers do it!
You know Georgie, just standing still in front of people is far worse than talking to them, so good on you! When you're talking, you're dynamic; your expressions, your body language, etc., there's a lot of movement. Just standing there......what do you do? Do you smile? Look serious? Where do you put your hands? Etc. etc. so you did jolly well! :T

What I don't mind which you get mainly off older men, is Pet. Now I know a lot of people will probably find that patronising, but I guess that's what I grew up with so am used to it.
I like Pet! It reminds me of "When the Boat Comes In" and that was the first time I'd heard it. Plus it can be used for men and women, and all ages, so is great! I think it's a nice affectionate term, but not so much that it can't be used for eg customers, too.
For a brief time I had a lovely .geordie boyfriend, and he called me Pet.can't remember if he called me Hinny too.
"lush"? That'll be the Bristolians then, especially if it's "gert lush". :D

I spent yesterday evening completely failing to write a profile on pof, even missed the snooker. One of my friends told me years ago that "you have to sell yourself". I couldn't sell water to a thirsty person in a desert, so that's not going to go well :o

I'll have another go at the weekend.
Perhaps you should get a friend to write it for you?

You lot need to write both of our profiles! I'd offer to help ono but obviously I've gone a bit wrong with mine :rotfl:.

Am really irked at some mates today. Due to general life we now only get together a few times a year. We've been planning a spa weekend for months (it takes us that long to find a weekend where everyone's free). We were supposed to be away this weekend, but the person booking the hotel didn't actually book it. So plan B was to all go to one of our houses, go for afternoon tea, drink prosecco and basically put the world to rights... was perfectly happy with that as an alternative.

Now (with 2 days to go), it's somehow gone from a weekend catch up to a couple of hours in Birmingham, not even meeting till nearly lunchtime.

Part of me thinks why even bother.

There was also a suggestion of getting a cottage later in the year and all taking families. Now I have no problem at all with their associated husbands, boyfriends and genuinely lovely children - but hello?! Who the hell am I supposed to take then?! For people that are supposed to be really good mates there's been pretty much total radio silence since I split up with FOH and this weekend falling through has really peed me off.

    Hmmm.

Do you know Tea, there are friends, and then there are people you knew once who have become little more than casual acquaintances, if that. :(

Time to call it a day, perhaps?

Will you enjoy their company once you're there?

I've got a couple of mates who always seem far too busy to manage to meet up (which is somehow my fault for having a boyfriend...) and I often reach the "why bother" stage when trying to organise things with them but it's pretty much always lovely to see them when we finally do get together.

Have you spoken to them about the lack of contact since your split with FOH? It might be that they don't know what to say and figure you'll get in touch if you need anything. It could of course also be that they're selfish cows who aren't worth your time but it's worth pointing it out to them because they won't know that they've hurt you with their actions/inaction if you don't tell them.

They are really good friends generally, and I'd hate to lose contact. I'm sure no matter what we end up doing at the weekend we'll have a great time. Gah.... just feeling sorry for myself today and that was the cr.appy icing on the poo cake.

Don't know if anyone else has been reading the Losing Friends thread but I'd definitely count them in "could call at 3am" category, although I haven't actually done that since our drunken uni days :)

It's perfectly understandable to be upset when plans change to something which, while it will still be good, aren't as good as what you'd been looking forward to.

Even though you haven't had to there's a lot to be said for having friends you know you could call at 3am and it's definitely worth hanging on to them, even if they do annoy you sometimes :D

Have a lovely time with them on Saturday and, even if it feels like you're being overly demanding, do try to bring up how disappointed you were that a weekend with them became a much shorter get together. I'm sure they'll understand that it's because you love them and want to spend more time with them.

Can anyone help with a clothes shopping problem? I want some chiffon type long sleeved blouse/shirts with collar for work and I have trawled the internet and can't find any that might fit - I need a size 54" over the chest. They don't have to be chiffon, can be polyester type stuff, just not cotton or linen so they don't have to be ironed. I was looking for black, or maybe a patterned one that hides lumps and bumps. I am really struggling to find anything and have exhausted all the places I know online and ebay that do stuff for larger chest sizes.

The last one I found was from Balsamik - http://www.balsamik.com/En/v-neck-long-sleeved-printed-shirt-with-rounded-hem-brown-dark-all-over-printed.htm?ProductId=010014624&FiltreCouleur=6516&t=1 - which just fits, but I was really disappointed with the quality. I ordered about 6 things from them but had to send all but this shirt back as they would crease too much.

    Anyone got any ideas?
