You see WaS, we all learn so much from this thread.... information about MH issues, a chance to find out more about the benefits system, in-depth discussion of Muppet Christmas carol :D

I honestly don't know where I'd be without you lot xx

Ditto tea. You lot are the best x x

I particularly enjoyed the discussion on MCC! :D I wanted to watch the other Christmasy one with Pepe in it but couldn't find it anywhere. Will have to hunt out the DVD.

Our Christmas has been over a while. I'm that much of a Scrooge our decorations came down on Boxing day!

What I find sad about the benefits is how many genuine people seem to limit their existence because they are worried about the effect on benefits. As a simplistic example - the theoretical person who is so worried that they will be judged capable of working so they develop a phobia of going out of the house at all as it is subconsciously easier to think if I can't leave the house then it's more obvious I can't work.

As I said, this is a theoretical example, as issues raised on this thread are a lot more complex than that.

I am feeling better after my virus but completely wiped out by my first day back at work. I came home and slept for 3 hours.

I did have the unexpected benefit that my work clothes felt slightly looser this morning.

First Saturday night of 2016 and I am so bored I could cry, only I can't even summon up the enthusiasm for that.

BBC4 usually keeps me entertained from 9pm on a Saturday with detective series from around Europe. Some new episodes of Il giovane Montalbano started today.

My DH loves that, ono. I didn't realise it had started again.

I have been lurking on the KonMarie thread. I stumbled across it last year and have just seen the new 2016 thread. I tend to find I can only deal with one main thread at a time in MSE. I used to be on the dehoarding thread before I joined WaS here. Don't worry, WaS, I'm not going anywhere, just feeling a new urge to declutter and reorganise. Last year was difficult as DH and I didn't seem to have much time off together. It had an impact on the 'organising' household jobs because the car wasn't available or DH needed to help move something etc. This year his shift patterns have changed (for about the fifth time in as many months, which is really beginning to get on my wick), but this latest batch will be a lot better, I think.

DH also has been thinking about his plans for the year. I am relieved as they seem to be more realistic and celebratory of small changes. His overall long term aims are the same but he seems to have finally lost the attitude of 'if he can't do it exactly how he wanted as quickly as he wanted, then it isn't worth bothering with'.

I can't sleep at the moment due to being dehydrated and my nap earlier. I ought to make a headstart on packing away xmas decorations. I am fine with doing a bit at a time but I have got really bad lately with actually starting jobs, even if they are things I want to do.

I am still up and feeling quite pleased with myself. I have taken down a lot of the decorations and the room looks so much bigger now. I feel like it is ready for a new beginning. I have had an idea or two about how to reorganise things in the house so I will need to get DH to buy into it. He can be easy-going but if he doesn't think it is a good idea he will dig his heels in.

Am going to have vitamin c and water before I go to bed. I feel gently relaxed.

In the morning I will have to pack the decorations etc away. I have gathered everything up into the kitchen and will go through it with DH to see if there is anything we want to get rid of. Some things are a little battered now.

    The regular repost.....

(The thread etiquette will be reposted every ten or so pages.)
    ........:starmod:......................................................................:starmod:.....................
Here is the suggested THREAD ETIQUETTE. By following this etiquette, all posters, whether new or existing, will feel safe, unpressured and respected..

!!!But first...............please be assured..................................................................******It should be pointed out that if anyone is feeling very distressed or close to a crisis, they do not have to worry about what they are posting, or whether it is a penguin for someone else or not. (See below about penguins). In a crisis situation, just post! We wouldn't want anyone to feel that they couldn't ask for help in case it's a penguin! The penguin thing only applies to a general discussion situation.******

    - This is a thread for support. We have discovered some good friends on here, but we promise always to welcome and include new people, and not to be cliquey.

    - People may make suggestions to help each other, and might even ask if the suggestions were helpful or have been carried out, but we'll really try not to nag each other or put too much pressure on.

    - The normal board rules about sexism, racism, homophobia etc. apply, but if we are careful we should be able to discuss almost anything without breaching board rules - so far we have discussed subjects ranging from child abuse to incontinence!

-If someone thinks that too much pressure is being applied, they can post the trigger word PENGUIN and flag up the fact that they believe there's a potential for someone feeling too nagged to do something. ANYONE could post PENGUIN if they felt there was a danger that suggestions were being enforced too much.

Similarly, if they want to discuss something that might be a trigger for some people, then posting PENGUIN would be a warning that what follows in the whiteout might be a trigger.

    - So, if you think something might be a PENGUIN, please post something like the green bit which follows.

"Possible penguin about.........(type of trigger)" The trigger might be:- child abuse, marital abuse/violence, paranoia, stalkers, death, etc.

Then, when you post, repost the word PENGUIN above the discussion. Then post the penguiny bit in white! And the phrase END OF PENGUIN when you have finished.

It will look like this. You will be able to see the white text if you highlight it or if you quote it, (so please don't 'quote' a post containing a penguin onto the thread!)
    (Harmless example follows here):-
    PENGUIN

This is a penguin. A nasty, crotch biting penguin (CBP).
It isn't really! So you can look
    . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozGTv0hxhpc[/url]

    END OF PENGUIN

(NB on a tenth-page repost of the etiquette, you can see these penguiny words because they are white against the green 'quote' background. On a normal post, they will be white against white, and so won't be seen on the thread.)

IMPORTANT: It has been ascertained that some posters to this thread have found that there are certain subjects which act as triggers, precipitating a worsening of their condition.
To protect these posters, you are respectfully requested NOT to discuss these subjects on this thread:-

Religion. (Please note: it is recognised that everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and we respect those beliefs. It is only because of the fact that religion does act as a trigger for some posters, that we exclude it from discussion.)
N.B. Please don't even mention the name of the religion.

The afterlife. The reason for this is explained in this thread by one poster, and there will be others for whom this is a trigger.

We ask and thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

    .........:starmod:.....................................................................:starmod:................

!!!So, to reiterate..............******It should be pointed out that if anyone is feeling very distressed or close to a crisis, they do not have to worry about what they are posting, or whether it is a penguin for someone else or not. In a crisis situation, just post! We wouldn't want anyone to feel that they couldn't ask for help in case it's a penguin! The penguin thing only applies to a general discussion situation.******

    - More suggestions please.............We stress that we are suggesting that we AGREE some Thread Etiquette to HELP people who might feel anxious about posting, we are not trying to IMPOSE rules, just relating this to facilitating groups, so that people feel safe and able to participate as fully as they can.

:( Had an appalling night, waking every hour or so with streaming nose, sore throat, cough etc.

Don't think I'll be on here much today. :(
