Hello Torry. I suffered with post viral fatigue in my mid teens and remember just how horrible it was. Sorry you are feeling this bad.

Pyxis - Glad you are enjoying Greece and speaking Italian. Only you :rotfl:

Interview today and here's what I'm feeling.

My current place have been very understanding of the TN - they understand that some days I can't come in because of the weather, or the pain and some days I need to go home abruptly and all of my deadlines come with - "as long as your face holds up" and I get to work from home frequently which is good if the weather is bad or I need to wait for a delivery or a tradesman. They've also got used to me making ET noises. I also have ridiculously flexible working time so can miss the rush hour on the train which makes a huge difference, especially as the trains are unreliable and I get time to walk DA dog in the light. I also get lots of holidays but progression isn't great.

The new place is an opportunity to work in a different sector. It pays a little more but I suspect that will be eaten up by increased travel costs if I'm expected to work 8.30-5. It is closer to the station so my commute will be shorter. I think it will be more work and there won't be deadline slippage for me. There will be more stress (a trigger for me) but it is a great opportunity to develop my skills and get some experience if I want to consult later on.

I have a feeling they're going to offer it to me and I just don't know.

(((code))) I don't know what to say but I'm thinking of you x

Is there any scope for progression in your current place at all? Any other departments you could move to or the like?

The new place obviously really like you (who wouldn't?!) so they may well be just as accommodating.

Good luck with the interview, and the decision process x
  • Good luck with interview, code! xxxx

Big hello to Torry, and to Zippy if I haven't said it yet (it would be SOOO nice to have a memory!)

Hmmm... I have root canal surgery planned for today. Actually looking forward to losing the toothache, IYSWIM......
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • Morning all! :)

Welcome Torry  Settle yourself in, join in with the crack and enjoy the crisps, biscuits and jelly babies! Or if you enjoy a somewhat healthier snack, I'm sure we can rustle up some carrot sticks and hummus!

    Welly :)

Good luck today code!! From what you've put, your current place sounds better (to me as an outsider anyhow), and even though you'd get more money in the new job, you say it'd be eaten up by travel costs. But, it isn't me who's in this position, only you know in the long run what's best for you and whether or not you'd use any opportunity to progress through the company or not?

You never know, this new company might be just as accomodating and therefore make it the better option? What does Mr C say?

Good luck with the root canal JM!

What's the temperature over there in Greece Pyxis?

Going to brave the supermarket again today to get a big shop, hope it's not too busy or else there'll be trolley wars!! :p

Eta: yes the panda was stupidly easy to find I can't believe people supposedly found it hard?!
  • Ordered my Mam a Pandora charm for Christmas yesterday. The one I wanted had been out of stock but then appeared in stock on the website (not Pandoras website, a jewellers) so I ordered it straight away, qualified for express delivery and that was that. Checked the website late last night to check it was on it's way as I had had no shipping email off them, and apparently the order is on hold?!

Tried to phone them, got cut off, so have just fired off an angry email to them. I hate bad customer service, proper winds me up!

    I'm back!

WB Studio Tour was absolute perfection. Everything you see is the real thing, from the films, from the tiny things like Madam Pomfrey's bottle of Skele-Gro all the way up to the Knight Bus and Privet Drive.

You go first into a little introduction room, then a cinema, and then the giant doors open into the Great Hall. The Hall is exactly as it was in the films, with examples of all the House uniforms.

Interesting trivia - the Snake door from Chamber of Secrets was not done with CGI - each snake is on a rail to make it move!

I saw the Pensieve, the Goblets of Fire (carved one and working one), the Philosopher's Stone, Dumbledore's office (fun fact - it has a downstairs), the Knight Bus, Privet Drive, the Potters' cottage, Aragog, Buckbeak, the cute baby Thestral, and oh, everything! The chess pieces are so huge it's unreal.

Butterbeer was like an Irn-Bru butterscotch float - quite nice but the ice cream was nicer ha ha!

There were a few tears at the Goblet as that was the last film my Dad watched before we lost him - and the lovely lady let me have one of the slips with Harry's name on it - but the tears really came at the Hogwarts model. The room seemed quiet despite lots of people in it (thinking carpeted walls or a Muffliato spell ;) ) and the music and model together were just quite overwhelming.

It was one of the best things I have ever done and I am so glad I did it.

    HBS x

code, today and tomorrow are not days for making big decisions.

    Hello new posters.

I have a mild headache and yukkiness which I am attempting to cure with sherbert lemons.

Tesco was heaving last night at 7.30, so I doubt today will be any better.

I am at the 'snap at my husband' stage of Crossmas. Mostly not his fault. He is no better.

I told my aunt last night that I would get something on her behalf today if we could but I wasn't going to promise as we had a huge amount of work before we break up for Xmas tonight. And she snapped at me! It was to replace something that my brother broke. I resisted snapping back and pointing out that he should deal with it. My family still has this belief that men need to have their life's path smoothed as they bring in the money. My job is not a job in their eyes as I am female.

HBS, I am so glad you gave yourself a lovely Christmas treat. I feel better now from reading your post which has helped me get that glimmer of excitement back.

Glad you had a great time HBS! Was it decorated nicely for Christmas? When we went in May I put my hand up when they asked if anyone was celebrating a birthday so I got to push the doors to the hall open! :D

So annoying about the charm Georgie!

Oooh WW I hate that archaic attitude towards men and women! I earn more than my DH, but because I'm a woman does it even mean anything?! Something went wrong with 'equal rights', for a lot of women it just means that they get to go to work *and* get lumbered with the traditional 'female role' at home whilst nothing really changed for men! I'm lucky that my DH does more than 50% of the chores (he's a neat freak whereas I'm more relaxed about tidying :o) and an awful lot of childcare due to his working hours but I get annoyed when people say 'Oh, isn't he good for helping', no, he's just pulling his equal weight in a relationship where both parents work full time! If I go out on a weekend I'm asked if DH is babysitting... you don't babysit your own child FGS! :p*ranty rant rant*

Any more contact from FOH, Tea?

Sounds like you've got a tough decision to make, Code. Can you speak to your current work and tell them you've had an offer (if you get one of course!) and you're considering it... they might offer more money/promotion etc to keep you on?

It's my last day in work today then I have 5 days off, bliss! Feeling slightly less stressed about Christmas now as everyone has *something*, I can just get a couple of extras tonight/tomorrow but I won't feel terrible if I don't manage it IYKWIM! :)

  • Aww WW I am glad my post cheered you up a bit. I hate it when Christmas becomes Crossmas so hope you continue to feel better.

Birdie - the Great Hall had lots of Christmas trees, and flaming puddings :) also the big model was covered in snow, and it was snowing in the Backlot, which was amazing. There was a display where they showed you how all the different snows and fires were made too :)

  • It sounds magical HBS! Like I've said previously, I've never watched any HP, but it sounds like a place even a non fan would enjoy. I'm so glad you had a fantastic time! :)

I hate that outdated belief WW where the "little female" should do all the work

Right, I'm armed with my list, shopping bags at the ready, battle armour on! If I'm not back by tea time, send out the search parties! :D
