I have just been attempting to finish my Christmas shopping. You know desperation is setting in when you find yourself contemplating pairs of socks. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I love socks, elsien! I gave WaSp a Christmas List with only socks written on it about 50 times in rainbow colours hoping he would get the hint. His response was "Oh, you want chocolate then." See what I put up with?
The shopping is here and it is ALL here so WaSp is saved from leaving the flat again until next week. I did get some substitutions but because we buy a lot of value stuff it tends to work in our favour. A cheap £1 Yule Log was replaced with a fresh cream Extra Special range one and somehow 6 plums turned into a huge container of 15. We are rather happy with that!
We are officially prepared! Well I am, WaSp still has presents to wrap...Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Tea, it sounds to me like she'll be delivering his presents and maybe delivering his messages to you as well.
I may be wrong, of course.
However, I think at this point it would put you on the spot when you really need some space and some rest from all this, and you definitely do not want to risk being made to feel guilty again.
You could just text her and say that though you appreciate the thought, you really do need a rest after recent events, and with Christmas now being so close, you would really like to put it behind you. That you wish her well and hope he feels better soon, but you just need space and you can't do any more for him. Or words to that effect.(I just lurve spiders!)

What's the temperature over there in Greece Pyxis?
In the sun it's been very warm, high 60s (F), cooler but pleasant in the shade. Had to take my jacket off. Wished I'd brought my sunhat!
We spent the morning on the Acropolis and in the Acropolis museum. I'm now a convert to the view that we should return the Elgin marbles. (Won't go into it here, but it would be a bit like someone else having part of Stonehenge).
Had an excellent guide who made everything very interesting indeed.
Then we travelled right down to the tip of Attica to Cape Sounion to see the Temple of Poseidon, which was lovely. The sun was low in the sky, and the almost full moon was out too, in a blue sky. The columns of the temple glowed orange to start with, reflecting the terracotta of the surrounding soil; then, as the sun was setting, they took on a rosy glow. We watched the sun set across the Adriatic Sea behind the mountains on the distant horizon, and as the sun finally disappeared, the columns turned silvery white.
There were three tame partridges pecking about, (no pear tree, though), and I dubbed them Poseidon's Partridges! They were so sweet! Twirbling away as they pecked!
As we drove back along the coast, the whole horizon glowed rosy-red for miles and miles, and on the other side of the sky, the moon rose, brightening by the second.
Beautiful.
Tomorrow we go to Delphi. I hope that will be magical too.
The joy of coming at this time of year is that you aren't fighting the hordes to see things. There were people there, obviously, but it must be ghastly with ten times that number, and even hotter!
Delphi shouldn't be seen with jostling crowds, it's too magical a place! I wonder if I'll get a whiff of that hallucinogenic rock-gas and start prophesying?:rotfl:(I just lurve spiders!)

I am loving your descriptions, Pyxis. I feel like I am there! Please tell us more about what you see, I like cold weather but I am rather jealous!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

I agree about the Elgin Marbles Pyxis. George Clooneys wife is working on a case to get them returned I think?
Love your descriptions, so detailed! It sounds beautiful!0 -
Tea, I would go with what Elsien said in reply. I'd also be wary of telling her too much about what you are up to as my 'weirdo radar' is going off and I do wonder if he may be using his mums phone? Not wanting to worry you, just don't want you to give too much away.
HBS it sounds like you had a lovely time!
Hi Flybaby, how is uni going? In all honesty I'm dreading this Christmas with Escapette, in a way anyway. We have an awful lot of people to visit, mainly bearded ones family, and she gets very kranky when she is tired, but won't sleep when out. Been so busy recently I'd like some time to just cuddle up at home, but that won't happen now until new year. Good luck negotiating the job.
Code how did the interview go? I must admit your current job sounds better for your personal circumstance, but only you will know what is best.
Hello Birdie!
Calley, you doing OK?
Melly, judging by the amount of job offers happening on this thread at the moment, you won't be looking for work long at all!
Little Sod survived the kennels at the weekend. Or the kennels survived Little Sod. They groomed him and he came back smelling lovely. Charged a fortune for it, but saved me from having to wrestle the furry alligator myself. Id be less anxious leaving him there again.
Forgot to mention (I think I forgot!) , at my chiseling session last week she used some EFT with me. I keep trying it now but not sure how well it works. We also discovered that a lot of my issues are due to a fear of being replaced! Not due to low self esteem, but because I feel people don't recognise my abilities. Bit odd!0 -
WaS - yea! Another sock lover! I ask for knee high socks every year for Christmas as I tend to wear three pairs of socks during the winter when I am out and about on construction sites (all very logical to do with changing outer layer if they get wet, middle layer for thick warm socks and the long cotton socks to keep legs warm) Family think I have a sock fetish, but I wear through around 20 pairs of socks every winter and so I need replacements!
Welly - ah...........understand completely.....here's to a lovely quiet new year for you! Uni.......big mistake I think............ more than I can handle unfortunately and the prospect of taking on a job as well is pretty much tipping me over the edge at the moment..........am trying to tell myself it is all in my head and I need to just get on with it all but I have very black and white thinking and I strongly suspect the worst will always happen, which it very often does, which makes it so hard to tell myself I am being unreasonably negative. Hey ho.........What is the EFT? Sounds interesting.
Hi Melly and Calley - hope you are both ok.
Tea - you ok? {squishes} Thinking of you.
Pyx - jealous of your sunshine!!! {squish}0 -
The interview went ok I think, but I do interview badly so who knows. I spent the time on the way talking myself into wanting it then spent the part where he explaining what the job was about trying not to fall asleep. I think my issue is that I've felt pushed into it. I didn't even really want to apply and at first I thought I was just afraid of the change, now I think if it was the right job, surely I'd feel excited instead of hoping they say no at every stage? Surely some part of me should want it? I told the guy from the agency that I wasn't sure that it was a good fit for me.
Flybaby - I like socks too. Mine fall victim to lost sock land at the back of the washing machine or something as I can never find a pair.
Tea - hugs. I think the advice so far has been sound.
Pyxis - very jealous of your Athens adventures.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
I've finished work for christmas!! :j (well until boxing day but shusshhh)
Tomorrow is likely to be a mad dash to get to Swain's but its all starting to feel real and festive now. I even had lunch on my manager as i sold the most loaves of bread (do not ask me why but this week shes been obsessed with putting bread on offer :rotfl: )
