Thank you so much all, the support is much appreciated.
Part of me is thinking !!!!!! am I doing? Am I really going to go back to the police station tomorrow and have a domestic abuse interview?? How the heck has it come to this?
But part of me is genuinely scaredHad to sit in my house with the curtains drawn this afternoon, and I'm jumping every time someone walks past outside.
I really don't want to get him into trouble. I just want him to leave me alone.
Am also a bit worried that i might get in trouble - I reckon the police will say just to hear him out and that I'm over reacting.0 -
You're not overreacting. The police are not always the most sensitive organisation, but if you're scared it's down to him not to you.
According to the CAB page,
Harassment is when someone behaves in a way which makes you feel distressed, humiliated or threatened. It could be someone you know, like a neighbour or people from you local area or it could be a stranger - for example, someone on the bus.
Examples of harassment include:
unwanted phone calls, letters, emails or visits
stalking
verbal abuse and threats
smashing windows or using dogs to frighten you.
Stalking - Often incidents can be regarded as 'unremarkable' if seen as a one off. It is important recognise any patterns of behaviour. What might be perceived as in isolation behaviours might seem unremarkable but in the particular circumstance and with repetition, they take on a more sinister meaning.
Unwanted communications may include:
telephone calls, letters, emails, SMS text messages, sending or leaving unsolicited materials/gifts, messages on social networking sites.
Unwanted intrusions include:
following, waiting for, spying on, approaching, accosting, going to a person's home.
He's doing a fair few on the list - if his intentions are harmless then he needs to be told by someone he'll take notice of that it's not ok.
If his intentions are not harmless then he needs stopping.
Either way it's not your fault. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
tea - you broke up with him and he moved out (how long ago was that?) and then all of a sudden he is stalking you?
You DO NOT have to talk to him. If you breaking up with him and asking him to leave your house wasn;t clear enough - then he is not stable. Did it sound as if he was trying to get a key in the lock today?
Go to the police station and have the conversation with them and ask them to please tell him to leave you alone.0 -

Tea, I had logged out as I'm feeling sleepy, but then I read your post and I had to reply.
"But part of me is genuinely scaredHad to sit in my house with the curtains drawn this afternoon, and I'm jumping every time someone walks past outside."
You wrote that just now. Earlier you gave an account of how he had been following you in your car....wherever you turned off, there he was.
His texts and calls have become so numerous that they're upsetting you.
You've had to change your locks, because he might have been letting himself in, and you're scared he might.
You've been considering changing your plans so as to avoid him.
You're worrying about what you say on here or on .facebook in case he uses that info to stalk you.
Earlier he was banging on the door and shouting through the letterbox, more than once.
Big hugs, Tea, 'cos he's scaring you. When someone scares you, you have every right to go to the police. His actions are not those of a friend or a reasonable ex. and you are scared by them. That's enough grounds to ask advice of the police. You won't get into trouble.
If you do agree to talk to him, make sure someone else is present.
And please don't worry about asking the police for help....that's what they're there for. If he carries on, he will be committing an offence. This way, they may be able to nip it in the bud so that he doesn't commit an offence.m(I just lurve spiders!)

Need a thread catchup...which i shall do asap
In the meantime i'm spending the weekend being social, Swain insisted that as i havent seen my best friends for a few months and as he's just had me for 3 days i need to go outt and see people. So seeing one group of friends tonight and more tomorrow for a Christmas dinner.
This is alien to me as several of my exes have in the past had issue with me going out and seeing friends and not spending every available minute with them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
