Sorry, Georgie, don't think I agree with you about insurance company thing, as technically that's fraud.
However, it might be worth having a word with them to explain the circumstances, as they may have a system for replacing locks where a former inhabitant has gone without relinquishing the keys. Especially where there might be a malicious intent in the offing. You can only ask!
Yeah I know, I thought that when I wrote it. However, if quite abit of work needed doing (front door, back door, garage etc) and it worked out to be quite pricey and it needed it doing ASAP because of circumstances such as teas, and there was no waiting whilst the money was found, then personally I'd go ahead with the lie for my own piece of mind. But yeah Pyxis advice is the most sensible so perhaps follow that instead!Hopefully it's a simple job that can be done without having to get any professionals in.
Just to add, I am really am a trustworthy person even though I suggested the above:rotfl:

Good idea Welly, he could quite easily have done so. Another thing to watch out for tea.
Hope last night was a one off and he doesn't do anything or contact you again....although I won't hold my breath
Hugs (((SDW))). Your worries are just as valid as anyone else's. Sorry to hear you're feeling stressed atm

Tea, some really good suggestions above. Hope you are getting the barrels sorted as I write!
7DW - probably not much help unless you want to spend bigger money, but I would demand that your neighbours get some of these if they ever want you to dogsit again. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Safety-Flashing-Luminous-Visible-Collars/dp/B00BVWX9HW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1450520115&sr=8-2&keywords=glow+dog+collar
In the mean time I don't suppose you have a flashing cycle light or similar that you could clip securely on to the collar???Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Oh Tea. I was so sad to read this today, I don't know what to say
get those locks sorted!
And lots of love.

Tea, that's really scary.
I can't add much to the advice already given. Conventional locks ("yale" latch type and mortice type are not difficult to change, although the latter you have to be sure the dimensions are the same or they won't fit). The locks fitted to GRP and composite type doors are usually "Euro cylinder" barrels which can be changed, though I've never done it. I was looking at my doors and couldn't figure out how to dismantle them to get the barrel out - I'm sure the Internet will have the answer though, but it is something I would consider paying a locksmith to do, for one thing to be sure of getting a good quality lock.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
