Is everyone ok with me posting the Advent Countdown Calendar? I can always stop if it's annoying or not to your taste.

    A lop eared rabbit.

I always wanted one of those because one of my favourite books as a kid was Leo the Lop. He's upset because his ears don't point up like all of the other rabbits' do but learns that it's okay to be different and 'normal is whatever you are' :D

Seems like a choice between be happy with myself and my weird interests and outlook on life, or have a relationship but compromise on who I am.
You definitely shouldn't have to compromise who you are for someone else, and I think the older we get the more resistant to it we become (or maybe I've just been on my own too long and am used to the independence).

Your hobbies don't seem weird to me, but then I've got hundreds of scifi books and comics, and will happily sit at home and read, which seems weird to many. I always knew that right from when I was very young I was always the nerdy odd one out that's happier at home with my books, not a bloke-ish bloke that likes to chase a football around a muddy field.

It wasn't until I was in my 30s that I really accepted that about myself though and stopped trying to hide my general nerdiness / geekiness and decided that people would have to accept me as I am. It's worked out with friendships, I have a small number (fingers of one hand number, not 50  ) of really good friends, but not with romantic relationships.

Despite my own single status suggesting it hasn't worked out for me, I still think being true to oneself is the right approach.

    I like it :)

Thanks everyone, I felt like a duck amongst swans, I really did. Being old and plump didn't help.

People who poke fun at nerds are usually jealous of the fact that there are people who know an awful lot more about a subject than they do!

    Nerds of the world unite!

Come out of the nerdy closet and be proud of your nerdiness!

Perhaps we need a Nerd Pride campaign?

I don't think they're your only choices, or that your interests are weird, but I'd definitely take the first option.
Someone doesn't have to share your interests, all they have to do is respect them and if they can't manage to do that then they're not worth your time and effort.

HBS - am really regretting that I said I'd go to the evening Christmas thing on Friday. Will be very glad when it's out of the way!

Thank you for all the lovely comments about a) not having weird interests and b) not caring even if they are weird :D

You and me both tea! I shall pop on and send you a hug before I venture out!

(And weird interests? I spend some of my weekends chucking people around while wearing enough glitter to decorate a Christmas tree, and some of them drunk and dressed as a Celt, whacking people with foam swords....and I found Mr Right. He's out there for you!)

Do you know, roll on weird interests!

It's very interesting to meet people who do things out of the ordinary, or things I'd never heard of, (like the Larping). It's the way you can find new things to do, perhaps, and at the very least just adds to life's rich tapestry!

I'm always looking for different experiences to have! Sometimes they lead to hobbies, sometimes not, but it's still good to have had a go!

I think everyone has a weird interest if you probe enough :) Despite being a rugby boy, my DH is massive nerd and has read nearly 100 Star Wars books and has seen every episode of Star Trek, at least 3 times! I never felt comfortable at school because I wasn't 'cool', it took me to my 20s to accept that I'm actually a bit of a geek and very happy with myself! :D

ETA: Pyxis, I don't comment on your advent posts as I can't see them at work (blocked) and my laptop at home is odd and doesn't show them (it's odd and fussy and missing Flash Player/will only run Firefox which is a bit awkward I think) but if I could see them, I'm sure I'd love them!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!
