today is St Andrews Day. St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland,

Yes indeed. Otherwise known as "haggis neeps and tatties day" :rotfl:

I have to walk 6.5 miles to collect something from the PO sorting office today. Customs charge on an xmas pressie from US for £13.43 arrived on the 9th but couldn't pay until Friday but cos they only keep it until today (21 days) they wouldn't redeliver it because they "need 2 working days from payment, within 21 day limit"

The area sorting office is 3.2 miles away...

Also £13.43 charge on a £20 item is taking the p***

They can't even confirm if the package is still THERE because sorting offices don't have their own phone numbers anymore (?!) and there's no tracking number. Just that it "should be" there until the end of the day.

Happy St Andrews Day code :) I had to google what stovies were, and then I was like "ah! Corn beef hash!" Well, that's what we call it, and now you know what? I really could eat some of that for tea tonight. Got some tatties, onions, stock, carrots, just no corn beef....might have to pop out for some! :D

Hope the doctors goes ok Ono :) It's horrendous when night after night you just can't sleep. Sorry to hear you're feeling stressed right now :(

Sorry to hear you are too fly baby :(

Lex, I haven't said hello yet....so hello, and welcome! Hope your parcel is still there once you've walked all that way, and no the weather is better than it is up here! I've ordered something from America for D, fingers crossed I don't hit by customs charges too  Sometimes you do but sometimes you don't, I guess it's pot luck?

Lots of lovely squishes to you flybaby.

To any bah humbugs! - I have started writing my Christmas cards today (so there!) I see DH has put Top Gear repeats on in retaliation. I can't stand the repeats - mainly as he's already watched them six million times. Oh, he has just turned it up. This is war!!

    Hi!

I think it depends whether it's marked as a 'gift' or not? Things marked as gifts don't get hit with customs, but things that come from businesses do. I got it from etsy, so yeah it was gonna be pot luck whether the seller marked it as a gift or declared it as a business thing.

At least it's not raining today, although it looks pretty windy out. I regularly walk 2.5 miles each way to get to uni, but I resent 3.2 miles just to pick up a bloody parcel :rotfl:

ps stovies is 10000% better with minced beef instead of corned beef.

I may make a cheese and potato pie and pretend that is stovies. It may be my southern tastebuds but stovies looks vile.

I am seeing a Scottish person later. Is there a traditional St Andrews Day greeting? (He thinks I am weird anyway so don't tell me rubbish that I will then say to him, lol).

Hello Team WaS! I have been hidden in a little corner of the fort as I have been poorly and but I'm back to normal now so can poke my head out of my slanket! :o

Sorry I missed your birthday WaS! So glad you had a good day and got the pressies you wanted!

I'm struggling to get some enthusiasm for Christmas for some reason. :o I bought 'stuff' to make Christmas cards but I just CBA. Must make an effort this week! I really ought to get some presents sorted too, I haven't even thought about what to even buy DS, poor thing! Luckily he's still too young to expect mounds of presents! :p

Stovies looks a bit yuck but tastes great.

No greeting that I'm aware of. Most people don't really bother.

I can't stand mince! Never have really been keen on it. I'm not vegetarian, but when I make spag Bol, I always use Quorn mince.

My item is from etsy too, so we'll see what happens!

Funnily enough, that is exactly what I am having for tea now! There's some vegs left, so D said he fancied a mince and onion pie, but as I can't stand mince, I always go for the cheese and potato one!
