Pyxis the box, Pyxis the constellation and Pyxis the expensive pill dispenser which was the option thrown out in favour of the Pill-O-Matix in the TV series Nurse Jackie. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0

This is an example!
It's an Ancient Greek word meaning a small wooden box used to keep medicines, unctions or small trinkets/jewellery in.
From the Greek puksos, meaning boxwood, which is what they were originally made of. The plural is pyxides.
From that comes the modern word for a pill-dispensing cabinet! Not quite as nice!
I thought it was apt, as I like treen, and have a small collection of little wooden boxes. Only one is actual a pyxis, though, and it's Victorian, not Ancient Greek!(I just lurve spiders!)

Hey guys, how are we all doing in the blanket fort?
I went to a doctor's appointment yesterday, at the same time had my 'flu jab instead of popping into the jab clinic today and sorted out what's gone wrong with the automatic, electronic prescription ordering.
There was a little box on my electronic record which was red instead of blue. Now it's blue and, I'm assured, there won't be a problem in the future.
I also had a blood test done at a separate medical centre and pharmacy. I left it for so long after I was given the form that the form has since become obsolete!!
I've got to go back as they didn't have all of my prescription yesterday.
Back story: No one ever does have all of my AD. It's so rarely prescribed these days that no pharmacy keeps a big stock of them, hence the return journeys to the pharmacies.
Late yesterday evening, I put everything out on the pavement for the bulky waste collection. I ended up dropping the zed bed out the front door and waited until it finished up on one side before picking it up and leaving it a bit more tidily and then I went to bed as I felt rough after the 'flu jab.
Today I feel rougher.
I've done next to nothing. My arms hurt after the exertion with the furniture, there's a bruised feeling to the injection arm and I'm alternating between feeling too warm and too cold.
I'm sweating.
I've got a dental hygienist's visit and a smear tomorrow, a mental health triage session by 'phone on Thursday and a chiropody appointment on Friday.
I think that's everything covered. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -

Even the constellation name Pyxis is linked to the box. It was originally called Pyxis Nautica which meant a mariner's compass box, and then came to mean the compass itself!(I just lurve spiders!)

Im enjoying the history lesson
I've forgotten so much of the ancient Greek stuff I did at uni (never studied the language, just couldn't face learning an obsolete language). I love the elegance of some of the pottery forms too.
Ginger, its such a shame that the flu jab its wonderfully helpful, but makes you feel like c*ap just after you get it. I hope it settles quicker than the full blown flu would!
I had a friend come over earlier to help me with a deep clean of the flat. After reacting badly to the cleaning chemicals and air fresheners at my aunts, then the dust and sawdust at my ex's place, a good deep clean was needed to see if it helps. I gently dusted yesterday and then my friend hoovered throughout, and cleaned the kitchen thoroughly. I did a decent clean of the bathroom, but will need to leave the floor till tomoz. It sounds mad, but the air feels less textured. I'm guessing its just because I know its cleaner, but its lovely!
Ive made an optician's and Dr's appt for the end of the week, visiting a friend for their bday tomoz. Might need to rest up tonight and most of tomorrow to manage that. I feel fairly drained:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Good evening all! I am going to get my allergy tests on Thursday, eek! This apparently involves pin pricking a tiny amount of the substances into the skin of my inner arm and seeing what happens for the next 30 minutes. My doctor has recommended all common allergies and the food group associated with avocados. It shouldn't make me unwell at all but might be itchy! Fortunately the nurse can do it, this usually means they allow me to wait in an empty nurses office for my appointment so that I can avoid the waiting room whilst sitting around waiting to be allergic to something!
Whitewing, yes. Some of my others have depression and anxiety, the youngest has PTSD (about situations where I don't) and one has OCD.
I echo what JM says. I am here a lot more than I post, I probably check the thread every 20 minutes while I am awake but am not always up to replying. But it warms my heart so much to see everyone supporting each other and that alone makes me feel better. I know a lot of people do say they have issues afterwards a flu jab. No idea why. As the flu jab is not a live vaccine so it can't give you flu
My husband is immune suppressed and is not allowed to have any live vaccines. Add to that and having a stroke its in his best interests to have a flu jab.
Even being my husbands carer was told that I could not have a free one as I did not claim carers allowance
That made no sense to me as I worked full time and I came in to contact with delivery drivers all day long as well as working with people who had kids!!!
