    The regular etiquette repost....
    Pyxis wrote: »
(The thread etiquette will be reposted every ten or so pages.)
    ........:starmod:......................................................................:starmod:.....................
Here is the suggested THREAD ETIQUETTE. By following this etiquette, all posters, whether new or existing, will feel safe, unpressured and respected..

!!!But first...............please be assured..................................................................******It should be pointed out that if anyone is feeling very distressed or close to a crisis, they do not have to worry about what they are posting, or whether it is a penguin for someone else or not. (See below about penguins). In a crisis situation, just post! We wouldn't want anyone to feel that they couldn't ask for help in case it's a penguin! The penguin thing only applies to a general discussion situation.******

    - This is a thread for support. We have discovered some good friends on here, but we promise always to welcome and include new people, and not to be cliquey.

    - People may make suggestions to help each other, and might even ask if the suggestions were helpful or have been carried out, but we'll really try not to nag each other or put too much pressure on.

    - The normal board rules about sexism, racism, homophobia etc. apply, but if we are careful we should be able to discuss almost anything without breaching board rules - so far we have discussed subjects ranging from child abuse to incontinence!

-If someone thinks that too much pressure is being applied, they can post the trigger word PENGUIN and flag up the fact that they believe there's a potential for someone feeling too nagged to do something. ANYONE could post PENGUIN if they felt there was a danger that suggestions were being enforced too much.

Similarly, if they want to discuss something that might be a trigger for some people, then posting PENGUIN would be a warning that what follows in the whiteout might be a trigger.

    - So, if you think something might be a PENGUIN, please post something like the green bit which follows.

"Possible penguin about.........(type of trigger)" The trigger might be:- child abuse, marital abuse/violence, paranoia, stalkers, death, etc.

Then, when you post, repost the word PENGUIN above the discussion. Then post the penguiny bit in white! And the phrase END OF PENGUIN when you have finished.

It will look like this. You will be able to see the white text if you highlight it or if you quote it, (so please don't 'quote' a post containing a penguin onto the thread!)
    (Harmless example follows here):-
    PENGUIN

This is a penguin. A nasty, crotch biting penguin (CBP).
It isn't really! So you can look
    . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozGTv0hxhpc[/url]

    END OF PENGUIN

(NB on a tenth-page repost of the etiquette, you can see these penguiny words because they are white against the green 'quote' background. On a normal post, they will be white against white, and so won't be seen on the thread.)

IMPORTANT: It has been ascertained that some posters to this thread have found that there are certain subjects which act as triggers, precipitating a worsening of their condition.
To protect these posters, you are respectfully requested NOT to discuss these subjects on this thread:-

Religion. (Please note: it is recognised that everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and we respect those beliefs. It is only because of the fact that religion does act as a trigger for some posters, that we exclude it from discussion.)
N.B. Please don't even mention the name of the religion.

The afterlife. The reason for this is explained in this thread by one poster, and there will be others for whom this is a trigger.

We ask and thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

    .........:starmod:.....................................................................:starmod:................

!!!So, to reiterate..............******It should be pointed out that if anyone is feeling very distressed or close to a crisis, they do not have to worry about what they are posting, or whether it is a penguin for someone else or not. In a crisis situation, just post! We wouldn't want anyone to feel that they couldn't ask for help in case it's a penguin! The penguin thing only applies to a general discussion situation.******

    - More suggestions please.............We stress that we are suggesting that we AGREE some Thread Etiquette to HELP people who might feel anxious about posting, we are not trying to IMPOSE rules, just relating this to facilitating groups, so that people feel safe and able to participate as fully as they can.

Just popping in. Feel a bit better today, but still,in bed. The cough's loosening up and I don't feel as dire as I did.

Thanks for the lovely flowers Code! :D

Sorry you're feeling so bad. Just remember, it's flu of the brain.......it hits no matter how good your circumstances are.

WaS, I'm seriously worried about you being left for a few days.
    Seriously worried.
Does SIL live in Yorkshire? Could you squirrel yourself with her, by any chance? I can't remember.
Or another relative who knows your situation and would let you hide there?

Failing that, could you arrange for the two carer days to be over that period, and then pay for another two consecutively? It would be cheaper than a hotel.

It seems a shame you can't be there for the party, though. :(

Flybaby, I'm with you on the environmental effects of plastic bags. Long overdue. Although some shops have been charging a few pence per bag for a while.

I think the media have just caused a lot of fuss. Obviously not much else going on in the world. :(
When I was a teenager and young adult, it was normal to have to take your own bag to shops. I really can't see what the fuss is all about. To take it a step further, I'd like to see plastic bags phased out altogether. While they're still being made in their thousands, they'll still be an environmental threat.

    Back to my pit now.

I appear to have a nocturnal baby.

Hope everyone is OK. I am too much of a zombie to reply individually at the moment!

    Hi Wellyboots6!

Yup. My oh so scientific and extensive scientific research (a quick Googling :o) shows that yes, newborns have an unhappy habit of being nocturnal.

I am ever so slightly unwell in a self inflicted sort of a way.
Very impressive setting for the do - Liverpool Anglican cathedral with full on candles, thundering organ and a spot of dry ice as we traipsed through to dine. Although a bit surprising churches are now renting themselves out for functions to raise cash. Canap!s in the lady chapel felt a bit odd.

Hahahaha! That sounds like a good evening, elsien! Drink water!

Grab sleep when you can, Welly. My dad would sympathise with you, I was a nocturnal baby too. Fortunately I was also a very quiet and unfussy baby who happily laid awake gurgling to herself but I spent a while refusing to sleep at night. Funnily enough, even as a child growing up I was a night owl and I am still am. In my case it was thought to be because I was in a baby unit for 6 weeks and would wake when the other babies did throughout the night, during the day my dad would take me out and sit and cuddle me and then I would sleep.

I have some lovely flu symptoms. It isn't flu, it is one of my physical illnesses flaring but it feels just the same so boo.

Hope you are feeling a bit better today, Pyxis!

I now have no idea if WaSp is going to Milliefleur's party or not. He doesn't have the address and is refusing to speak to BIL after the incident of making us panic two nights ago and is being stubborn about it. It's a surprise party so Milliefleur doesn't know when it is and he doesn't have other relatives phone numbers. He is also fearing that he will be put in charge of looking after BIL if he does go and making sure he doesn't hit anyone, fall on anyone, generally ruin everything. This has happened before, BIL's usual party piece is to turn up drunk, get even more drunk, get irrationally angry and fight with people and then sit in a corner crying about how everyone hates him before passing out. This is usually followed by him not remembering a thing the next day and telling everyone what a great party it was. We did have a slight disagreement because WaSp really wanted me to go, to help with BIL! Err, no that would never happen, if I went I would be as far away from him as possible so I am definitely not going now even if we could afford it. I haven't avoided all contact with the man for 8 years for no reason! I am mostly just sitting back peacefully smiling in my laid-back, drugged way and letting them get on with it.

  • Eeeeeee a wonderful parcel of crafting things is arriving for me today! I am learning to die-stamp metal and leather bracelets! I am determined to be good at something :/

On a sad side, I got a bad review on my Etsy shop because the item I made broke. The buyer didn't even try to get in touch with me to rectify the situation. So now I only have 3 stars average down from 5 :(

Aww that's a shame about the bad review HBS. :( Have fun with the new crafty stuff though!

Glad you had a good night Elsien, I'd find it a bit odd to be eating and drinking in a church too. I guess it makes sense to rent it out to earn some money but... it would feel a little strange!

Welly, is Escapee getting a lot of sleep during the day? We tried to make daytime very bright and stimulating and didn't let him sleep too much and made nighttime really boring and dark and quiet to get DS into sleeping more at night because there was nothing better to do. Even on night feeds we'd look at him very little so he knew he was just up for milk and a quick cuddle rather than up for fun IYKWIM. She'll get there, she's still new, it's just awful when you're so tired.

With the bag charge, the oddest thing is shopping for clothes etc. I'm kind of used to taking bags with me to the supermarket, been doing it for years (or at least leaving them at home/in the car then getting annoyed because I forgot them!), but going into a shop to buy a dress and just being handed the item with nowhere to put it is a little odd! I like to keep new clothes in separate bags from other things to avoid any damage so don't like the idea of just shoving everything in one bag so if/when I do a big clothes shop I'll have to remember to take a lot of bags with me! :o

I am hoping to make matching silver (hers) and leather (his) cuff bracelets for my friend's wedding present with their names and date of wedding stamped on :)
