  • Ooooh,Code do go to a Christmas market! I have always wanted to go to one of those so go for me!

I shall have to check out the baby kittens thread!

I am still trying to console my american friend about her horrid essay that she needs to write. The more I think about it the more I think it was badly handled. It is a very emotive subject and the students were offered no support to discuss it at all, it was just dropped onto them and they were left to get on with it by a psychological researcher, not even a therapist who may at least have some idea that students could be badly affected by it. I am going to help her write a complaint letter to the college because I think at least being able to voice how much this triggered her may help feel she has gained some control back. In the meantime she is a complete mess and still has the essay to write.

Gitdog is attending the puppy class tonight as we can't go to our normal class tomorrow. I can't help but feel that this could turn out to be a very bad idea. Either way it'll be "interesting."
Black tie do tomorrow. Any rules I need to be aware of? Generally speaking to (unless it's basic courtesy ) rules tend to rub me up the wrong way, and make me want to do the opposite.
I went to the ballet once, premiere opened by a royal. Who was very very late. So when the national anthem played I just thought, sod em, I'm not standing up for them if they can't show some courtesy to the audience who've been hanging around for hours.
However on the grounds of not wanting to embarrass my relative, any stupidnesses such as women not pouring their own drinks I need to grit my teeth for?

Edit - WaS, if it's a potentially distressing subject, the college must have some duty of care for students well being. But they won't know if she's not able to say something. I'd still suggest she approach someone else about the essay. She doesn't need to go into details, just let them know that she can't do it without making herself unwell. There has to be some sort of compromise or alternative available.

  • I have no idea, elsien. I am the person who dated a stage manager at the London Coliseum and went to my first opera in evening dress, full make up and with my hair up to find everyone else in jeans and t-shirts. I am not good at judging this stuff.

Gitdog and puppies, now that has to be a fun night!

Pass the port to the left. :rotfl:

Pretty sure you're not the type to get rowdy and kick off fights while slugging Buckfast so just have fun. Black tie is essentially just a party where everyone looks nice.

That sounds like a lot more fun.
I can do polite small talk for a bit, then I generally decide I'm boring everyone and go into mute wallflower mode. Still it's only one night, and I'll never see any of them again. Hip flask, anyone?

Not a bad idea in case alcohol is expensive. I'm classy like that!

I told the contractor that I wouldn't be using him for the next stage of work and he was actually relieved and said they had too much work anyway. That explains his lack of enthusiasm. I feel better about it now. Work is concluded so workman free zone now. It's sooo much better now.

Also damn you Lindy Bop with your new range of lovely tops and dresses, teasing me when I have no money.

Argh, why did I feel compelled to check the Lindy Bop website?! I want it all! Especially the epic hat, scarf and mitten sets! I'm looking forward to next year when I should have a little more flash cash so I can buy pretty things!

Glad phase one of work is done Chez Code! :)

Elsien, I don't think there's any etiquette to worry about, just enjoy yourself! And I doubt you'd bore anyone, all you have to do is talk about Gitdog and people will be howling! (Ooh, pun not intended!)

    Arrrrgghhhhhhhhh

Can people please stop giving me abuse of this damn 5p bag charge??

I've had several people today make snotty comments about it, and two people who went off one one about it being illegal (something i debunked in a mere 5 mins on my break). I DO NOT MAKE THE RULES. I just have to follow them. Personally the charge doesn't bother me, it was well publicized and i simply stocked up on bags and if i know im going shopping take them with me. If i need to nip into the shop and have to buy a bag, i buy a bag, it's 5p. 5p that's going towards charity. Christ why has nobody kicked off at Aldi/Lidl who have always charged for bags. I'm so bloody sick of people moaning about it and taking it out on me!!!!

**hugs and squishes for anyone who'd like/need them* sorry for going off on a rant :o
