Ah you have all made me giggle no end this morning.....
Welly - of course murder is completely acceptable in your current situation
Code - take no prisoners girl
poorlie peoples - feel better soon
workmen peoples - no murdering of workmen until they have finished the job!
and everyone else - rock on!
I have a poster with lara croft from tombraider and underneath it says "I'm out of Oestrogen and I have a gun.........."" I think that says it all

MU - so sorry to hear that people are taking out the 5p bag charge on you and on behalf of the public who do care can I whole heartedly apologise for the A**holes. And a big thank you to people like you who are having to deal with the backlash of this at the coal face - because it was a much needed change. The british are terrible with change in general but this one is for the environment and is actually very important and other European countries got rid of plastic bags 20/30 years ago so we are very far behind. SO a personal thank you from me - evey time some git gives you sh*t about the bag charge - remember that you putting up with their ignorance and selfishness is actually you standing up for the environment and I am very proud of you!
    If you like I can send you an absolute essay on why they plastic bags are bad for the environment................that would befuddle your customers no end!! {planetsavingsquish}

Oh dear MU, hopefully it'll die down soon! It is silly how crazy people get... at the end of the day, if you've forgotten a bag and need one, it's only 5p! Hardly going to break the bank! If they were walking down the street and dropped 5p they'd probably think it wasn't worth bending down to pick up! :p

DH was in a shop yesterday buying me some boots (he's such a sniffer dog for bargains; he found the exact boots I was coveting earlier this year for half price so grabbed them! :)) he had his bag for life ready and the shop assistants didn't believe that he'd be able to fit the big boot box into that bag so were smirking at him for being a 5p-dodger... he got the box in the bag (just!) and felt very pleased with himself! :p I thought I'd struggle to convert him to a bag-for-lifer but he's settled into it very easily! :)

Hope Escapette let you sleep last night Welly!

I'm in favour of the charge, but I've been caught out already by either a) not returning bags to the car or b) not taking any because I'm definitely not buying anything and definitely not setting foot in tkmaxx......

Training class update. Gitdog performed his recalls beautifully. Aside from the small detail that he was recalling to whoever else in the room happened to be calling their dog at the time.:rotfl:

I am not doing well with the 5p charge so far, but it hasn't occurred to me to take it out on the assistants, all of whom have been entertained by my determination not to waste 5p and the subsequent balancing ballet between the till and the car (there are normally bags in the car............) :(
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

Can people please stop giving me abuse of this damn 5p bag charge??

I've spent 10p on plastic bags so far. Not at the supermarket where I always remember to bring the heavy duty plastic bags I've had for years with me, but in both cases at Waterstone's :o . I simply fail to make the "I need to bring a bag" connection when it's not the supermarket. The rules are quite complex though and for shops with less than 250 employees the scheme is optional, so after I bought one at Waterstone's on Piccadilly (splendid name for a road) on Saturday morning, I was then given one for free in Forbidden Planet on Shaftesbury Avenue an hour later.

I was cross at paying, but that was me being cross at myself for forgetting to bring something to carry my purchases, not at the person serving. I wouldn't complain about it to them as that's just rude, they can't do anything about it and it's my own fault!

    Feel better soon Pyxis!

I have four foldable bags that generally live in the bottom of my bag and coat pockets etc so I always have one to hand. With the new charge, hubby admitted that when he goes out for lunch at work he ends up with a plastic bag every day and asked if I could find him one that was "manly" as mine are various designs and I found these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Reusable-Folding-Shopping-Bag-Environmental-Travel-Grocery-Holiday-Tote-Handbag-/390994630332?var=&hash=item5b091896bc
£1.59 for a plain black or grey and he was quite happy with this and it is small enough to be shoved in a trouser pocket. He is now getting into the habit of picking up keys, wallet and squishy bag when he goes out. He has asked for a four so that he can leave one in the pocket of each of his coats so that when he goes out in the winter he will always have one with him (coz he doesn't carry a bag like girls as he put it), which I thought was quite good forward thing for him!

meant to say that while looking.... I also saw loads of really cute animal ones for those who are into animals - leetle fishes and owls and all different types of animal head that the bag gets stuffed into. Although I take the big strong plastic coated and hessian type bags when doing the food shop etc, I carry the wee stuffy ones for everything else - although in fairness I still use the stuffy ones for food shopping too as they seem to take so much.

The bag charge has been in Scotland and Wales for ages now and I don't remember such an uproar about it, but then it wouldn't have been covered in the media so much. I thought it was stupid at first but it's surprisingly easy to get used to and on the occasions I have forgotten I tend to buy another bag for life for 10p rather than paying 5p for the flimsy bag, which means I have a million bags for life. I usually keep one or two bags in my bag folded kondo style in case I go to the shop for chicken and come out with chicken and a bunch of other stuff. The only thing to watch out for is restaurants charging you for doggy bags and takeaway places charging you for a bag when delivering food which is annoying.

I am so tired today. Could barely drag myself out of bed and just wanted to lie there staring at the wall. I feel disinterested in everything. Hopefully I'm just mega tired and this will pass if my body would just let me have a good night's sleep. Which it isn't. I either lie awake for hours or fall asleep and wake up at 2, unable to get back to sleep until 6.30am. I think I may be nocturnal again. If only I didn't have set work hours I could get up and do my hours and then sleep.

Excuse me while I quietly throw things, I won't make too much of a mess. At 2.30am last night WaSp's phone rings and it's Milliefleur's number. He answers and it hangs up, tries to call back and no answer. Obviously we panic so WaSp gets in the car and drives 80 miles in the middle of the night. He arrives to find BIL passed out on the sofa with an empty bottle of whisky and Milliefleur fast asleep. On waking BIL it turns out that BIL called him to tell him that he is invited to Milliefleur's birthday party but because WaSp didn't answer the phone straight away (he was asleep!) BIL hung up and slept himself. Needless to say some not very pleasant words were exchanged!

Which brings me to Milliefleur's party. It is on the 14th in Yorkshire and we really cannot afford for both of us to go. If WaSp goes alone he can sleep in a family members spare bedroom whereas that would be out of the question for me and mean hotel fees. So I get to spend a weekend on my own. I actually feel relatively ok about it, if I live off sausages rolls and quiches or something so that I don't need to cook and I am super careful making hot drinks I should manage. WaSp does want to go because as he says this could be the last family party Milliefleur has and I agree. So expect lots of posts from me on the weekend of the 14th while I cling to you all and ask stupid questions like how do you boil a kettle and where did I put my teacup?! I haven't done a full long weekend alone for over 10 years, he may be gone for 3-4 days with the travel time too and depending if he is needed to bring Milliefleur home. He did go away for a couple of days last year and I was fine so really this will just be a little longer. (No one tell my fluffy bulldozer of a social worker, she will go mad and I would be in a hospital ward before I can blink).
